Orange Glad Subscription Box Review – August 2015 - Shortbread

Mango Coconut Shortbread Tea Mates by Silk Shortbread (6 cookies)- $3.50

Orange Glad regularly sends shortbread cookies, so I’ve come to expect that most boxes will contain them. These are made with dried mango, coconut, and almond extract. I love that the cookies are cut into small, round bites, and I’m a fan of their flavor. Just as the name suggests, I think they’d be perfect served alongside a cup of tea!

Orange Glad Subscription Box Review – August 2015 - KeyLime

Key Lime Coolers by Byrd’s Famous Cookies (1.5 oz.)- $1.50*

Having been raised in Florida, I will always have a place in my heart for Key Lime Cookies (and Conch Fritters). These are really tasty, and they definitely bring back fond memories of childhood trips to Key West. I also love the colorful box, and I think it would make a great gift.

(*Note: I can’t find this exact box for sale on the Byrd website. The per pound price listed on the Byrd website breaks down to $1.50, but I imagine this box would retail for a bit more.)

Orange Glad Subscription Box Review – August 2015 - Caramels

Original & Salted Caramel Snack Pack from Three Kids and a Kitchen (2 candies)- $1.10

I love caramels (especially salted ones), so this is a welcome addition to the box for me. The caramels are great (and VERY sticky), but I wish they were marked so I could distinguish between the flavors without having to taste them.

Orange Glad Subscription Box Review – August 2015 - Waffle

Julian’s Recipe Liege Style Belgian Waffle (1 waffle)

Orange Glad suggests microwaving this waffle for 15 seconds before eating it, and I’m so glad they do. (I took a small nibble before microwaving, and it was a little tough.) After 15 seconds in the microwave, it turned into a soft, warm treat. Also, it’s covered in pearlized sugar, which adds a delightful sugary crunch.

Orange Glad Subscription Box Review – August 2015 - Madeline

Donsuemor Lemon Zest Madelines (1 cookie)- $.58

I believe I’ve seen Donsuemor products available at Costco before. While I have no problem with Costco (I shop there regularly), I tend to expect Orange Glad to feature products from small, boutique bakeries. While I like Donsuemor Madelines, I’m a little disappointed to see them in my box. If a bakery is selling at Costco, I don’t really classify them as small.

Verdict: For the most part, I enjoyed this month’s OrangeGlad’s Sweet Box. I like the variety of items selected for August, and I think they’re all tasty. I never expect the value of Orange Glad boxes to be that high, but the value of this box seems to be even lower than usual. Most months, it’s easy for me to justify the low value because I think Orange Glad does a great job introducing me to tasty products from small bakeries across the country. It’s a lot harder to overlook, however, when one of the items is available in bulk at my local big box store. Next month, I hope Orange Glad is a little more discerning with their selections. Discovering new small, artisanal bakeries in one of my favorite things about this subscription.

  1. Such a disappointing box, especially when you think of all the struggling bakers that would love to have a piece of their edible art featured in a box. I was going to subscribe, but I’d rather spend my 20 bucks in my local bakeries or on Etsy.

  2. Wow this is pretty close to being a rip off 🙁 it’s pretty bad that they try to get away with such low value. Yes, curation is worth paying for. However, some of these are available on the mass market so the curation is not good either.

  3. i was definitely disappointed this month, but those mango coconut shortbread cookies were really good. I almost cancelled a few months ago (I wasn’t loving what I was getting considering the calories), but then CS was so nice and then the next box I received ( the one that included the crispy cake) was so amazing that all thoughts of canceling went away. Still hopeful next month will be better!

  4. I’m a bit disappointed as well… Was really looking forward to some more chocolate-y options. I’m skipping next month.

  5. The non value of this box is outrageous.

  6. Loved this month’s box– especially the madeleine. It was delicious regardless of whether or not it can be found at Costco.

    • Agreed, any food box has poor value and this box is about small companies/bakeries that you normally wouldn’t find. But if they continue the $19 pricing I will probably cancel too. It’ll be super sad, it’s my favorite box, but I can go to a local bakery and get awesome goodies.

      • I thought it was tasty but should be better for the price point, so I decided to cancel and got a very nice note lowering the cost of the remaining months. I agreed to give them a little longer. Time will tell.

  7. Julian’s waffles are also available at Costco. :/

    • Yup, when I saw the picture I was thinking the same thing. They are tasty though!

      • Those were divine. Looks like I am going to Costco this weekend. Hahaha!

  8. This was my first month receiving this box because I found a coupon code for 50% off your first box. Even though I paid approx. $15 for a “double box,” I feel like the pastries/candies sent were disappointing and worth no more than maybe $7? On top of that, when I e-mailed OG to cancel, I told them that the “quiz” I took was not reflected in the selection they mailed me…. they said that the quiz has nothing to do with what they send you monthly…. Yep… and they want you to spend $20+ a month for a box that doesn’t take your preferences into consideration? Thanks but no thanks, bye!

  9. Second month of being disappointed! Used to be my favorite sub, but now debating canceling.

  10. I got this box and the mini, the mini didn’t have the madeline or the mango cookies. I agree that it was definitely weaker compared to OG’s other offerings. I wonder if this is the last “Summer Box.”

  11. Definitely my least favorite box I’ve received since I started my subscription. I tried everything and didn’t think anything was good, I ended up tossing all of it. I don’t even think this is worth the $11 I pay per box. Disappointing.

  12. This was my first month and I used the 50% off coupon. So disappointed. I went with the double pack. If I’d spent $31 + shipping for THIS, I’d be angry…not just disappointed. Due to the earlier comments, I may give it one more month.

    Probably not, though.

  13. Holy cow, I would seriously lose my mind if this is what I received for$19!

  14. I was really disappointed this month as well. I got a special deal on black Friday and then kept the subscription going because of the curation and the selection of treats from small bakeries. But this was pretty bad. If next month doesn’t improve, I think I will cancel.

  15. This box was missing the usual gorgeous packaging too. There was no white box inside the main box. Anyway I still love Orange Glad, very sad they’ve upped the price, no longer offer discounts, and gotten rid of the super cute packaging. But I usually love the sweets they send every month. This month I thought everything was so delicious, especially loved the shortbread cookies, but didn’t notice much of a coconut or mango flavor.
