Beauty Fix Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Info

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included with pictures.

Beauty Fix Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Caviar

Alterna Caviar Clinical Daily Densifying Foam – FULL SIZE! Value $36

I love Alterna haircare products, so I was already excited for this box when I saw the spoilers. (So happy this is full-size!). I love the scent of every Alterna product I’ve tried, plus they are free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, etc. This foam/mousse is designed to give hair more volume and look fuller/denser. It is also supposed to help prevent hair fallout due to breakage. I just tried it so I can’t comment on the long term hair breakage prevention, but I really like the volume it adds. The formula isn’t sticky at all either!

Keranique Volumizing Keratin Conditioner – 1 oz Value $3.75

Keranique Scalp Stimulating Shampoo – 1 oz Value $3.75

(Good to know for swapping – these have foil seals). This shampoo is designed to “promote micro-circulation to stimulate healthy follicles,” and the conditioner is designed to repair split ends and decrease breakage. I’ve sampled the shampoo before, and it seemed fine, but nothing special enough for me to order the full-size version

Beauty Fix Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Clear

Paula’s Choice Daily Skin Clearing Treatment – FULL SIZE! Value $17

(Another foil-sealed item). This is a blemish spot treatment that leaves skin with a matte finish. Given that it’s just a spot treatment, I’m impressed with the size of the tube. I think it would last a while!

Medicell Redness Relief Hydrating Cream – FULL SIZE! Value $60

(Box sealed, with plastic insert in nozzle). This moisturizer is paraben and fragrance free, and designed to soothe and conceal redness. I tried it out and found the formula to be very gentle and lightweight. I’m guessing this will be a popular item with subscribers whether or not they have red skin concerns.

Beauty Fix Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Smart Eye

Patchology Exfoliate FlashMasque – Value $6.25

My Patchology mask collection grows! This one has lactic acid in the formula to aid with exfoliation.

SmartFX Smart Eye Wrinkle Lift – FULL SIZE! Value $30

I am really impressed with this product – I could actually tell a difference in the lines under my eyes after it was on for about 20 seconds. (This is a temporary effect, though – not permanent!)  I don’t consider this much of a concealer though – it really didn’t provide any coverage. I would think of it as more of a tinted product.

And I’m guessing if you don’t need concealer under your eyes this could work on any facial wrinkles.

Beauty Fix Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Bliss

Glytone Step-Up Cleanse – 1 oz Value $4.70

Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash – 1 oz Value $3.60

These are both oil-free cleansers. I’ll be saving these for my travel cosmetic bag!

Verdict: I think this box is such an improvement over the July box in terms of value and product size. (The value is about $165!) I’ll use almost everything, and the Caviar Hair Foam, Medicell Hydrating Cream, and Smart Eye Wrinkle Lift are my favorite discoveries so far.

  1. I thought I usually got two or three extra sample packets from Dermstore with my BeautyFix but I didn’t get any this month. Do I have a faulty memory or has this changed?

  2. DermStore has a new Anti-Aging Grab Bag available for $20. I just received mine. Inside were:

Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Sea Silk Oil Gel – Full Size
BrioGeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask – Full Size
    Phyto phytolisse Ultra-smoothing serum – Sample 0.16 Fl.oz.
DermaNew Cleansing Cream for Sensitive Skin – Full Size
    NYX “Be Free” makeup palette

    • This doesn’t seem to fit the theme.

      • I agree. I was expecting anti-aging skincare products. But still a good value. The hair conditioning mask is really wonderful. I just used it and it made my thick, coarse & wavy hair very soft with loose, frizz-free curls.

  3. Can anyone tell me how they ship beauty fix please.
is it by fedex. ups or post?
just trying to figure out when my package will arrive.
    thank you

    • I’m pretty sure it comes via USPS because I always find it in my mailbox. I believe the Post office is the only entity entitled to place something in those boxes. In my experience, by the time I receive a shipping notice it has already arrived.

      • Thank you Claudia.
i stopped getting online tracking updates about 3 days ago so i was just wondering what was happening

  4. I LOVED this box. My favorite out of all my makeup/skincare boxes.

My Medicell Redness Relief Hydrating Cream has a really unusual scent. It smells like oil that’s gone rancid. Before I raise up the hue and cry, do all of them have an unusual scent?

    • Hi!

Mine has the same problem…it’s unbearable. I emailed the company about this issue. Will let you know if I hear anything. Otherwise, I cannot use. Still smell on my hand an hour later! Ugh.

      • Mine is slightly yellowed and almost “chunky” but that’s not quite the right word… I’m not sure if that’s normal or if it’s expired? Did you find out anything??

    • Mine smells the same way

  5. I had been debating on signing up for this one, but when I saw the 50% off it was a done deal…not that I need any other subs!!!!!!

PS- who else out there stalks the mailman hoping that one of your boxes will come that day 🙂

  6. I’m sold, definitely signing up this month. I love skincare items and this box us such a great deal 🙂

Earlier I posted that the $12.48 was for a subscription. WRONG. I place an order earlier today and just reviewed my order AND called DermStore’s customer service. The promo offer cost of $12.48 is for the August (my first box) BeautyFix box and then will go back to the regular rates if I choose to subscribe. Still a great deal. I sincerely apologize for an earlier post that was wrong & for any inconvenience it may have caused anyone.

  8. I’ll be the odd man out and say I don’t care for this box either. The Medicell moisturizer is not really a $60 value since it’s currently on Gilt for $29 which makes me think this line is something which did vendors were unable to move. Also, it has that slightly off odor that moisturizers get when they’re old. The Alterna product is obscure, specific to a certain hair type and I’ve read some reviews which state it flakes and dries hair out with continued use so I won’t even be trying it. The Paula’s Choice product is specific for acne, a problem I don’t have. And the rest are deluxe sample sizes, uninspiring ones at that.

I think it’s time for me to cancel this subscription. I haven’t been wowed by a box in a long time. I honestly feel like the full sized stuff we do get is product Dermstore has been unable to sell and has been hanging around in their warehouse. They’re purging their crap.

  9. im going to cancel allure and get this.
i used to enjoy allure but im tired of getting the same product rotation and ive never received good value for money with Allure.
time for a new beauty fix!

  10. Does anyone know if it’s just half off the first box or every month with a sub?

    • It’s half off the August box, then $24.95 each month thereafter with a continuing sub. If you just want just one box, it’s $34.95.

  11. Wow, I have 234234 beauty products but still had to take the plunge for $13. I like how this is more skin care focused, I feel like I always go through all my skin care products super quickly from Birchbox/Ipsy/BeautyBox5 and then mostly have a million makeup products so hopefully this replenishes my face/hair product needs. Would love to stock up on more toners/dry shampoo/face masks.

  12. THIS BOX IS AMAZING!! I hope I can still get it. Even last month’s was worth way over the current 50% discount. Dropping BB and getting this, stat.

  13. For $13 I’m very tempted. Watched last month’s unboxing on youtube and it was tragic to say the least. But, I could use everything in this box. Love skincare products.

  14. I was disappointed in last month, but after this review, I couldn’t help but order this one! They definitely did bounce back! Thanks Liz for all of your wonderful reviews– love this site and your review style!

  15. Last month was terrible and I almost unsubscribed! I’m glad that I forgot because this month is amazing. The hair care is enough to make me happy. Not sure if I will use the Medicell lotion (put it up for swap) as I really like my current skin care and don’t want to try something else – my skin is terribly temperamental. I’m glad that they improved on the last few months.

  16. HUGE improvement from last month’s box. I actually did cancel after receiving last month’s box, but I just signed up again. Great job Beauty Fix!

  17. Hi Liz!
I have being looking at these reviews for Beauty Fix/Blush Mystery for awhile now, and now I think it is the time to sign up! I was just wondering though, do you know how long the coupon will last for the box being $12.48? Not sure if I should sign up now, or wait until Thursday for my paycheck. Thanks!!

    • I’m not sure how long the promo lasts. It could be until the August boxes sell out?

      • Oh ok, thank you!

  18. Oh so happy that they did not repeat the small sizes they have out last month. I was going to cancel if it happened again!! Excited to try all these new products!!

  19. For $13 this box was amazing!!!! I love skin care and haircare so I was over the moon! Definitely keeping this sub for a while!

  20. Wow this site is bad for my budget. I just ordered this box and both of the Birchbox boxes 🙂 no more spending until Black Friday

  21. BeautyFix almost lost me last month…but I was pleased with everything in this box!

Terri – This and Boxycharm are my favorite subs. They generally have high values and good products. Boxy is definitely more make up and BF is more skincare.

  22. I think this is s great box, but I wish they would have included a make up item. I don’t have any issues with reddness and I already have a ton of moisturiser, so I will be putting the medicell in swap.

  23. Oooh, this box looks good, I just sub’ed! I don’t need the acne-prevention stuff, but my teenager does so we’ll share! 🙂

  24. They really bounced back from last month. Loved all the products this month. Just wanted to comment on what great customer service I received from them, I got charged for two boxes due to their error. They credited my account right away and told me to keep the second box.

  25. I almost canceled thanks to last month, subscribers paid $25 for a box of samples and it was awful. This is SUCH an improvement and exactly why I subscribed months ago for. Let’s stick with it beautyfix!

  26. I was blown away by the contents of this box. So much value and the product discoveries are overwhelming. So happy I joined.

  27. This was an awesome box! Last month was definitely a sad one so I’m glad they came back again. And thank you Liz for listed if the items are sealed, it’s a great piece of info for swaps!

    • Glad to hear it is helpful – I’ll try to remember to do that in all future reviews! 🙂

    • I totally agree. That is a great idea. Thanks!

  28. How do ya’ll feel this sub stacks up to Boxycharm? I’ve had boxy for over a year. Which has the best bang for your buck?

    • BeautyFix is mostly skincare with some hair and a little makeup while BoxyCharm is mostly makeup. I’m more focused on skincare so BeautyFix is my #1 favorite and this August box is amazing! But BoxyCharm is my #2. 🙂

    • Terri, they both have great value. Boxy and this one is the two that I refuse to let go of. Boxy is more makeup, and this one is mostly hair, body and skin care products. Boxy and Beauty Fix *usually* end up with a value ( together) of 230-280 dollars each month, sometimes more.

  29. I have to agree that this is an improvement from last month… I hope last month NEVER REPEATS itself. I am super happy with this box….. This is my favorite subscription and last month scared me because I thought they were on a decline. It’s good to see they’re back. I hope they stay that way.

  30. I think this was one of my favorite boxes from them. I’ve been a subscriber for over a year. I will use every single item! Last month was horrible, but I did find a new hair product line for my curly hair.
