The Birchbox Limited Edition: The Charmed Life Box is the latest limited edition box from Birchbox for women.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Since this could be a great box to buy and use for several indidual gifts, I thought a picture of how everything is packaged would be useful:

Canvas Home Dauville Multiple Bud Vase Gold – Value $25

This has been the year of Canvas Home items in subscription boxes! I love the silver items I've received, but gold is my favorite, and I already have this vase on display!

birchbox-limited-edition-charmed-life-folded

Stephanie Johnson Folding Mirror - Value $20?

This appears to have been made exclusively for Birchbox, so I'm estimating the value. I love the color, and all the Stephanie Johnson items I've received from Birchbox so far are really nice quality. This mirror is no exception! Here it is open:

birchbox-limited-edition-charmed-life-candle

Illume Demi Vanity Tin + MatchboxScents will vary Value $14 total

I like the Thai Lily scent I recieved (and I appreciate the tin design too), but I would have preferred this box to feature a winter/holiday scented candle instead.

birchbox-limited-edition-charmed-life-frame

Isaac Jacobs Sunburst Picture Frame - Value $20?

This is another exclusive item, so I'm guessing on the value. It's probably my favorite item in the box. I love the platinum metal color, and the detail is great too:

birchbox-limited-edition-charmed-life-tocca

NUXE Huile Prodigieuse® – 10 ml Value $5.80

I've sampled this before, and it is a great dry oil. I think this is a perfect addition to this home-centric (no makeup) box. It should work well for just about everyone. (It's great for hair, nails, skin, etc.)

Tocca Crema da Mano in Cleopatra – Value $10

(Good to know for swaps - this product has an inner foil seal).

I like the Tocca hand cream formula, but this scent isn't for me. I'll be swapping or gifting it.

birchbox-limited-edition-charmed-life-ring

Umbra Geo T Ring Holder - Value $10

(I added my rings on there to give a sense of scale). I love gold decor so this ring holder works for me!

And as I always say, don’t forget your free mystery sample pack on orders of $35 or more! Here are the two samples I received:

birchbox-limited-edition-charmed-life-samples

Anyone else seem to be always getting Marcelle eyeliners as one of their mystery samples?

Verdict: I've been waiting for Birchbox to release a works-for-almost-everyone limited edition box this holiday season, and this is it! I will be grabbing quite a few more as gifts for the holidays. My favorite items are the decor pieces, but I think all the pieces included feel special, and I hope my gift-recipients feel the same way! (UPDATE: Based on my value estimates, this box has a value of about $105).

I bought this box when they had the free necklace with purchase deal. This box cost as much as the necklace I really wanted, so I thought of it as “buy a necklace, get a free box.” I figured I would swap or gift most of it, but it turns out that I love everything! It’s all so much nicer than in the picture and now I want to keep it all.

Is the gold part of the vase supposed to have kind of swirls or lines in it? I have to contact Birchbox about black marks on my vase (literally all over; I couldn’t just spin it around to hide them) and was wondering if I should also mention the irregularities in the glazed part.

Reply ButtonReply

Andrea

I think the gold part is supposed to be smooth (free of lines). But that being said, mine arrived with a big scratch right through the paint and a few black marks. I was able to wipe off most of the black marks with a wet towel. I contacted Birchbox about the scratch and missing items in my box and they sent out replacements right away. Unfortunately, those replacements were lost in transit. They have sent out another (I assume complete?) box, so we’ll see what I receive in the next few days!

Reply ButtonReply

Randi

No, the gold part should be all shiny – no swirls or lines. So I’d definitely tell them about it.
I had a couple small black marks on my vase and was able to mostly remove them with a damp microfiber cloth (norwex one). Probably won’t do you any good since you have lines on the gold part, but thought I’d mention bc i know others have said they have black marks.
I ordered a second box for a present for my son’s teacher so I’m hoping my items arrive in good shape. And hoping she likes it 🙂

Is anyone else missing items??? I got mine today, and not only did my vase have a big scratch in the metallic paint, but I was missing the Nuxe oil and the matchbox. I was super excited about this box and when it was all said and done, I’m kinda bummed.

OK. I haven’t ordered the box yet, and the information about the broken damaged items concerns me. But I was really interested in the comments about the different resolutions. I take escalated customer service calls for another company that has nothing to do with subscription boxes. And I thought I would throw my two cents in. I can tell you that I, and my coworkers, have HUGE latitude in what we can do for customers. It isn’t always cut and dry. If it is a good company they will give their employees guidelines but let them have some leeway to address the actual situation. I would make a couple of suggestions. It goes without saying that being friendly and nice will make them want to help you more. (customer service reps are only human after all 🙂 If the company is anything like mine, they are required to negotiate. For example 1. “I am so sorry, I would love to send you some coupons off your next purchase.” If you refuse than: 2. “I would be able to offer a refund of $x.00 . Finally, “I would be happy to send you a new box.” If you don’t like their solution: suggest another one. Inform them that if they don’t resolve the situation to your satisfaction then you will cancel your subscription. If they state that they cannot offer the solution that you are requesting ask to speak to a supervisor. If you are unable to get the rep to give you a good resolution – call back. You really might get someone else who will do what you want.

Heidi

All of these are excellent suggestions. However, Birchbox doesn’t take “calls” anymore. Resolution is offered only through online chat or email. It’s a very frustrating experience. hey go back to offering the excellent c.s. experience they’ve become known for.

Hi Tamara,
Yes, when i emailed them They told me they were out of stock on the mirror so they would credit my account birchbox points. I even sent them a picture of the broken mirror. I’m confused on how others are getting a replacement. I checked my account and the points are on there but it’s not like i can do anything with them till i get more points saved.

Misha

I’m so bummed that the mystery sample packs are out of stock. I finally saved up enough points so I could finally buy a box I had my eye on and would only have to spend a little bit out of pocket and now it’s gone. 🙁 Does anyone think they’ll come back in stock?

Hallie

I got the box for the vase, and I love the whole thing! I got the same shampoo but with a blue headband for my mystery sample. Usually I get tea with a chocolate pretzel stick and I was so looking forward to that sample. But I do love the headband.

Reply ButtonReply

Tamara

Omg, I got the exact same mystery pack! Even the same color liner!

It’s very disheartening to read about all the problems with not only broken items but inconsistent customer service! Their great CS was always one of their big selling points, imo. Yikes.

Fortunately for me, everything in my box arrived safely. And I love it!! My favorite item is the vase. LOVE!! 😀 The only thing I put up for swap is the ring holder. I feel like my rings would just slip off.

Did anyone have to sign for their box on this one? I’ve never had to sign for Birchbox before, never reported anything missing. I was just notified UPS will be trying me again on Monday because it requires a signature!

I took Liz’s advice & ordered this for my friends. May even order more for ladies in my husband’s office. Need y’all’s help though in how to present the contents. Should I take everything out of their packages & put in the paper shreds to display when they open? Any advice? Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

JoyW

P.S. Would y’all leave the card inside or not?

Reply ButtonReply

adwryter

Just my two cents, I would take everything out of the package and add some additional shredded paper for protection and to make opening more fun (and a little messier, unfortunately). I would also definitely leave the card in so they can learn a bit about each item and the reasons the items were chosen.

Marcy

Yikes, so sad to hear about all the quality issues some customers had. My box arrived today after reading all the comments, was a bit hesitant to open it. Fortunately everything arrived safe n sound and Christmas for my gals is saved =) Best of luck, ladies…

I love this box! I got it for $14 after points so I love it even more. I thought I was gifting most of it, but that’s not happening. I already have the vase and frame on display.

My extras were Vasanti Brighten Up and a Marcelle eyeliner in Indigo.

Julia

I can’t wait to receive my box today. I used points so it was about 17 dollars. Can’t wait!

It’s so crappy that so many people have received broken items… especially for a box meant to be gifted. Birchbox should be putting a lot of effort into these gift boxes because if they’re done right it could mean lots of new customers. However, if all of the gift recipients receive broken items it’s going to make Birchbox look super undesirable. I bought this for a gift for my aunt’s birthday on Thanksgiving. I’m having it shipped directly to my family’s house and I sure hope that everything arrives in one piece. I wonder what happened with Birchbox’s packaging? My guess is they’re using a new facility for cost savings.

I am so happy I got this box! I will be getting a new vanity for Christmas & all of this stuff will look gorgeous on it. My favorite item is the mirror. It is so gorgeous & perfect for travel. The candle smells amazing & is gorgeous too. I’ve already used a few matches (why are matches so much fun?? lol).

It all feels really quality. One of the best limited edition boxes yet!

Reply ButtonReply

Tamara

“why are matches so much fun?”

Because they’re wooden. Wood matches are the best! 😀

Either than are you’re a pyromaniac. 😉

Weird.. people are commenting a lot lately about the inequities in customer service when items are missing or damaged items are received.. one person gets a small credit, another gets a replacement of the one item shipped out, yet another gets a complete replacement of the box and all contents while keeping the first one and yet another person is actually told to pack up and return the box they received with missing items! This is wacky and it’s bothering me to hear it over and over and be on the receiving end of it over and over, lots of missing and broken items lately. I feel like getting the short end of the stick compared to others who are getting complete new boxes shipped out for free while I get a measly credit and the box is still available for sale so obviously they have them. This haphazard customer service is going to lose them some customers, I think.. for me, the bloom is off the rose with all the issues I keep having. This box is also a little weird for me.. dupe handcream, a frame that looks like metal but isn’t (some kind of formed resin, maybe?) though quite pretty, the candle is smashed and dented, the vase was lose in the box and has black marks on the bottom and the pretty LE box itself has a smashed corner. I like these items but I don’t see a huge value in this box and the willy-nilly customer service has me irked.. I may have to send them an email complete with photos of what I received since chatting with a rep only got me a few points and a “oh too bad.” On top of the Cynthia Rowley bag missing from most of the Luxe LE boxes, I don’t know what to think. I know, I’m cranky about it, been another bad week in a long, bad month for me. This isn’t helping. And it was supposed to, darn it all.

I’m another one that had a torn / smashed presentation box and a smashed up item (the picture frame itself and the glass inside it). I contacted them on Tuesday. By Thursday I had a full replacement box in my lap and I was allowed to keep the original box as well.

I did send large, very detailed photos and macros of the damage with my complaint instead of just “writing” them about the damage – so it was hard to ignore the state in which I received my items. But still! If I got full replacement, everyone else should have as well. I only asked for a replacement on the presentation box and frame.

I will say that my replacement box was packed MUCH more carefully than the original! My vase was free-floating in the first one, just protected by crinkle paper shreds. I’m amazed it made it ok since the frame was in a cardboard box and did not. In the replacement box, the vase was packed inside of a cardboard box. There was much less room for movement inside the presentation box for all of the other items with the addition of that cardboard box for the vase. They also sealed two sides with strapping tape. It was secure, but I had to remove it with surgical precision to not shred the pretty gift box and look inside.

I usually have good luck when I request that this be dealt with by a supervisor.

Reply ButtonReply

Not, Josie

I can really second and third this. Everyone in my house(roommates)have birchbox and we often get the same/boxes. If we have missing or broken items and email a complaint. Each one of us gets a dramatically different resolution to our problem or query. It doesn’t seem fair or a very good business practice. Otherwise, Birchbox is heads better than Pop Sugar, who ignores my request all the time. Which is why I cancelled.

I’ve had so many problems with their customer service. Last time there was something wrong with their system where they were doubling the cost of everything I put in my account, they just dismissed me and I had to fight with them to get anything done about it. I also had an issue with an order I did where I ordered a 2 pack of the Yes to Carrots lip butters, but they only sent me one. When I contacted them they said they had an issue with stocking them so only sent me one, no explanation or anything. Since I complained about it they decided to give me 50 Birchbox points, which I told them didn’t do a thing since I can’t use just 50 points on their own and would have to buy more stuff to use them. I told them that solution was unacceptable, especially since they intentionally sent out only 1 with no intention of letting me know until I complained. Then they finally refunded the item. I feel like I am constantly fighting with them about orders.

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

As far as the inconsistent replacement goes, I agree.

I’ve had an entire LE box replaced when only 1 item was broken… All the free duplicates added up to like another $100 value! I’ve had a few monthly boxes replaced when creams exploded everywhere & ruined everything. Ive even been sent a free Cynthia Rowley eyeshadow palette before when a related coupon came out a few days after making a Cynthia Rowley purchase.

However the last monthly curated box I received, my Clinique lippy didn’t come with a cap & had been kinda squished – I emailed them & they said they’d send out a replacement. 2 weeks go by & I hadn’t received anything so I emailed them again. They said they didn’t have any left & gave me a 100point credit. I wanted my damn lippy which is why I chose the curated box to begin with!! I also just realized I never got the free beauty blender I used a coupon for last month!

I’ve had customer service reps respond with short, blunt replies and other times in detailed, kind-hearted messages. Very inconsistent.

I always send them pictures of my boxes & broken items too, so I know they know I’m not some person who tries to fake shipping problems to get free stuff.

Reply ButtonReply

Elise

I totally agree with everything that you’re saying. I had issues with my luxe list box and they ended up replacing the whole box but then I’m hearing of others that got a $20 credit or just got the one item replace. I’m not really understanding the huge discrepancies in fixing issues. It seems to me there should be a standard protocol for what they do in certain situations. I also got $10 in Birchbox points for the inconvenience… However that might have been because my last three orders have been messed up?!?

Reply ButtonReply

Lisa

This box makes me think of a grab bag from a discount store. I didn’t even consider getting this once I saw it.

Reply ButtonReply

Tamara

Seriously?

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

These pictures don’t do the items justice. The candle is really heavy & has a chic design. The ring holder also has a bit of weight to it. Picture frames in general are not my favorite thing, but the texture on this one makes it feel more luxe. The mirror is the best part (imo) & goes perfectly with that button up tray that was in a LE box a little while ago. And the vase looks a lot better in person & feels very quality.

I added a free men’s mystery pack to mine since the women’s were out of stock. So excited for this box!

Reply ButtonReply

Rena

I regret not getting the men’s pack. Seriously how many eyeliners do they have? At least the mens pack will send Davines products.

April

My vase did not come in a box. It was tucked in all of the packing material and it had black marks on it. My frame glass was cracked. I am still waiting for a response.

Reply ButtonReply

Randi

My vase didn’t come in a box either – just wrapped in bubble wrap which was fine since it didn’t break. But I also had a couple black marks on mine… hopefully they come off easy with a little water? or does anyone else have any tips on getting marks off of the white matte part of the vase?

Reply ButtonReply

robyn

I was able to remove light marks on mine with a brand new pencil eraser – very gentle with very little pressure. I used a new one to make sure there was no risk of transferring something else on there.

April

I got in contact with someone via live chat and they are sending a replacement box but I have to mail the other one back. All I really wanted was a replacement frame.

Chelsea

I received mine yesterday and the glass on the picture frame and the mirror are both broken! I’ve emailed them and hope they can do something. I’m so disappointed since these were for Christmas gifts.

Reply ButtonReply

Tierney

My mirror was also broken. Once they finally responded to my e-mail about it, they said they’d send a replacement and would send a separate e-mail with shipping detail. I still haven’t received the shipping e-mail, though, and I’m not sure how long I should wait before reaching out again.

This is going to be bought with my BF discount which they will hopefully have!

I never get those liners and now I want to try one! I always ALWAYS get the tocca hand Cream in various scents in my mystery samples. Last time with the POP pigment pot and this time with a cynthia Rowley lip stain in red.

Oh, my, I have like 20 of those liners now. Most in the same color you’re showing above. Maybe a few in a darker blue.

I’m not one to buy every limited edition box Birchbox puts out, but I HAD to have this one. I had it sent to my office and immediately placed most of the items on my desk. The few things I didn’t use will be great gifts. I thought the price point was completely reasonable for this box as well.

ha! I’m probably going to do the same thing! The frame and bud vase are perfect for the desk:)

I am so excited about this box! I ordered one for all the ladies who work for our office! I can’t wait to gift them at the Holiday Luncheon!
