The Churchill

(This is a re-release. Check out my review of The Churchill box to see what you can expect).

These aren’t any old cigars – they’re limited-edition blends from the godfather of top shelf smokes himself, Ernesto Perez-Carillo Jr. He’s a third-generation maker from Cuba with 40+ years of experience under his belt, and makes some of the best cigars around. Complement them with the ashtray made from historic reclaimed wood from Europe, and an alluring candle to freshen up the air once you’re done.

Launching December 1.

The Standard Issue

It’s inspired by vintage military shoulder packs, with a heavy, densely-woven canvas body and an even tougher cordura nylon base. There’s plenty of room for a long weekend’s worth of necessities, plus a few small goods in the easily-accessible outer zip pocket

Launching December 1.

(This is a re-release. Check out my review of The Refresh box to see what you can expect).

Your dopp kit — and the grooming gear you pack inside — should be just as sharp as the rest of your life. Combine ‘em, and your morning will have a stylish breath of fresh air. You’ll look clean, polished, and put-together both at home and when it’s time to hit the road.

Launching December 1.

The flame chars the white oak plank (that’s the same stuff bourbon is aged in), which will give off a few wisps of aroma-filled smoke. Capture that in the jar, pour in a cocktail, cap and shake, and let the smoke lend a unique woodsy note to the boozy flavors. Then just pour, serve, and soak up the awestruck admiration of your drinking buddies

Launching December 1.

  1. I was wondering if you knew if purchasing Gift cards on Black Friday were considered “purchase of $45 or more (including subscriptions and/or shop purchases) will include a free Black Box.” I haven’t subscribed to BeSpoke before and want to get one or two subscriptions for friends this xmas.

  2. I am on a 3 month plan and I think I want that Refresh for my son. Seems like a lot of nice samples plus a really good bag.

  3. Considering getting the Churchill for my older brother. I know he enjoys the occasional cigar and this would be something other than any cross fit/strength training/personal training stuff I could get him. Since he’s a physique body builder, he probably has enough of that anyway!

Or I’ll just get him another Bespoke gift card and he can pick whatever he wants.

  4. No issues here with your Churchill recommendation; I can think of 3 guys (and a girl) on my list who’d be over the moon if I gifted that to them. You do you babe!
Meanwhile I’ll continue to avoid sunscreen, drink 2 glasses of wine per day, shower every other day, consume bacon, and still have the most amount of accrued sick-time among all my coworkers.

    • It sure was nice to read this humanizing you-do-you bit atop all the piety. Hey fellow ex-smokers out there: rock on, ladies! Way to do what you can, when you can.

  5. The Churchill box looks perfect for one of my friends, I wasn’t sure what to get him, he’ll love this!

Liz, I love when you make box recommendations, subscription boxes really do make the best gifts.

  6. With my three month subscription I got Roast and Butcher, and I’m going to skip December. I’m still hoping they will bring back the shoe polishing box!

  7. Kind of funny that Liz’s reviews often mention if items are paraben-free, etc, and then there’s an endorsement for cancer-causing tobacco. Not what I expected to see here, and certainly the last thing I’d ever give as a gift.

    • Good point. I’d sooner slather my face with parabens than enable someone’s smoking habit. Even if it’s not a habit but a once-in-a-while thing, nope.

    • Are you serious? Liz is including the information about all of the boxes that will be available from Bespoke. When she lists the ingredients for things that contain parabens, etc it is helpful for those that avoid certain ingredients. I don’t think anyone is confused about whether or not cigars contain tobacco… Or whether Club W wine contains alcohol, etc. I wouldn’t personally buy the cigar box, but I’m glad Liz doesn’t censor her posts to exclude box offerings like that.

      • Oh hey, I definitely do not think Liz should be censoring her posts by leaving out the cigar box. That would be weird.

        • I was replying to the other comment… Not sure how it ended up under yours 🙂

      • Well said Amy!

      • There’s a difference between simply showing what box options are available and adding an endorsement like:

‘I can vouch for Churchill being a great gift.’

People are free to make whatever decisions they like about smoking, but I do find it off-putting to see a personal recommendation to gift something that is proven to be lethal.

        • I’m sorry about that. We gifted this to our cigar-enthusiast friend two years ago as a Christmas gift and he loved it and was really impressed with the quality. Since I consider him an expert on cigars, I thought I’d share that info. I’ll remove that part from this post to be safe, though. Sorry for any confusion or poor word choice on my part.

          • Liz, I appreciate your thoughtfulness in gifting this to someone who knows and cares about the product, and for soliciting their opinion. As someone who doesn’t smoke but has a dear friend for whom this may be a great gift, I appreciate the recommendation. You needen’t appologize for this to a single critic who identifies herself as “…”, yet, as always, you graciously accommodate to the feedback of even one of your followers. This is far from the only vice we love to give and receive (alcohol, sweets, rich foods, etc) which are so special because we enjoy them in moderation. I appreciate your recommendation so much because it is usually the person who is so different from us that we find so hard to shop for.

          • Liz, I appreciate that – thank you!

And for the other comments: moderate regular use of alcohol won’t kill you. Moderate regular consumption of sugar won’t kill you. Moderate regular use of cigarettes WILL kill you. I wouldn’t give any gift that I knew fed into someone’s particular vice if I knew it was harming them.

    • Parabens are in almost all cosmetics. They are safe preservatives that have been around for a very long time. The research that led people to start avoiding parabens hasn’t shown a link between cancer and parabens- just that they found parabens in tumors. There are also parabens in healthy cells. Most of the preservatives parabens are replaced with have not been used long enough to know whether or not they are as effective or problem free. Yet, Liz chooses to avoid Parabens. Tobacco has been beyond a shadow of a doubt been proven to cause cancer. Yet, Liz is ok with gifting tobacco products. The moral here? This is one person giving their opinion of what they would buy- trust her on what she knows best- subscription boxes- and do research on the things within in them to see what you want to use for yourself.

    • I don’t blame MSA for posting about an upcoming box, but I was rather shocked to see cigars in an upcoming box and it certainly lowers my opinion of Bespoke. Liquor, rich foods, etc are safe in moderation but even a once in a while tobacco habit can kill. I’ve had many close family members die because of their smoking habit and it’s rather upsetting seeing a sub box offer this.

  8. On December 1, I plan to purchase some of the older boxes they still have available to use for holiday gifts. Packing and shipping = done!

  9. So we won’t be able to order the new boxes on Black Friday? Torch is the only one I want and getting a bonus box with it would be sweet

  10. I was so looking forward to seeing a BF deal from Bespoke. Totally disappointed.

  11. I think it’s because I’m on mobile but what is the black box??? It just sends me to the homepage when I click it.

    • Never mind! Finally figured it out!

  12. So far on our three month special sub deal we got the coffee kit and the copper kit and love them both! Gonna skip this month though.

  13. Looks like another skip for me.
