I am seriously considering subscribing to Birchbox, simply b/c of the curated boxes this month. I currently get ipsy, which lately has only been ok, so I love the thought of actually having some control over what I get. How do I select one of the curated boxes when I sign up? Not seeing any choices on the initial subscribe page?

You have to sign up for Birchbox first. Probably won’t be able to choose which box you get the first month though.
I canceled ipsy. I’m sad about it but had to choose between the two and Birchbox’s points system is so much better!

Sample choice has passed for October. It’s usually towards the end of the previous month. I know the curated boxes were available in the shop for awhile but I hear at least one of them has sold out.

Does anyone know what the 5th mascara choice is shown in their main webpage?

So excited to try Roller Lash! I have been waiting for this in one of my boxes for awhile now before I purchase the full size. Can’t wait to get the sample choice e-mail!!

If you cancel your Birchbox account, do you lose your points?
I’m thinking about cancelling my 2nd account bc I have product overload right now and neither of the curated boxes interest me, but I don’t want to lose points.

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

No, you don’t lose points. (Because points can be earned for other things, besides a sub, like shop purchases.)

Reply ButtonReply

Randi

Thanks Ragan!

That’s kinda what I was thinking but wanted to check.

I usually do the pick a sample option then buy the curated box separate if it appeals to me. This month I think I’ll let Birchbox surprise me as I like all of these mascara brands and neither of the curated boxes are must haves. None of the add ons screams must have either so my wallet is happy this month lol

Sara

I just canceled my 2nd account, I don’t need any mascara and don’t really like the curated boxes. Decided to save my $10 for October, Ipsy is still on the chopping block, I keep changing my profile hoping it will get better and it doesn’t. I might have to cancel it after October if it’s another terrible bag.

Reply ButtonReply

Angela

I don’t like October choices.

Reply ButtonReply

Addie

How do you become an Ace?!?

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

Basically just earn 500 points in a year. The points have to come from reviewing items in your box, purchases, and/or the purchase of a subscription. 100-point sign-up codes also count. But “sorry” points for BB screw-ups don’t count. (You can get to 500 points in one year by reviewing monthly samples and sharing your box on social media.)

Only thing in the curated boxes I want is the chubby stick and the origins cleanser but they’re in seperate boxes 🙁 I dont want any of the other items in either box. Ill check out the mascaras. I think Im gonna get a second box so I can get two mascaras. I already know Iove both benefit ones. Ive gotten 5 BBs and have loved everything, even the fragrances!

Jen

While I don’t need another lip product, I really want to try Darphin! I’m glad I just opened another account, so I can get both curated boxes! Love the boxes too!

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

Also LOVEEEEE the fact that BB has committed to donate $100 004 for breast cancer research ( = funding for one year of lab work!).

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

I love that smashbox prime!! I’m really excited for Octobers box! That Clinique chubby stick is nice too, I have one already. It’ll be a nice break from all the mini shampoos and conditioners I’ve been receiving…

Reply ButtonReply

Megan

Agreed! I’m a curly girl so I’m pickg with shampoos and every single box lately I’ve only liked one thing. I’m SO excited for October!!! I love them all!

Reply ButtonReply

Caitlin

How do I get the curated boxes? Everytime I get the email to pick my sample choice, I never get that option.. It just gives me the sample choices.

Reply ButtonReply

Wendy

If you signed up for the $20 add on of two full size products, you can not get the curated boxes.

Reply ButtonReply

Cindy

I have wanted to try that Smashbox primer. Does anyone recommend or not recommend it? I guess I will go for the second curated box. I really do not like that Origins cleanser (way too drying). I am not sure whether I’m going to keep my second box or cancel that sub this month.

Reply ButtonReply

Cindy

Thank you everyone. I have dry skin so I think it will be a good item for me.

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

It’s a fantastic little primer! It’s a little heavy, but it leaves my skin so smooth and velvety! I have combination skin and I love it. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Emma

I love the Smashbox primer. A little goes a long way, so that tube will last forever. My skin is usually pretty dry, so it adds a good amount of glow. On days that I’m a bit less dry, it can make my face look oily, so I think if you have more oily skin, it might not be best for you. I really like it though!

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

I have just finished a sample tube of it.

I have combination skin with a really oily t-zone. It is a good primer for that, but not perfect. (My favorites are the Paula’s Choice shine stopper and the pore minimizing Smashbox one that is a little bit tinted.)

Whether it works for you will kind of depend on your skin type and what makeup you use. It is a 4 star product for me, not 5, if I was using the Amazon scale.

Was going to finally (after almost three years) cancel my sub but hanging on bc I love mascara. The Well People one is good — if you like a very (VERY) natural look. Have been super curious about Roller Lash mascara so will probably try that. Agree the curated boxes look good but I have a lot of those samples — including that shade of Clinique chubby stick (at least I think I do — looks like the strawberry one). Oh, and I have been buying Prescriptives online for years (love their Vibran-C face cream) — they went solely online after they stopped selling at department stores.

chillybeans

Roller lash is my new favorite mascara-it lasts all day, doesn’t clump, gives major lashes, doesn’t run, and is easy to take off. That sample size lasts a long time!

Reply ButtonReply

Christina

I disliked the benefit they’re real, but I got the w3ll as a bonus the other month and loved that so I might just pick that for both my boxes.

Reply ButtonReply

Brooke

Phew! I did not want another mascara. I’m loving on the second curtated box…

Reply ButtonReply

trace

This will be my first box. Want to see how well they follow my profile. Will just let the dice roll this go around.

Reply ButtonReply

Jill

This is why I like birchbox over Ipsy (and there awesome point system)- even though I don’t always like the sample choices, I like being able to pick one or all the items some months, and I love all the choices this month !

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

I think it’s weird to have prescriptives in a box… didn’t they go out of business 10 years ago?

Reply ButtonReply

Dean

Prescriptives was acquired by Clinique a few years ago.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Just did a search and found this: “Prescriptives is no longer in stores, but your favorite makeup and skincare products are still available exclusively online.”

Hope that helps!

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

I just reactivated my sub so I can get one of these curated boxes! I only managed to stay away for two months…

Reply ButtonReply

Jayne

So if I reactivate now will I be able to select a curated box? (I’m an Ace if that matters.). Thanks.

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

It looks like I am getting the September box after having just reactivated, and these curated ones are for October, so I hope so!

Annie

Does anyone know if these curated boxes will be for sale in the shop?

Reply ButtonReply

Staci

It seems in the past few months they do put the curated boxes in the shop. I think they end up being $10 or $15.

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

It’s weird they have Estee Lauder and Clinique in a box, I’ll probably get the curated box with the Clinique lip balm in it so I can finally get a lip product. I don’t need anymore mascara.

Reply ButtonReply

Symi

The curated box for me this mo

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

The curated box with the Darphin and Estee Lauder should have a good value, especially if the sizes will be as they’re depicted here. But I have no need for moisturizer at all! Seriously I don’t think I’ll need to buy any for at least two years, with all the samples and full size bottles I’ve gotten from subscriptions (and my skin isn’t picky).

I have all of the mascaras except for the new Stila one so I’ll try that one just to get something new. But the Roller Lash and Better Than Sex are probably the best mascaras I’ve ever tried. I wasn’t impressed with the Well mascara that I’ve tried from a past Birchbox. I highly recommend those Benefit mascaras to anyone who’s never tried them. Awesome formulas, even on my stubby, thin eyelashes.

If my subscription was a gift am I stI’ll eligible to include the birchbox plus items to my October box?

Reply ButtonReply

NEC

I don’t think so. I’ve tried to add on the plus items in the past and found out that I’d it’s a gift sub, you can’t add the plus items.
