Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – August 2015 Info

This box included an info card detailing their newest beauty product - the creme-to-powder blush stick.

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – August 2015 Polish

Julep Nail Color in Penny – Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Ann – Value $14

I'm happy with both of these shades (they're the Classic with a Twist colors for this month). The Penny shade is a copper/bronze shimmery metallic - I like that it isn't a straight up copper color like the name might suggest.

This Ann color has a very subtle microshimmer mixed in with the creme formula - Julep refers to it as a "ghost shimmer creme."

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – August 2015 Blush

Skip the Brush Creme-to-Powder Blush Stick in Moonlit Sand - Value $24

Maybe it is the part of me that doesn't want to ever grow up, but I always seem to like makeup products that are basically big crayons!

This blush is really easy to apply, and the color I picked is somewhat subtle, so I don't have to worry about overdoing it. It's also pretty easy to blend. Here is a swatch:

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – August 2015 Swatch

This formula has some shimmer in it, so it catches the light. I'll probably use this as a brow bone highlighter too.

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – August 2015 tattoos

This month's bonus item is a set of mini flash tattoos. I love that these are small enough that you can use them on nails. (They work both on skin or nails). Maybe I've finally found a version of flash tattoos I'll wear!

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – August 2015 Coupon

And this box included a coupon for 30% off your next order at Julep.com.

Verdict: I'm happy with my box picks this month. I really like the shade of the blush stick I picked out, and now I'm thinking about trying more shades! What did you pick from Julep for August? Do you like the creme-to-powder stick?

My daughter is turning 17. I’ve gotten her Ulta card, but would really like to stàrt subscription box. The only issue…which one?! I’ve gone to so many websites ( this one by far biggest help) but am still not sure what’s best. Does anyone have advice for her age.. She’s typical teenage girl who loves makeup and hair but has tiny bit of tomboy still. Help?!!!?

I just started with Julep and like it, really like that its more than just polishes and how customize-able it is. I was also going to maybe suggest Ipsy too. When I was younger, I loved getting makeup bags and the Ipsy ones look cute. I’ve never subscribed to Ipsy (I just started a couple months ago with Birchbox), but it looks like a good deal for $10. Birchbox is also another one to maybe consider. Depending on what your daughter is into or needs, I think Birchbox seems to have less makeup. and Birchbox has a good points system if she’d be interested in buying products off their website.

Hi Jen,

I would definitely recommend Julep. When I first discovered this site, I signed up for a ton of boxes and when I had to cut back, this one definitely made the cut and is still something I look forward to every month. I’m 32 and I have always loved makeup. I have a younger sister who basically never wears any and is definitely more of a tomboy. We both LOVE Julep. It is a great box because there are so many options – nail polish, skin care, makeup, lotions etc. It is also nice because you can customize what you get so even if you are taking a chance on a new product, you know it is at least something you would like to try. They have had some great products lately like the shower gel and cuticle cream. Even if she isn’t huge on nail polish, there is so much more to Julep. There is some mystery to it too – they often offer mystery add-ons and it is so fun waiting for the “Live with Jane” video each month to find out what the new products/polish colors are for the month. Then each month on the 20th, you can log in and see all the options for customizing your box. To me, it just makes it so fun and is a treat for myself each month. I am rarely let down like with some boxes, because I don’t end up with a box full of items I may never use. If you choose on of the free welcome boxes, she will get some products free and you can scroll down and do the prepaid plan to get the welcome box plus 2 additional boxes for $39.98 ($19.99/mo.). It will renew at $19.99/mo (prepaid 3 months at a time) for the customizable box. Sorry this is so long but I hope it helps you!

Jen,

Shannerz

I have a really stupid question…. I can’t find the paperwork that tells me about the things in my box….. I got these 2 little orange hard spongey squares….and I don’t know what they are for. Does anyone know?

Thanx….
A subscription box newbie… 🙂

Julep doesn’t send any paperwork with your Maven box. You have to get online to see what was supposed to be in your box. Those orange things are nail buffers. 🙂

In order to get the first month free will I have to pay for months after that? Or can I cancel after my free month if I don’t like it?

You can cancel after your free month if you don’t like it.

I’ve been teetering back and forth on whether or not to try Julep, but I REALLY WANT that blush stick. I have a similar product that I LOVE from elf, and that color is just gorgeous.

This month I picked Mari, Ann and Sierra. I’m wearing the Mari right now and it’s quite lovely. I’m not a huge fan of pink but this is a very universal orchid shade with a unique finish that gives a dimensionality. Very pretty! These new finishes are what keep me buying even though I now own over 100 julep polishes. It’s not a problem unless it interferes with your life right? 😉

I’ve skipped the past few months of Julep (I love that I have that option!), but I couldn’t pass up trying the new blushes.

I got Golden Guava and Moonlit Sand. They are both gorgeous. I also had enough Jules to get three add-ons for free, which meant I also got a free gift for getting three add-ons! lol I added Tiffany (a red jelly), Suse (a coral creme for which I’ve been pining) and a little sheet of nail diamonds (so tiny and sparkly!). My free gift was Lee, a red creme, and the decals that Liz got. Lee is really similar to Tiffany. I was a little bummed that they sent me a red when I had already added a red, but it’s a different finish, so I guess it’s okay. Plus, it’s really pretty!

I got all of that for my regular Maven box cost of $24.99! I’m a happy Maven this month!

Except Tiffany is a jelly and Lee is a creme, so even though they’re a similar shade of red they’re really different! Jellies look amazing layered over top of a glittery polish – e.g., try Tiffany over top of something similar to Penny.

I haven’t tried my new blush sticks yet (I got all except Golden Guava, and now I also want that one!), but they are all gorgeous! I also got all three new eyeshadow duos this month, and I love them all.

I didn’t pick any of this month’s polishes, but I did add on an older color (Jessica), and I’m excited to try her.

I’m really loving Julep Maven so far! It’s now one of my favorite subscriptions. I love the customization options.

My box was missing an item, and it took them a few days to respond to my email, but they are sending the other item out right away. 🙂

I got the Golden Guava creme-to-powder and it is gorge, it has coral-ish color and is really shimmery, especially on lips. I have extremely fair skin/red hair and it goes really well with my complexion.

I got the peony pink with my maven box…but they didn’t get it in there, sent me Rochelle polish instead, but now it’s coming my want after I talked to customer service. Their customer service is good, just soooo slow. But I also got the moonlit sand from the secret store along with the highlighting powder and brush…couldn’t pass it up! I actually love the creme to powder stick! Can’t wait to try out my peony pink when it gets to me!
