Choix Elite - Choix Pod Palette
I redeemed 500 points for this Choix member reward. Choix has an exclusive shop where members can add-on a variety of perks that can only be purchased with points. All of Choix’s palettes are magnetic and the sample tins fit perfectly without effort! When these older samples run out, I’m going to save the pans and repress some eyeshadows from a palette I dropped earlier this year. #facepalm
Choix Etc. Tools
Each month your box will come with a variety of tools to help with your makeup application. I’ve had sponges, brow and mascara wands, and even a super cute angled blush/contour brush.
On the back of your box lid, Choix lists the samples you picked out for the month. You can also view your Order History after logging into your account. I was very pleased with the amount of each foundation I had. It took the entire month to work through them, and I still have some left!
Liquid foundation samples used to come in a glass or plastic vial. This is an excellent improvement on Choix’s part. I struggled getting the most out of my foundations and felt I could never scrape the glass vials clean. These vials pump up and clean the sides of the vial! Problem solved! Great for traveling too! One of my vials wouldn’t start on it’s own, it was easily fixed by giving the bottom a gently kick start.
Hourglass Fluid Foundation in No. 8 - Walnut Full Size 1oz - Value: $60.00
All swatches will be at the bottom! I chuckled to myself when I saw my foundations. I couldn’t tell them apart except for the label! But I promise they are very different once applied. I’ve never tried Hourglass foundations and I liked this one a lot. It wore like second skin and the first coat was full coverage. I purposely grabbed the deepest shade even though it’s darker than me. My face and neck have always been 50 shades of brown, using 2 or 3 shades on different areas is just necessary. In the linked photo, I’m not wearing any makeup but lipstick and looking a hot mess! Next month, I’m definitely going up a shade or two so I can use them all together.
Kevyn Aucoin The Liquid Airbrush Foundation in LQ-14 Full Size .68oz - Value: $45.00
I’m having the worst luck with Kevyn Aucoin products. This foundation was so orange on my skin. It’s consistency is actually much thinner than the Hourglass formulation and I needed 2 coats for full coverage. Unfortunately, I ended up layering with heavier foundations to blend out the orange. So this one was a fail for me.
Cle de Peau - Beaute Extra Rich Lipstick in S306 Full Size - Value: $40.00
This lipstick was beautiful while it lasted! But it is a pain in my tailfeather to apply. As much as I enjoy trying new lipsticks, the sampling experience here is a fail. Application is the killjoy. I want to be able to sample Choix lipsticks the same way lip and eye pencils are sent. I don’t know if there is a way to repress lipsticks into minis or reposition them into lip balm tubes. I don’t know! But it’s just not fun like this. I did like this lipstick color and the formula. It’s not a matte, but didn’t leave my lips sticky either. I’d call it creamy. The color was amazing on me too, all swatches below, smack in the middle of red and plum and very pigmented. I’m so torn, I want to try more colors...but then I don’t. You know?!
Kevyn Aucoin -The Sensual Skin Enhancer in SX15 Full Size 18gm - Value: $48.00
You know that love/hate relationship I was talking about earlier with this brand. This is the love that keeps me coming back for more. Haha! I love these! I’m slowly collecting one in all colors...yes, every color! No matter how “off” a foundation may be, you can fix it with these. They are highly pigmented, creamy, and blend like butter. A little bit goes a long way, so work with the smallest amount and add more as you need. I was able to use this shade around the perimeter of my face and down my neck.
Guerlain - Rose Aux Joues Blush Duo in Red Hot Full Size $52.00
I believe this is the third or fourth blush I picked out from Choix. I really love the two colors combined. Both have a good amount of pigment too. I would say it was one of my favorites to try this month. I was surprised how well it wore through the day and it looked prettier on my face after I set my face. These blushes have the same fragrance as their Meteorites Pearls.
Left to Right:
Guerlain blush duo, KA Skin Enhancer, CDP lipstick, KA and Hourglass foundations
Verdict: It doesn’t feel like it, but I’ve been subscribed to Choix for six months now! I’m truly enjoying this subscription for several reasons: Sephora, Ulta and “insert every cool department store name” are nowhere near me. LOL, I don’t have the luxury of popping into these stores and taking a few free samples home to try. Choix saves me a ton of money because in the past, whenever I was able to go to Sephora etc, I’d spend too much money on purchases, that I either didn’t like, wasn’t right, or made me break out and then I’d never return it!! Just a waste! Earlier this month, John and I were across town celebrating our anniversary and I had to stop into Sephora for UD All Nighter setting spray...just ONE THING! Why did I leave with a bag full of minis from the checkout line? #whathadhappenedwas
