I guess I’ll get the shampoo on one and the brow pencil on the other account. That is truly the worst curated box I’ve seen. And that Marcelle eyeliner is terrible. Not only is it not waterproof, it smears and ‘drifts’ something terrible!

Weird that so many people hate Marcelle eyeliner. I love it so much I’ve bought 2 full size.

Wow, this months box really seems like a bust…i’m surprised. I own the Liz Earle hot cloths and they make your skin feel amazing, so if you haven’t tried them, i’d do that. Guess I’ll have to take my chances this month and not pick any samples at all. Maybe the Birchbox gods will be nice to me and give me something better 🙂

Chanttee

Is it possible to skip a month? Not feeling anything this time around…

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

You can either not pick something and hope you don’t get one of the items in your box (though you probably will anyway) or just cancel and resubscribe next month. The only catch is you will probably not get a sample choice next month, because if you re-sign up before sample choice day at the end of September, you’ll get a September box.

Reply ButtonReply

kerri

Nope. No skip option with Birchbox.

Anastasia

Liz, does Birchbox have any deals where they try to lure you back in?

My year was up so I cancelled. Now I regret it,? but I’m trying to hold out until they have a deal.

Emily

Not Liz, but chiming in:

There were a bunch of deals over the holidays. $99 subs with free gift, and for a couple of days I think subs were $88 or $89. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen anything like that in months. They do sometimes have 100 point bonus codes for signing up.

I added on the Stila liquid lipstick trio. I picked Bella the hot pink one in July and it is my new HG lipstick so I can’t wait to try the bright orange and red.

tara

hopefully i get the email this month…its very hit or miss for me but i would pick the brow pencil. hoping its the right color ! all other items dont appeal and i think i have all the items in the customer faves box

I am so excited because I was one of the winners from the box design contest and my name is going to be on the box! I am not choosing the curated box since it has its own box design.

Reply ButtonReply

Dani

That’s awesome! It’s a beautiful box.

Reply ButtonReply

Abby

Congratulations! It’s beautiful.

This will be the first time in several months that I won’t be opting for the curated box – is it just me or is it seriously underwhelming? I’m not crazy about the other sample options either – love Davines but I only use specific shampoos for my blonde highlights, not a huge fan of Pop shadows (I received a brown trio through ipsy and never used it beyond the initial swatch), and I’ve never been wowed by the Pores No More line from Dr. Brandt. I would try the Anastasia brow pencil, but I’m traditionally taupe in that line and I’m afraid it’ll be too dark. September’s shaping up to be a bit of a miss at this point. Oh well – enjoyed July and August 🙂

I wonder if the brow product will work with dark eyebrows? I might get that and the eyeshadow, simply because I’ve received both the other samples before (in fact I have the cleanser in FS from BeautyDNA). Curated box does not interest me primarily because of the Harvey Prince. Also I’ve gotten the Liz Earle product before and I have a couple of the Marcelle liners already. (Harvey Prince fragrances are just not for me. Although Sincerely is the worst!)

Ariel

I’ve been subscribed for two months now and haven’t gotten this email about choosing a sample. Do I need to pay more than the $10 to do this or is something wrong with my account? Thanks.

Reply ButtonReply

Mary

Ariel, the others gave you good advice, I just wanted to add that I DO have my settings to accept all Birchbox emails and I still only get the sample choice email sporadically. I don’t know why this is so, but I’ve been a BB subscriber for 7 mos and have only received sample choice emails twice! (Not in Spam folder either.) Luckily I don’t care all that much or I’d be peeved. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

You can also e-mail them on sample choice day, say you haven’t gotten your e-mail, and tell them what you want. That usually works for me.

Jessvii

You don’t need to pay more for sample choice. However, you have to elect to receive all of their promo (ad-like) emails in order to get the sample choice emails. If you email customer service, they can set you up to make sure you’re getting the emails. After that, if you still don’t see them, check your junk mail / spam folders.

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

Check your email settings. Somehow I had turned of all emails from Birchbox so I wasn’t getting them either. If you can’t figure it out from poking around in your account, contact Birchbox customer service and they will help you out.

I got the Hello! sample in this month’s box, a Beauty Protector body wash (I’m not a fan of the scent) AND the Davines shampoo in the Mystery trio so me thinks the Dr. Brandt cleanser will be my choice (I just brought a eyeshadow palette in plum-y colors AND medium brown is probably too light for my brows). This is an underwhelming month, given how I got similar selections in my recent bonuses/boxes, I can’t help but feel like BB is experiencing a little fatigue!

Reply ButtonReply

Jessvii

Got the Dr. Brandt’s in my last box but I like it so I may choose that. Or maybe the eyebrow pencil, though it may be too dark for me.

Reply ButtonReply

cheryl

Are you kidding me ?? Same stuff all the time. I love the concept of BB and have subscribed with them for years , but am over getting the same things over and over when they sell thousands of products. I’ve yet to get a sample of foundation. I am over the same hair products already. Barely get a lipstick except for the crayons and I’ve received more than one of the Stila awful long lasting lip stains. I bought a yearly subscription and once that is over will rethink if it’s worth it to spend $10 to get the discounts. I’m on the Sephora waiting list and and thinking they have to do better than this for $10.

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

I wholeheartedly agree with you!! I’ve been a BB subscriber for over 4 years and very underwhelmed lately. I used to get lip glosses, snack items, or life style items sometimes. Now I never get them, the last couple boxes have been hair product boxes for me, and they’re for fine/thin hair when I have thick/curly hair. Don’t know what’s going on with them. I’d kill for some actual makeup like blush, foundation, concealer, bb creams, lip glosses. All my boxes anymore seem to be mascara, eye liner or crappy hair products I can’t use. Hell I’d even like some body wash or lotion, at least it would be something different. I’d like different products than what I get every month and September, I’ve already gotten the Liz Earle, Harvey Prince, Dr. Brandt, Davines and Marcelle. So I won’t even get the 50 points, super disappointing.

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

I don’t think I’d want foundation from them. They’d send totally the wrong color. Or they’d send the same color to everyone.

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

None of the sample choices really stand out to me, but I LOVE that “mood board” box! Gorgeous!!! I’ll probably go for the Davines or Anastasia item 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Annie

I’m new to Birchbox I’m trying to figure out what the “Harvey Prince Hello” item is. Is it a fragrance? thanks

Reply ButtonReply

Jessvii

Its a fragrance. Not one of my favorites either. I’ve already gotten one in my regular Birchbox from late winter.

Reply ButtonReply

Annie

Do you remember at all what it smells like ?

AmyM

Try harder, Birchbox! If I get one more blasted Harvey Prince Hello sample I’m going to lose my mind.

Reply ButtonReply

nana

I totally agree. Birchbox provides a great service to new brands by letting people know about them, but overexposure can kill you just as sure as underexposure. After getting four Harvey Prince perfumes, I’ve grown to change the brand.

Reply ButtonReply

Emily

I think I’ll go for the shampoo. Not a wildly exciting sample choice for me this month, but I like Davines.

Reply ButtonReply

Abby

I loved the last 2 curated boxes but definitely won’t be getting this one. That grayish-purple mid tone, last in the palette, looks nice though so hopefully there will be enough to go around.

Reply ButtonReply

Abby

Oh, and what is the deal with red eyeliner everywhere? I got on in my Ipsy bag. Are people really wearing this?

Reply ButtonReply

Emily

I got the Mulberry eyeliner sample in my July box and it’s not red, but an earthy purple. It’s very pretty.

kerri

Yes!!! It looks awesome with green or hazel eyes. It’s one of my favorite colors for eyeliner or eyeshadow. I have hazel eyes.

Mimi Retzkin

I like the eyeshadow, and that cuff bracelet looks nice. The necklace might be interesting, too. It seems every other month either there’s something I want in the regular box, or the curated box looks cool. I figure one of these days I’ll want both (and I’m not adverse to signing up for two boxes) but so far it’s worked well.

Reply ButtonReply

Robin S.

I am not too thrilled either but I will go with the Dr. Brandt but I love the tote so I think I will get it.

Reply ButtonReply

Krista

Anastasia brow pencil, yay! I wonder how come I didn’t get an email with the video link? I usually do. I hope my sample choice email on the 26th gets here!

Reply ButtonReply

Krista

I got the email today with the PYS video 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Annie

Can you cancel an add on?

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer gonzalez

Hey Annie, I tried to cancel my plus item & was sent an email that they can’t take cancellations after the first of the month as they bill for them on the second of the month so I think if you send an email to Birchbox they might be able to do it for you, they ended up refunding my account & sending me an email to send the item back for free. Hope this helps you.

Reply ButtonReply

kerri

I don’t think so. Maybe try emailing Birchbox to ask.

Reply ButtonReply

Heidi

I’ve done it by calling. It was no problem.

Dom

I’m not too excited about September’s choices because I’ve gotten almost all of those items before in my previous Birchboxes. I will be choosing the Anastasia pencil since it’s the only item I haven’t received thus far.

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

Hm… I’m not too into the addons this month, and the curated doesn’t appeal to me since it has shampoo, which I rarely use. (I have curly hair and use a cleansing conditioner.) I just got the Dr. Brandt cleanser in my August box, and I don’t need a brow pencil, so I’m going with the eyeshadow trio, which actually has some colors I’ve been looking for.

Reply ButtonReply

Ooh. It’s gonna be hard choosing my sample this month.

And as someone who purchased the La Mer Necklace last night, let me advise against picking it up. It looked so chic on Lorelei last month, but up close it feels kind of cheap. I can find use for it, but it was kind of disappointing nevertheless.
