Comic Bento is a geek/comic subscription box that sends a surprise selection of graphic novels with at least $60 worth of comics in every box!
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)
The Subscription Box: Comic Bento
The Cost: $25 ($17.50 + s/h)
The Products: A surprise selection of graphic novels with at least $60 worth of comics
Ships to: US and Canada
Good To Know: I'm calculating value for each novel based on their sticker value and not from online websites like Amazon.
The box included a card with some information about each selection this month. This month's theme was Fight The Fight.
Superman/Batman: Vengeance - Value $12.76 on Amazon
I'm excited to jump into this Batman/Superman volume from 2006.
Batman and Superman travel to an alternate Earth to kill the man responsible for the death of Lois Lane.
I'm in just on that tiny bit of info - sounds interesting!
Executive Assistant Iris - Value $13.26 on Amazon
This series is from 2011, and is completely new to me. The gist is that Iris is a hired gun for a CEO - just flipping through, I'm not sure that this one is for me. I definitely give it a shot though.
X-O Manowar: Enter Ninjak - Value $13.43
This is actually volume 2 of this series. This comic gets great reviews on Amazon, and from a sizable amount of users - so I'm excited to give it a try and see if I have another series to try!
Highlander Volume 3 - Value $10.79
I'm assuming this is a 'bonus' volume this month, since it's not mentioned on the card. My copy seems like it's a second hand copy, I could be wrong, but the front and back covers are damaged and pages were stuck together for unexplainable reasons. I'm not sure what to think about their bonus volumes now, are they second hand volumes?
Daredevil Season One - Value $18.53
This month's hardcover is a Daredevil volume! I had just finished reading Frank Miller's The Man Without Fear, so I'm excited for this one. It doesn't get great reviews, and I've read the first 10-15 pages - and I'd say it's an ok rehashing of the origin story. I was excited that it came with a digital redemption to add to my Marvel digital library - but I just found out that the code expired 2 years ago, so I'm bummed.
Verdict: This is my second shipment from Comic Bento, and so far, I'm on the fence with this subscription. I like the idea of getting volumes in the mail, and I'm ok with getting older volumes since I haven't kept up with comics in general. That being said - it'd be nice if they included 1 or 2 volumes from the current year. I think it could be a good subscription for catching up in comics, but anyone who follows comics closely would opt for a subscription that sends new issues.
