3.3 overall rating

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. They tend to feature drugstore brands, and usually the product sizes are deluxe or sample size. (Sometimes they still send out the dreaded foil packets though).

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Harvey Prince Sincerely Roller Ball - Value $21

I'm pretty impressed that this item alone is worth more than the cost of the box! This scent isn't for me, but I know Harvey Prince is a popular brand in subscription boxes, so I'll probably swap or gift this.

Bellapierre Shimmer Powder in Snowflake - FULL SIZE! Value $15

I've sampled Bellapierre before thanks to subscription boxes, and I like their formulas. This powder is very fine, so it gives a subtle shimmer - no over-the-top sparkles!

Beautiful Nutrition Lemon Rinse Gentle Clarifying Treatment - 2 oz? Value $1.50

This product is designed to help remove dulling product buildup and enhance shine. It's free of parabens, phthalates, synthetic colors or fragrances, and it is color safe too. (Plus it smells like lemons!) I'm excited to try this.

Be a Bombshell Eye Crayon in Amazon - FULL SIZE! Value $16

(Subscribers will receive a variety of colors). I'm not the biggest fan of Be a Bombshell cosmetics (partly because they were in way too many subscription boxes last year), but if you're looking for an emerald eye crayon, this one has a good amount of pigment. (Swatched below).

Elizabeth Mott Tints & Sass Lip + Cheek Stain - 3 g Value $7

I swatched this below and got a lot of product on my arm so the color looks deep, but you can actually apply it in a sheer way and build color as needed.

Verdict: I would have cancelled my Beauty Box 5 subscription months ago if I hadn't bought an annual subscription up front, and this is one of the first boxes that is making me feel OK about not cancelling. This box has a $60 retail value, and I'm happy with the sizes of all the items included.

I got the same box but a bright white eye crayon instead-great for a highlight though it is very chunky. I usually haven’t loved BaB either. I love the white shimmer powder too. Mine had leaked like the plastic seal wasn’t tight and felt greasy. I probably should tell them, but I feel silly asking for a new one when just a little escaped. Is the powder supposed to feel a little greasy/creamy? I love the way the tints & sass looks as a lip stain. So “natural” and pretty. I won’t use the hair rinse since it has silicone in it which coats my hair and takes harsh removers to get off. I am surprised they are saying that something with silicones in it is going to remove residue since it is just adding more. It really messes with my curls! I will give away the perfume. It smelled so bad to me, but it might smell great on someone else! 🙂 I was going to cancel too, but I’m getting more hopeful with bb5, and even when all they send is lip balm and polish, I’m happy with things I can actually use.

Wow! This is the best BB5 box I have ever seen! Beats out Ipsy and Birchbox(their closest competition) by far! You usually almost always get foil packets with this sub. If only every month was even 1/2 this they would be the best.

This is a great box for $12, unfortunately it looks like a lot of old samples and things most people have gotten already. I got most of those products in sub boxes last year.

I’m glad you mentioned that. I will have to keep an eye on it since I also get Ipsy and recently added birchbox. So far ipsy is my absolute favorite and I find uses for their cute bags too. So far birchbox has not thrilled me with their tiny samples and all their perfume!!! but I will see. I’ve had ipsy the longest, and it’s gotten better for me since I review everything and adjusted my profile until I started getting mostly good bags for my style! 🙂 I imagine eventually I will drop all the other subs especially if I find I can’t use up all the products or give them away fast enough…or if I need to give most away! I have a HUGE giveaway pile already.

I usually read the BB5 reviews just to laugh at how awful the box is (I’m awful, I know.) But this month they weren’t too bad! … Wait. Are we sure none of the products are expired??

For a ton of reasons, I’m super suspicious of this subscription. They ran a special box a few months back with several high-end brands. When I contacted those brands, every one that replied back said they WERE NOT partners with BB5. I just have this creeping feeling that the same applies here…
They have a bunch of dollar store brand, then suddenly have a month with a bunch of a higher-end (for them) brands? I dunno, it just seems really suspect to me.

LOL! That’s why I came to read this review too! I wouldn’t use anything in this except the Mott stain, but it still looks like a great value with decent products. It is wonderful to see a deservedly-maligned box turn itself around, since it happens so rarely, but that means I’m missing my monthly chuckle from the comments!

I had a year sub that ended in February. I was more than happy to be rid of BB5. BUT…I resubbed two months ago, after seeing some great reviews. This time I went on a month to month plan. I want to make sure they are going to stay on this path before I purchase anot her year subscription.

Wow! That’s a great value for a $12 box! I might have to look into this one.

The only reason I cancelled my Beauty Box Five subscription is because I was overwhelmed with samples after over a year of having multiple beauty subscriptions. It was always one of my favorites. Now the only beauty subscription I have left is Yuzen, which will soon expire. And goodebox, which I cancelled, then immediately rejoined because, for me, it’s the best darn box out there. When I feel like adding another box again, it will either be Kloverbox or this BB5.

My girls received the exact same perfume in their Oct boodle boxes.
