Linen Crate is a new subscription box for home goods (mostly linens). Each box is themed to one room in your house for every one month.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Also good to know about this subscription:

The Bathroom / Powder room box is the 1st box every new subscriber gets, then after she receives the box she will cycle to the next box based on his plan ( monthly, every 2nd month or every 3rd month) they will get the box for that specific month for featured room. The subscriber will cycle all rooms at least once if they maintain a year subscription, monthly plans will cycle all rooms twice a year.

The Cost: $109 plus $4.99 shipping

The Products: Linen goods for your home based on your style/color profile. You can choose to get delivery every 1, 2, or 3 months.

Good to know: The first Box you will receive features your Bathroom/Powder Room. The Box will be a Bathroom Box where you will receive 6-9 Linens and Accessories curated for your bathroom based on your color/style preferences.

This box comes with a sheet detailing the items included and the retail prices.

FYI – My style profile for this subscription is Contemporary/Modern with light/neutral colors.

Q-Squared Appetizer Plates - (Set of 6) Value $54 total

These melamine plates measure 5.5 inches across. (And yay - dishwasher safe and BPA free!)

Q-Squared Dinner Plates - (Set of 6) Value $84

(These measure 10.5 inches across). I'm not sure if these are a style I would have picked out myself, but I like them. (Do you think they match the contemporary/modern style? I think the square lines are a good fit, but I'm not sure of some of the designs).

Torres & Tagus Stainless Steel Plater - Value $55

I couldn't find this exact tray online, but after searching for "Torres & Tagus stainless steel," I now want to buy t his pitcher!

This may be my favorite item in the box. (My husband loves it too!) Since it is stainless steel it will work for food serving or just as a decorative tray - right now it is on my coffee table with my POPSUGAR Special Edition Fall Box goodies!

Trends Collections Placemat Set (set of 6) - Value $30 total

(The label says 4 Pack, but Linen Crate added an addition 2 placemat settings). These are great for us - they are neutral but interesting, work with our dining room table wood color, and I just realized we didn't own placemats up until now. Time to get just a bit more formal!

Verdict: This box has a retail value of about $223. I'm impressed with the brands Linen Crate included with this box - and I think a value that is double the cost of the box is a good deal.

I'm really glad Linen Crate offers returns. (Subscribers have to cover the shipping costs, though). Since spending $100 is a lot on a surprise box, this really helps eliminate the risk. (Especially if anyone is really picky about their home stuff like I am!)

Im so glad I cancelled after the firstbox. I would not have liked the dinning room box at all.

Melamine plates make up the majority of this pricey box. No, no, and more no.

I actually cancelled after seeing reviews of this (and i had the original $75 subscription). I don’t like anything plastic, for quality/health/aesthetic reasons. So while it was a tough decision to press that cancel button, I rationalized that for $75 I would get 12 plastic plates, placemats (don’t use and some are hard to clean which kind of defeats the purpose of them) and a metal tray which is a give or take for me. And I couldn’t even choose the color/pattern of the plates. I do wish LinenCrate best of luck and success though.

I purged the vast majority of the plastic in my kitchen several years ago. I’m not going to intentionally invite it back in. I should think that Linen Crate would know that plastic dishware is a risky product, as many customers are like you and I. Since you can’t just skip the dining room box, this is a deal breaker for me. I’m moving into a new home soon, so I was watching this unfold with interest.

Oh no, the dining room box is my next one. I don’t want plastic melamine plates! I don’t want any plates that aren’t microwave safe. Who would? Bad judgement of the market on Linen Crate’s part? 🙁 I also hate placemats. For the price, I expected a MUCH higher quality and durability in the products. This particular box is definitely for the patio.

I really DO like how they’re now adding a retail value sheet. I appreciate that. The patterns Liz got are crazy-busy, but I think they go together in an unexpected way. I gave Linen Crate my Pinterest link and they did a great job with fitting my style in the first box. I’m just going to say a hail Mary and hang in there. Please no plastic (melamine at that!) dinnerware.

I agree with the melamine plate comments. Great for outdoors, not the dinning room table. I can’t imagine paying $54 for plastic. I like the design and the idea of the box but I would expect better quality items for this price

Wow, this box is soooooo much better than the box they sent to Ramblings of a Suburban Mom. Her plates didn’t really go with each other or with the placemats they sent. If I could be sure I would get a nicely coordinated box like this one, I would subscribe. But I’m afraid of getting one like Suburban Mom did (of course she was super nice about it but all I could think was that I would be so let down if I got the box she did).

You’re right. What an odd combination they sent her!

I dont have a need for this box but wish I had those plates! ♡

No kidding! No way would I use melamine in my dining room, maybe outside on the patio, but not for this kind of $.
This subscription reminds me of the stuff my ex’s mom would buy him for his home when he was young. You never knew where it came from, a strange hybrid of dollar store cheapness with all the style of a swap meet.

AGREE! And in what alternaverse do 6 small plastic plates retail for $54. Talk about overinflated values.

I do like the tray though.

Totally agree, can’t microwave them or put them in the dishwasher. I’m not hand washing plastic dishes. But I do like the design on them.

I like the idea of this box but the taste seems somewhat outdated. Maybe it is just my personal taste, but I prefer a more simple design in my décor in general. For example, all of my dishes are white and a matte pottery type material and dining table is reclaimed wood. I am keeping my eye on this box though as the last one was nice! What happened to Skandicrush?

That is a SUPER taste-specific design. I can easily see plenty of people hating it with others loving it. Personally, I wouldn’t have picked it out, but if they were given as a gift, I would probably use them. …Probably.

I’m not sure I would call it modern either.

I am not sure it says Contemporary/Modern. To me it says Art Deco!

I second the Art Deco motif assessment. Not a bad thing at all since it can be incorporated with many design themes pretty seamlessly.

Somewhere I have an old homemaking book that complains about the modern trend of placemats, which it insists are never formal. Apparently placemats were invented in WWI and caught on as an easier alternative to ironing linen tablecloths. Funny how perceptions change over time!

The curation of this box still seems kind of 1990s to me, but the silver dish and placemats seem workable.
