The Book Drop "The Jane" Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Book

I Shall Be Near To You by Erin Lindsay McGabe - Retail Value $14 (On Amazon for $11.17)

Book Summary from Amazon:

An extraordinary novel about a strong-willed woman who disguises herself as a man in order to fight beside her husband in the Civil War.

Rosetta doesn't want her new husband, Jeremiah, to enlist, but he joins up, hoping to make enough money that they'll be able to afford their own farm someday. When Jeremiah leaves, Rosetta decides her true place is by his side, no matter what that means, and follows him into war.

Rich with historical details and inspired by the many women who fought in the Civil War while disguised as men, I Shall Be Near To You is a courageous adventure, a woman's search for meaning and individuality, and a poignant story of enduring love.

The Book Drop "The Jane" Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Flyer

This box also came with an Indie Bound flyer for additional book recommendations.

Verdict: I really like the concept of The Book Drop, and I appreciate the notes and book recommendations. This is a book I normally would never have picked up on my own, but now that I have it in my hands and see all the great reviews on Amazon, I'm excited to give it a try!

I would recommend this box if you're looking to get a book recommendation each month that may or may not push you out of your reading comfort zone - but I wouldn't recommend this box if you are looking for a good value.

What do you think of The Book Drop?

I couldn’t hold out anymore, I subscribed. For me, the price is well worth it – I’m not in the market for the cheapest books one can buy.

That is a seriously disappointing value. I appreciate the work and care that goes into book subs, but they always seem like such a ripoff…
