Golden Tote $49 Tote Review – July 2015 Bag

Golden Tote is one of my favorite monthly packages – and I think a good deal of my wardrobe is now from Golden Tote items!

If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month you get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. (The surprise items are completely different from the pieces you pick from).

FYI – This is not a typical subscription, each month they release a new collection and you can decide whether or not you want to buy it. For returns it’s an all-or-nothing deal. You can return the entire tote for a refund, but you can’t return individual pieces.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

(FYI – I also paid for expedited 2-day shipping).

Golden Tote $49 Tote Review – July 2015 Skirt

Classic Denim Skirt - Value $35

(98% Cotton, 2% Spandex. Machine wash cold, hang dry).

This was my pick for the $49 tote and I'm happy with my selection. This is a great basic piece I'll wear a lot, and the length hits at about 4 inches above my knee.

FYI - this item is still available in the $49 tote.

Golden Tote $49 Tote Review – July 2015 Top

Very J Blouse - Value $30?

(100% Cotton, Lace Back: 85% Cotton, 15% Polyester. Machine wash cold, hang dry).

This is my surprise item for the month. (I realize now I should have steamed it a bit before taking the picture - sorry for the wrinkles!) It's made with 100% cotton though, so I'm hoping it won't wrinkle like that just from wearing it.

My favorite part of this top is that you can tie it in the back for the perfect fit:

The lace back is cute too.

Verdict: I'm happy with my $49 tote this month. The skirt is a perfect fit, so I'm thrilled with that selection, and hopefully the shirt is just wrinkled from shipment.

What did you pick from Golden Tote this month? Any good surprise items?

I agree with a few of the other comments on here about the style profiles, etc. I felt like I had the wrong tote, as if it belonged to someone else…right down to the preference of colors. The only color I picked that I would not wear is orange…guess what I got, an ORANGE dress. It was completely not for my age group either…oh well.

Liz – did you get the large tote this month? Curious to see what came in your tote! This was my first time ordering with GT and besides my chosen items, I really didn’t care for any of the surprises. I specifically asked for certain things to not be included (anything midi length, anything that is cropped ect) and that is exactly what I got. Luckily I was able to trade majority of the items. Curious how I can make this work for me? Are there any secrets to inputting information so the stylist knows what you like and don’t like? I feel like the categories are so broad….

I did get a large tote – the review should be up today or tomorrow at the latest! The only thing I can think of to do differently would be to put specific text at the very end of the style profile with likes and dislikes. Maybe that will help? Sorry that they didn’t fit your style profile this time 🙁

I just got my large tote yesterday, and it’s going back. I think Golden Tote and I have to part ways — either I just don’t have the right body type to wear their clothes or I’m not communicating my needs and preferences well enough for them to pick appropriate items for me. If I were 30 lbs lighter and 20 years younger this tote would have hit it out of the park for me, but alas, wishing doesn’t make it so.

I ordered the same but I got a maxi by Chris and Carol that I asked for!

How do you wear a bra with a lace back like that??

Erin

I prefer to wear a backless bra, the kind with self adhesive cups that clasp together in the front. They’re perfect for shirts like this (and anything with thin straps, strapless, backless….) You can buy them pretty much everywhere, from Walmart to Target and they’re less bulky than layering over something else, though that can work as well. I prefer to let the lace be the statement detail since it can lose the effect when worn over another shirt.

Easy! Use your nippies from the Zoe box! 😉

By making the bra part of the outfit. If it looks like your bra is showing on purpose it’s working. I personally wouldn’t wear the look but I see alot of girls wearing tops like this with a bold neon colored bra. Or you could wear a camisole or undershirt.

Super cute items! I ended up sending back my tote yesterday. I chose the Leopard Maxi and the Puella High-Low dress. For my surprises, I got a colorful tank from Flying Tomato, the Pink Owl Shift dress that Liz got a few months back but in ivory, a Potters Pot top that was blue in the front but plaid back, and a Chris & Carol hooded tank. The dresses (except for the Puella) didn’t fit my hips and the Potters Pot top was dry clean only. I’m giving GoldenTote a break now I think.

Let’s hope that these two mostly cotton items are the beginning of Golden Tote getting rid of all of the polyester and rayon. I may actually purchase from them again if this continues.

Same. I prefer all natural fabrics for my clothes. Not only are they more comfortable, they last longer and are much less fussy to take care of.

Agreed, I won’t try Golden Tote until they drop the dependency on rayon and polyester.
