I have subscribed to the Indiespensable box for about 3 years now, and I’d like to caution new subscribers that this box has fallen way, way off in terms of quality. Their boxes used to ship every 6 weeks and now they come every 10-14 weeks. They also do not communicate with you when boxes ship or if there will be a delay. It appears that they are having trouble keeping up with demand. I’m hoping that since they are opening up to new subscribers it will mean an improvement in their boxes – hopefully they will get closer to the way they used to be!

Just to clarify – our understanding of the email that Powell’s sent was this: all new subscribers (who were supposed to begin their subs with #53) will have their first shipment begin with the #54 installment. They are offering a little something extra to the new subscribers (whose first shipment that will be) as a way of apologizing for the delay (which was completely out of their hands).

I actually received an email for the last box stating that, due to the previously mentioned shipping error, I will not actually receive a box at all. I was informed that they will start shipping to me in August. I was a new subscriber, so I assume when they had a loss/damage to their shipment they cancelled people like me first and scrambled to make sure people who have had the subscription for some time now do not end up with a blank space on their shelf.
I completely get where they are coming from. I respect it. (I also don’t like it! But there isn’t anything to be done for it.) I am glad for those of you who did get the box!!! Enjoy it 😀

Its really not good customer service. never received a box & didn’t even get an e-mail on top of it. The charge is still on my card. They could have at least sent us something as a sorry with messed up….or have the author sign more books for their big mess up. Go to Powell’s a lot so disappointed in them after this. They had better not charge me in August for the August box. Not paying double for one box.

Ditto! Just glad to have gotten in on the sub at all and to be expecting a shipment any time is a happy thing with this one!! For book lovers, it’s worth the wait 🙂

Woo hoo! I’ve been waiting for these to open up and am glad i saw this post early on. I had been thinking about the FFF subscription, but i really don’t need any of that and love books, so my mind thanks this MSA, though my wallet may not.

Did any current subscribers receive any explanation for why the last installment took 3 months to ship rather than 6 weeks? I never received any notification or updates about the delay. Just curious if they are switching to quarterly shipments or not.

No, there was never an explanation. We got two books this time and the last so I don’t mind too much.

New subscribers were pushed back last time due to a shipping problem. I assume that is also why the shipments went out late

The shipment that was due in July was pushed back until early August due to a shipping accident. They did send emails out (maybe in your spam folder).

I received the shipment #53 last Friday but there was no letter in the box. I check my spam folder daily and haven’t received anything explaining the delay — only the confirmation that I had been charged for this shipment and that it had shipped. I’m not complaining (very happy with this sub), just wondering if anyone else was receiving any communication/updates about the shipping schedule. I now see the website says the #54 installment ships Aug 20. so I guess they aren’t switching to quarterly shipments.
