Honor Girl by Maggie Thrash - Retail Value $19.99 (On Amazon for $15.74)
I like that this box sends hardcover books as well as graphic novels!
Here is the summary from Amazon:
All-girl camp. First love. First heartbreak. At once romantic and devastating, brutally honest and full of humor, this graphic-novel memoir is a debut of the rarest sort.
Maggie Thrash has spent basically every summer of her fifteen-year-old life at the one-hundred-year-old Camp Bellflower for Girls, set deep in the heart of Appalachia. She’s from Atlanta, she’s never kissed a guy, she’s into Backstreet Boys in a really deep way, and her long summer days are full of a pleasant, peaceful nothing . . . until one confounding moment. A split-second of innocent physical contact pulls Maggie into a gut-twisting love for an older, wiser, and most surprising of all (at least to Maggie), female counselor named Erin. But Camp Bellflower is an impossible place for a girl to fall in love with another girl, and Maggie’s savant-like proficiency at the camp’s rifle range is the only thing keeping her heart from exploding. When it seems as if Erin maybe feels the same way about Maggie, it’s too much for both Maggie and Camp Bellflower to handle, let alone to understand.
Plutona No. 1 by Jeff Lemire, Emi Lenox, Jordie Bellaire - Value $2.99
Summary from Amazon:
A brand new heartfelt super-hero series by JEFF LEMIRE (DESCENDER, Hawkeye) and amazing newcomer EMI LENOX! PLUTONA follows the story of five suburban kids who make a shocking discovery while exploring the woods one day after school...the body of Plutona, the world's greatest superhero. A dark and heartbreaking journey about friendship and coming of age all through the lens of the superhero genre.
The Lumberjanes Issue #18 - Value $3.99
Summary:
When April meets two mermaids who used to be friends but are now stuck in a crazy rivalry, she decides to put her friendship repairing skills to the test!
This box also included a paper Camplandfall pennant, a patch that says "I want S'more Comics," a Caramel Apple Pop and a pencil!
Copper & Kraft Toasted Marshmallow Candle Tin - Value $4.95
This smells even better than I was expecting! Perfect for a camp theme! (Now I want to try more candles from this brand - they have scents like Brownie Batter and Glazed Donut!)
Verdict: I think this is such a wonderfully curated box! The value is a little harder to determine since there are some items made just for subscribers, but using the Amazon sale price of Honor Girl, this box has a value of about $30-$35 depending on how you value the patch, pennant, and pencil.
I also love that this box focuses on sending graphic novels featuring female lead characters! I'm really happy a subscription like this exists in the comic book subscription genre, and I'm excited to see what they put in future boxes.
