Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – July 2015 Box

Julep Maven is a monthly nail polish and beauty subscription box. They make all their own products, so subscribers get a good value each month – over $40 retail worth of product for $24.99 a month.

Each month Julep releases a new collection on the 20th, and you can decide which box you want, you can upgrade to the entire collection, or you can skip that month.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – July 2015 Oil

It's Fun to Exfoliate Body Konjac Sponge - Value $16 (I added this to my box this month for an extra cost)

Rethink Your Shower Hydrating Body Cleansing Oil - Value $38

These were the products I was most excited to try this month! I've used konjac sponges before for cleansing my face, but I haven't tried a body version before. This one comes with a hook for hanging in the shower, and the material is extremely gentle - basically you get a light exfoliation without feeling like you are exfoliating anything. The cleansing oil was a nice surprise for me too - it has a light citrus scent that I love. It doesn't happen often, but thanks to Julep I now have a new part to add to my shower routine!

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – July 2015 Nail Polish

Julep Nail Color in Alexa - Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Brittany - Value $14

I decided to go with pastel colors this month. The Brittany is my favorite - I love a pale pink creme!

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – July 2015 Cuticle

Your Cuticles Look Thirsty Fast-Absorbing Cuticle Creme - Value $20

(This is another add-on I picked for July - not part of the monthly subscription cost).

This cuticle cream has a pretty fragrant scent, but fortunately it fades somewhat quickly. And it does the job of moisturizing cuticles and absorbing quickly, so I'm happy with this add on purchase.

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – July 2015 Candy

This box also came with some candy, and a coupon for $15 off your next order of $30 or more with coupon code ALLYOURS.

Verdict: This is one of my favorite Julep boxes in a while. I love the shower cleansing oil, and I'm glad I added on the Konjac Body Sponge. (I'll have to pick up a few more of those next time the have a sale). What do you think of the July 2015 Julep Maven selections? Which items did you pick this month?

I am interested in trying out this subscription. The problem is when I received this sample and used it, the polish cracked and flaked within a day. If you use the base and top coat from this company does it last longer?

The string for hanging my konjac sponge broke the first time I used it. I thought that was a bit of a let down. Other than that, I was pleased with it.

The one thing I haven’t tried is the sponge & facial oil. I have oily skin/sensitive skin & I’m nervous about the sponge being too abrasive or the oil making me break out- has anyone else experienced that???

I suffer from sensitive combination skin and I did not find the face sponge to be too abrasive at all. Once you wet the sponge it is pretty soft (I actually didn’t find the sponge to exfoliate at all, if it does it is a very light/gentle exfoliator). I still used a more abrasive scrub once a week to exfoliate. As for the face oil, I liked it and it worked for about a month or so on me.. then I noticed it was clogging my pores pretty badly. Once I stopped using the face oil my skin cleared up within a few days.

I have redness prone sensitive, often very oily, acne prone AND severe dry skin patches. Sometimes all at once. Talk about luck! ; )
I haven’t tried the sponge but I love the oil. Not only is it light and non-clogging and non-irritating, but it does a pretty good job of removing most makeup, even the longer lasting stuff. I use it 1st then a cleanser if I am wearing makeup. If not, but my skin is feeling irritated I use it in place of my cleanser.
It’s also GREAT for washing your hands after using sticky hair products that plain soap doesn’t completely wash off.
My one complaint is that the dispenser is designed very poorly. Unless they have redesigned it, the spout is too short so it leaks onto the bottle every time you use it unless you pick it up and position it carefully. But I have tried quite a few cleansing/makeup removing oils, balms, and lotions so I am willing to put up with that one con in light of all the pros.

I was thinking about skipping this month because I have so many nail polishes now thanks to Julep but this month’s collections & add ons were too good!! Also, julep has an amazing customer service dept. & the 2 times I’ve had issues, they were so great about taking care of them! That alone will probably keep me as a customer for a long time!!

That’s good to hear since their customer service track record is pretty atrocious. I’ve been with them since 2012 (and stay since I’m grandfathered in at $20/month and have unlimited skips) and have had mixed CS experiences, usually related to being improperly charged after skipping and being ignored when I asked for assistance. Hopefully they’re trending in the right direction.

I went with the modern beauty box this month to try the body oil & sponge combo. I got an email that they made a mistake and included the cuticle cream instead – but to keep it and they were shipping the sponge separate… bonus for me since I was thinking about the cuticle cream anyhow. I added the Chili Jelly polish and Juliana too.

I chose the same, and I got the same email. However, I had already ordered the cuticle cream as an add-on! I wonder do I get 2 now? Hmm.

I’m thinking of getting this as a gift for my mom. She’s only interested in polish though, not beauty items – would this be a good fit? Can you opt for more polish instead of the beauty extras each month? She’s also in Canada, does the Canadian program work similarly?

Nichole:

Yes, you can choose to get all polishes. Each month you are curated a certain box based on the initial profile you set up (or you set up for her), which includes a polish only option. The best part is there are several collections offered each month and most consist of items (polish or beauty) you can swap out for another color polish or a nail tool/accessory or beauty product(s) in your scheduled collection so you get many more choices than almost any sub box. Plus, you can “add on” up to 6 polishes and/or beauty items at deeply discounted prices each month. You even have the option to skip the box each month. I cancelled for a while as my polish collection is shamefully huge now but I know they have some fantastic beauty products (ex. their pencil eyeliners and oil face cleanser) and they keep adding/expanding their products constantly. Fast, friendly customer service too. Had no problems cancelling via email despite their policy of asking you to call. Hope this helps! : )

This is another one I canceled, I have too much nail polish to use up right now, but I did like it. Canceling was a hassle though, I wish all subs would just let you cancel on their website.

I didn’t get the Konjac sponge, but now I’m thinking maybe I should have!

I did completely customize my box and got six add-ons, so I got tons of new goodies to try. I got both of those nail polish colors plus several others, and I love them all.

Now I SO wish I had gotten the whole shabang! I was so on the fence about the body wash and the cuticle cream…but wish this hood review, yea…coulda woulda shoulda…Maybe I’ll use one of my million coupons I let expire every month! Lol

With the exception of last summer’s Body Milk and Body Polish, I’m usually not a big fan of Julep’s bath/body products. I was completely shocked at how much I loved the new body sponge and shower oil. (Like Jennifer, I have a Clarisonic as well so I’d never tried the face sponge.) It was a nice surprise to be surprised – and I’ll also be grabbing a few body sponges when they go on sale in the future.

I was a little underwhelmed at the cuticle cream. Especially for the price. But Fortune Cookie Soap has ruined me for other brands on that… Julep’s new packaging for the cuticle cream (and the shower oil) is cute though!

I love my Konjac facial sponge (so much so I bought another when the original was 3 months old, as recommended) so am definitely looking forward to the body-sized one.

Jennifer (@TearApache)

I had never tried the original Konjac face sponge. I have a clarisonic. I was excited about the body sponge, however, and picked it as one of my items. I will be adding another sponge to my box next month!! The konjac sponge feels gentle, yet invigorating where my other exfoliating tools feel abrasive.
