Dia & Co. Subscription Review September 2015 - box

Dia & Co
2.5 overall rating

Dia & Co. is a monthly clothing styling subscription service for plus sizes. I have been waiting for ages for someone to start this kind of service! When I signed up for the service, I filled out a fairly in-depth questionnaire about my likes and dislikes, my size, my price range, and other questions that might help my stylist. Every month my stylist sends five pieces for me to try out. The service fee is $20 per month, but that fee is applied to any item I decide to keep. Additionally, there is a 20% discount if I decide to keep all five pieces!

FYI - My items are reflective of my style and price preferences, so your package from Dia & Co. may be completely different!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Dia & Co. Subscription Review September 2015 - instructions

Dia & Co. applied this little instruction card to the inside of the box. It explains a bit more about how the service works logistically. Very helpful!

Dia & Co. Subscription Review September 2015 - letter-note

On the left is the invoice with the itemized prices. It also shows what my total cost to keep would be with the $20 styling fee applied plus the 20% discount if I keep all five items. On the right is a note from my stylist Maria, telling me a bit more about why she chose some of the items.

Dia & Co. Subscription Review September 2015 - NYDJ

Not Your Daughter's Jeans Widelegged Trousers - Cost to Keep $124

I am so pleased to finally try a pair of NYDJ jeans! I've never tried them before, and I finally know what all the fuss is about! They have the perfect amount of supportive stretch, and the dark rinse plus wide legs are super flattering. I also love the simple tailoring on this pair. I just don't know if I can bring myself to spend retail price on jeans! This is in the maybe pile for now...

Dia & Co. Subscription Review September 2015 - dress

Karin Stevens Contrast Shift Dress - Cost to Keep $49.50

This is seriously one of the most flattering dresses I have ever tried on. The light top plus the dark bottom is very slimming on pear shapes like myself! I also love the print; it has a retro vibe updated with modern colors. Unfortunately, I just can't buy a summer dress in September. It's a hard and fast rule with me, so this one has to go back.

Dia & Co. Subscription Review September 2015 - paisley

Diya Boho Top with Paisley Print - Cost to Keep $57

This top is really unflattering on me. I like the print and the fabric, it's perfect for fall, but I don't look good in anything that "balloons," and this blouse balloons everywhere. This one has to go back as well.

Dia & Co. Subscription Review September 2015 - white-blouse

ASOS Curve Lace Top with Insert - Cost to Keep $61

This blouse is so beautiful! The fabric is so lightweight and sheer, and the detailing everywhere is absolutely gorgeous! This blouse with a cami is the perfect weight for early fall, and it's just my style. This one's a keeper for sure.

Dia & Co. Subscription Review September 2015 - cardigan

Blue Heart Aztec Print Cardigan - Cost to Keep $40

This cardigan is very cute and the cut is flattering. Unfortunately I don't like the color, and the fabric feels a little cheap to me. I think I have to send this one back, too.

The Verdict: This was a really fun and exciting first box from Dia & Co.! I think my stylist did an excellent, excellent job selecting items that are perfect for my tastes. I completely loved three of the five items she sent me, and I'm only sending the dress back because of the season. The other two items were close to the mark but didn't quite hit the bullseye. I'm impressed! I can't wait to see what next month brings.

My first box was great! I kept everything. My second box was a complete fail and I am sending everything back. I am a 55 year old lawyer and they sent me a pleather skirt and ugly shearling pleather vest. it is like the new stylist didn’t bother to read my profile. Someone mentioned in another boxes comment that there was a new subscription service that seemed to be for older women. Does anyone remember what that one was?

Oh…dear. That sounds horrible!

That dress is really pretty. I gotta look around to see if I can find it in my size.

This box seems like a good idea but I’m always worried about clothing subscriptions. I don’t like the idea of someone picking out my clothes since the person who knows my style best is me. Plus, I don’t have a general “style” when it comes to fashion.

If you are looking for NYDJ for cheaps… check out Nordstrom Rack’s website and/or Hautelook (flash sale for nordstrom)…they have NYDJ on there regularly for around $60-$80 a pair…I’ve bought from them and they are great.

Also Gwynnie Bee will periodically sell their stash of NYDJ on their sale sight for super cheap.

6pm.com also caries NYDJ for big discounts. I have only paid full price for NYDJ and it was before I found these websites. I hope that helps.

I totally posted previously and for whatever reason my comment didn’t post…. DIA does price match . Last month I fell in love with a skirt they invoiced for $65.00… I however found it on a website for $25.00 and they matched it. I love Dia… Their customer service is wonderful and they truly value and take your feedback. I am seriously enjoying their service.

Awesome! Thanks Gigi!

Anna, have you tried asking Dia & Co. if they will do a price match for you if you find the jeans online for less? Maybe they would prefer to do this rather than losing the sale altogether.

Interesting review!

Thanks chris! That’s a good idea…

FYI Dia price matches. If something you like from your box is cheaper online, they will give it to you for that price. I fell in love with a skirt in my last box that they invoiced for $65 and I found it for $25.00 and I was able to keep it for that price. I really love their service and am really enjoying them a lot.

I’ve had two boxes from Dia & Co so far. The styles they sent were all really good for me, so I have hopes for this. I only kept a pair of jeans from my August box because everything else was summer and I didn’t want to pay full price for them. On the plus side, a dress and a top I loved from the box were available on clearance from Macy’s, so I still ended up getting them, just not from Dia & Co and not at full price. For my September box, I’m just keeping a dress. There was a pair of pants that totally didn’t fit, so I had to send them back. Everything else was good, but I didn’t want to pay full price for them. If the pants had fit nicely, I probably would have ended up buying the whole box because with the discount, it was a good price. Now I have to decide if I’m going to cancel Gwynnie Bee or keep them both.

Just wanted to let you know that NYDJ come up on Hautelook regularly.

Glad to see a review of this box! I’ve gotten two boxes since I first heard about it. I like that it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than Gwynnie Bee but it’s more of a surprise of what you get. The first month it had some ok things, but I wouldn’t pay $80 for a maxi or $150 for a pleather jacket. I just bought some brand new maxis from Torrid for $40/each and a pleather moto jacket from Lane Bryant last year for $50. I really like the service, just feel the clothes are a little steep compared to what I normally spend. I’m a shopaholic and barely ever pay full price for anything.

Oh, I hope you keep that dress! It’s gorgeous!!! And the price is really reasonable! I was thinking the same thing as the others- with a black jacket it could take you through to Nov. then you can bring it out again in April.

I’ve been wanting to try this subscription! Is it like Qwynnie Bee where you rent the pieces? As I get 5 pieces, I keep one.. would I get 4 more pieces until the month is over, or does once I sent those 4 back, that’s all I get for the month? 😀

Reply ButtonReply

Faye

It looks like this is a try on and buy it or send it back, not a rental subscription.

Anna

Hi Valerie! No, it’s more like Stitch Fix, I think. They send you 5 pieces, all at once, and they are all new. You pay $20 for this service. You keep what you like and pay for the items. The $20 goes towards your purchase if you purchase something. You send back what you don’t like. They will send you another package the next month. I hope that helps!

Kendra

Does it have a discount for keeping all items like Stich Fix? Or do you just pay retail for whatever you like?

Laurie MacDougall

Yes, keep the dress! It’s very reasonably priced, and you said you loved it. You could wear it with tights and a cardigan!

I got my first Dia & Co box last month. Of the five items I received, I ended up only keeping a pair of Style & Co jeggings. (I thought I’d hate the way they fit, but it was just the opposite. They were super comfy and not skintight like leggings usually are.) The other 4 items were totally my style, but were returned for other reasons. One top was a gorgeous shade of blue, but it was too big and felt like a tent. The other top I received was ADORABLE and I totally would have kept it IF the front hadn’t been see through. That meant I would have had to were a cami underneath, which changed the fit. The wrap dress fit nicely, but the pattern was not attractive on me. Finally, I received a necklace (I opted to receive one piece of jewelry in my box). The necklace was great, but very similar to one I already owned. I’m excited to see what my stylist picks for me this month!

I know NYDJ are expensive, but you won’t regret spending the money on them. You’ll be able to wear them for several YEARS before they’ll need to be replaced.

Thanks MelissaH! Good to know!

Oh, keep the dress. It sounds as if you’re only keeping one other thing. So go for it. You might have a day when you could pair it with tights and a cardigan. Even though I’m not plus size, things don’t usually fit me quite right so when I find something great I get it. If I found the perfect tank top in January I’d buy it.

I would keep the dress if I were you! Especially since you said it’s so flattering on and the price seems very reasonable. I wear dresses year-round and I live in Michigan. This one doesn’t scream summer to me, more like fall or winter, actually. I think it would look lovely with black tights and a cardigan with flats or boots.

This is what I have been waiting for! I’ve always wanted to try the clothing subscriptions, but none have my sizes (I’ve been losing weight too). So Dia is a welcome subscription for me and I’m going to try this out. Definitely looking forward to what is sent to me!

Yay! Also good job on losing weight, let me know your secret! 😉
