MSA Kloverbox The Beach House Box Reveal + Giveaway

MSA-kloverbox-

This summer, I got to work with Kelly from Kloverbox to put together a one-time-purchase limited edition box inspired by the beach house. We wanted to focus on a mix of beauty products and a few lifestyle/home items as well.

Admittedly, this reveal post is way overdue! When the boxes first shipped there were some shipping and product issues that prevented everyone from getting their boxes at the same time, and I wanted to wait until everyone had their issues resolved before posting a reveal post. (Then I ended up moving, this box was in storage for a while, and then here we are in October!)

FYI - this box is no longer available.

MSA-kloverbox-items

The Box: Limited Edition Beach House Box by My Subscription Addiction + Kloverbox

The Cost: $100

The Products: Beauty, home and lifestyle items inspired by a beach house vacation

MSA-kloverbox-card

MSA-kloverbox-info

The box included a fold out card detailing the items included.

MSA-kloverbox-scrub

One Love Organics Vitamin C Body Polish - Value $48

If you read this blog frequently, you may already know that I LOVE One Love Organics! I think they make the best smelling scents ever - and of course, their products work great too. (And they use natural and organic ingredients!)

This scrub is such an indulgent treat - it smells like a delicious tropical cocktail drink, and I think the formula has the perfect amount of moisture.

MSA-kloverbox-soap

Hand in Hand Sea Salt Hand Soap - Value $18

Another scent that I love! This sea salt liquid soap has a refreshing (almost minty) scent, and I love a hand soap bottle with pretty packaging - it will be on display next to your sink after all!

MSA-kloverbox-pump

Plus one thing I really like about Hand in Hand: For every product purchased, they donate one bar of soap and one month of clean water to save a child's life.

MSA-kloverbox-tote

Thursday Friday Gold Toe Tote - Retail Value $110

(This was sent in three different beachy color options).

We knew we wanted a beach tote for this box, and after looking at lots of options, this Thursday Friday tote was the winner. We wanted something that was easy to actually take to the beach (this tote is is made from cotton canvas on the outside with nylon lining on the inside), but could also work as a purse/tote when on vacation.

And it has all the zippers, pockets, and key ring you would want in an actual purse too:

MSA-kloverbox-lining

One thing to note - while Kelly and I were sourcing items, we were also keeping a running tally of the value, and we wanted to deliver a good value compared to the cost. So for those purposes, since Thursday Friday products are often offered at a discount, we didn’t count it as a $110 retail value.

MSA-kloverbox-tatcha

Tatcha Enriching Renewal Cream - Travel Size (12 ml) - Value $39

Tatcha is another brand I'm obsessed with, and we worked with them to get a travel-sized super luxe skincare item for this box. This moisture cream sample is large enough to last a for a full week's vacation, and this is one of those samples I use a q-tip for to get every last drop - it is that good!

MSA-kloverbox-spf

Goldfaden MD Sun Visor - Value $45

We knew we wanted an SPF product for this box, and this mist is such a unique sunscreen, so it was an easy choice! The Goldfaden MD Sun Visor is a mist spray that dries clear so you can apply it over makeup throughout the day for SPF touch-ups without ruining your makeup. (And it works directly on your skin without makeup too).

MSA-kloverbox-pillow

Olio Studio Aqua Stripe Pillow - Value $50

This pillow was made by Olio Studio exclusively for this box. We wanted to get a pillow that had a simple/classic design that could work with lots of different decor styles while still being reminiscent of the beach. The flip side of the pillow is completely blue too for a less nautical look:

MSA-kloverbox-pillow-back

I was about to write a verdict for this post, but then remembered I picked out every item in the box, so that doesn't really apply here! I'd love to know what you thought about the box, though! (My apologies again for the shipping issues).

When I was originally planning this reveal post, I wanted to do a giveaway of the box as well. As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, we had shipping and product issues, so we couldn't keep an extra box as originally planned for a giveaway.

Instead, I'll do a giveaway for another ingredient-conscious subscription company. One lucky reader will win a $250 Honest Company Gift card!

Enter the giveaway below and good luck! (Winner will be contacted by email – make sure to enter with an email account you check frequently).

(FYI – if you do the refer-a-friend entry option in this giveaway, you’ll get the entries for that once the friend has entered the giveaway).

a Rafflecopter giveaway

I was so excited about this box that I bought 2! I loved them both. I have the matching pillows on my porch swing and the bags came in green & blue. I was very, very pleased. Thank you so much for curating this for us!!

I definitely be interested in a MSA box from somewhere! But I’d like to see Liz plus several of the reviewers curating- Lindsey with a kitchen item, etc. Even Eric could drop in a nerd item! It would be a totally cool mix!

Hi Liz!!! I was so nicely surprised when I saw you had decided to review the Beach House Box!! I thought after all the negative feedback it took ;( that maybe you were like – ugh do I really want to open this door? Lol but you pulled a class act and surprised us when I least expected it 😉 I loved the box! It was just what I expected from a Beach box – a box of unknown surprise items that I didn’t have to pick out or think about 😉 thank you! I actually decided to stop reading the comments part of anything you post just because of all the negative comments it just ruins the whole point of why I subscribe to my boxes and the world is already negative enough as it is!! Everytime I have reached out to Kloverbox, Glossybox,MSA, Candy Club AND Popsugar I have always received a response in less than 24 hours!! They have never ever been rude or promblemmatic 😉 in fact Popsugar went above and beyond as far as I’m concerned when I wrote them to thank them for their awesome service they wrote me back the nicest letter and sent me a personnel note along with some special items to thank me for being awesome to them!!!! So you will never see negative from me Liz only positive uplifting comments to make the world a more positive place!!!! Thank you for your site it has brought a lot of joy to my life!! Sincerely Corrine

Awesome comment – its so nice to see positive comments. One of the things I love about this site and Liz is that they’re very tactful with their reviews… just saying something isn’t their taste, or that it’d make a great gift if its not their particular style. There’s been some not so great boxes, and they were honest about it, but in a classy way.

Nice to see the reveal post!

I’m still using some of the products in the box. I love the hand soap – so much that I might even cough up the full price to buy another bottle when it’s out – it’s a great scent. I used the tote for work all summer – it’s a nice size to hold a laptop and looked more stylish than a backpack or briefcase. I didn’t think I’d have any use for the pillow but it turns out to be the exact shade of aqua as one of the accent colors on my bed linens so that turned out to be a nice addition!

I’d definitely get another Liz-curated box although I’d prefer a lower price-point. $100 is tricky because everything gets compared to the PopSugar LE boxes and now Rachel Zoe – tough acts to follow.

I loved the Beach box! My tote is a mint green and it’s beautiful. I used it all summer for my go to work and everywhere else purse. I loved the scrub to the very end. It was my favorite. But the item I thought I would never use is the best yet. The pillow! It doesn’t go with any of the beautiful large pillows on my new sofa but it fits just perfect in the small of my back and feels great as I recline and watch TV. So it will stay and the heck with it not matching! If you do another box, I will buy it!

This is a beautifully cultivated box, Liz! I would love to see more boxes that were created by your hand. While I’m not a beach person, my mom is, and I know she would have adored everything in this box. Even I would have been in love with some of the items (that pillow!). I hope you’ll cultivate more boxes in the future, I’m sorry I missed out on this one.

This box was lackluster for me, but I do think it was well curated, just not to my taste. I loved the MSA Quarterly boxes though and I look forward to your next collaboration!

I loved this box.
Hand soap – put it in my guest bathroom so I wouldn’t use it up too quickly, love the scent.
Tote – used it as my hospital bag when I had my baby this summer!
Tatcha – seemed to lesson the appearance of a scar I have.
Sunscreen – not my favorite item because it’s kind of greasy, but it’s usable.
Scrub – probably my favorite item because it seems heavenly and feels luxurious.
Pillow – the only item I didn’t keep, just felt like clutter (to be fair, I am a minimalist and have a total of two accent pillows, period)

I am still enjoying use of the scrub, soap, and Tatcha (since I only use it a dab at a time)…

I might be in the minority here, but I’m really glad this box didn’t contain jewelry – I think my taste is very similar to Liz’s except when it comes to jewelry.

I’d totally buy another Liz box.

This box didn’t blow me away, but it did teach me that if I was going to spend $100, to pick out the items myself. I generally like your taste, but I don’t like pastels, and especially blue, so the pillow & tote were both busts for me & the rest of the items were nice enough, but nothing amazing. I think I had overblown expectations.

Reply ButtonReply

Ake

I have to agree with you. I think this box had good value, but I’m not a big shopper and I realized that $100 is more than I am comfortable paying for surprises.

That being said, I got some unsolicited compliments on the tote when I took it the beach this summer. I really like it! And the sunscreen is amazingly non-greasy. I wasn’t blown away by the hand soap, but whenever my sister comes over and uses it, she sits around after sniffing her hands. He, he!

I love this box but it’s kinda offensive to those of us who paid $100 for you to list the “value” of the bag as $35…it’s not a $35 bag, I know, I have carried many many bags an this one is so beautiful!!! Sure, Thursday Friday has sales and has completely liquidated their stock to replace with somewhat phonographic bags…but that doesn’t diminish the fact that a lot of people went to the website and paid $110 for it…I’m just sayin’ just so y’all know. I really liked the bag! BTW…what’s with the new bags they replaced these with…ewww! I have a small child, I will NOT be seen with THAT!!!

Liz Cadman

Hi Mandy,

So sorry – I did not mean to be offensive, and I’m going to update the post to better reflect what I meant by that value estimate. Basically, I wanted to get across that while Kelly and I were sourcing items, we were also keeping a running tally of the value, and we wanted to deliver a good value compared to the cost. So for those purposes, since Thursday Friday products are often offered at a discount, we didn’t count it as a $110 retail value. Hope that makes sense!

Mandy

Thank you so much!!! I didn’t mean to be so harsh but I was getting swap offers and in the comments saying that it was only worth $35 so why am I not swapping for samples and weird things like that. It’s interesting how some people want to swap for RV for their products but not when they want something…LOL! Silly!!! 😉 Did you see the bags they replaced these with? OMG! Talk about different!!! LOL!!! Not my taste!!!

Liz, you must have been reading my mind today! I thought a lot about this box today as I was putting the pillow on my bed this morning and when I was washing my hands with the lovely soap. I thought to myself it is too bad Liz never did a post on this box because I would love a chance to gush over all the contents. Then this evening I was checking out the website and here was the reveal post! YAY! I loved all the products.
The sunscreen was fabulous this summer for all of the time I spent outdoors.

I love the tote and I get tons of compliments whenever I use it out and about.

The scrub was fabulous and I loved the scent.

The pillow was probably my favorite item. It was something I had never received in a subscription box and it matches perfect with my bedding.

The soap is lovely. I feel like I am using it constantly and my bottle is still about 3/4 full.

TATCHA!!!! Need I say more 🙂

Thank you for all of your hard work to put together a fabulous box! I hope a winter box is in the works 🙂

I thought your curation was very you, Liz. I enjoyed the tote for much of the summer and the rest of the items were very functional. For me, there was no “wow” item in the box, I wasn’t blown away, but everything was very usable. My one issue was addressed with Kelly slightly, but I chose to drop it because it was just the one item. I was just surprised to see a chemical sunscreen in the box considering it was advertised as an “all natural” box. Anyway, I passed off the sunscreen to someone who enjoyed it, but everything else was used and enjoyed by me. Maybe next time some delicate gold jewelry like you’re always talking about… 🙂

I can say that I used, and enjoyed, everything in the box. In fact, I was vacationing in Florida last week and the tote became my go to beach and pool bag! I would absolutely purchase another special box!

Yay – glad to hear the tote got to go on vacation with you! 🙂

Yeah, I feel I missed out too! This was pre-MSA for me as well, but I love all the items in this box ?

I really enjoyed this box. The scrub was such a pineapply heavenly scent, the highlight of the box for me. Made my shower smell like a fresh drink on the beach. I loooooove tatcha. And i used the spray sun screen every day in the summer. The box suit me well. Thank you!

Love this one too Liz – wish I had discovered MSA sooner so I could have ordered it!
Hope you can do another box sometime soon!

I liked this box, the items I actually received. My box was beat up pretty good and arrived much later than promised. I never got so much as a return email after sending pictures and no offer of replacement for the missing Tacha and broken pump for the soap.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Hi Yvonne,

I’m so sorry about this. I thought all outstanding issues were taken care of by Kloverbox. Emailing you now to resolve this. Sorry again.

Yvonne

Thank you Liz, your response was above and beyond and totally appreciated.

This box was not for me (but then again, I haven’t bought a $100 box and I can’t see myself doing it), but I thought this box was very much you, Liz. All it needed was some delicate gold jewelry 🙂

I did end up getting a couple of the tote bags when they were on sale at ideel. Unfortunately, the one I actually used broke fairly quickly – the clasp came out.

Reply ButtonReply

Meghan

Same issue with the tote!! I used my tote twice and the clasp broke on the second use. Wasn’t sure who to contact or what to do, so I haven’t done anything about it. But I’m bummed since I loved the tote the 2 times I used it! I had the blue color and it was beautiful and great for work.

I bought this box right away because I thought your Quarterly boxes were amazing. I’ll be honest, though, I didn’t love this box. The pillow and tote were not to my style and they’ve just been sitting in my room for months now unused. I do understand, of course, that it’s a surprise box so I’m not guaranteed to like everything :). That’s fine, I’m not upset about those items, just my personal opinion. I did read the comments section for this box when all the problems were coming up and I will say that I likely will not buy anything Kloverbox related in the future because one, I did not think the box had good value (the items were fine but not worth $100 imo) and two, because I think their customer service was lacking.

HOWEVER. With all that said, I do think your curation is always considerate and thought out and I still believe in you MSA! Haha so I still look forward to your future collaborations and (as long as it’s not with Kloverbox) will likely buy whatever you have to offer ?
