Birchbox Beachy + Bright Box Review – July 2015 Box

Birchbox lets subscribers pick between a curated box (all samples revealed) or a single sample choice and be surprised by the rest of the items. This box is the curated box selection for July. (I think the curated boxes ship earlier than the sample choice boxes).

Birchbox Beachy + Bright Box Review – July 2015 Info

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included and some tips on how to use them.

Birchbox Beachy + Bright Box Review – July 2015 Oribe

Juara Radiance Enzyme Scrub - .27 oz Value $4

I like this scrub! It has a fresh scent, and the exfoliating beads are very fine, so it is pretty gentle.

Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray - 1 oz Value $10

This spray adds some texture and it smells fabulous. (One of the reviewers on Birchbox described this spray as overpriced hair perfume!)

Birchbox Beachy + Bright Box Review – July 2015 Supergoop

Supergoop! Anti-Aging City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30 - 10 ml Value $8.75

This serum is lightweight and absorbs quickly. It also doesn't seem to have any scent to it - a plus for me with all skincare items.

Birchbox Beachy + Bright Box Review – July 2015 Stila

theBalm Cosmetics Balm Desert Bronzer/Blush - .028 oz Value $2.60

theBalm samples are pretty tiny, but their packaging is so cute that I'm OK with it! This bronzer has a beautiful matte finish, and the colors work well with my skin tone. I may end up buying this in full-size. (Swatched below).

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Bella - .05 oz Value $11

All Birchbox subscribers are getting this Liquid Lipstick for July. (If you went with the sample choice instead of the curated box, you got to pick which shade you wanted).

The pigment in this formula is insane. Be very careful applying it - because it takes a serious effort to remove it if you make any mistakes! The finish is matte, and it's a very bold color. Here is a swatch:

Verdict: This box has a value of about $36. I'm happy with the value and the sample sizes. (Of course I sort of knew I would be before I even received the box since you get to see all the items in the curated box up front). I'll use everything (maybe not the liquid lipstick that often though - it's a little too bold for me!)

What do you think of the Beachy + Bright curated Birchbox for July? What did you get in your Birchbox this month?

Hello! I was wondering if you could tell me how the curated boxes work? Does the option come up when you order or do you need to go to a different link?

Once you are a subscriber, you’ll get an email each month to pick a sample of your choice, or to pick the curated box for that month. Hope that helps!

I picked the curated box on my primary account and just my luck my year’s subscription ended so I had to purchase another one before they could send out my box. I purchased another year’s sub and said I would still get my sample choice but I just checked the link and I’m getting something different. I’m getting the Balm bronzer, stila lipstick, 2 hair products and Coola setting spray that’s the sample choice for August. I’m very tired of these hair product boxes, the last two months on both accounts have had too much hair stuff for me. I’m excited about the Coola setting spray though, so that works out for me.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the Birchbox add on selections to arrive? I ordered the water bottle, Turkish towel and sunglasses but they did not come with my monthly Birchbox. Thanks.

Betty

I received an email saying mine was shipping separately, smh, never happened before, just aggravated Inordered 3 items & they didn’t tell me when they would ship

Betty

Meant I ordered , auto text

liddybug

They come with your Birchbox. I ordered the sunglasses and they were in my July Birchbox. Email Birchbox about your missing add ons. They will probably give you a bunch of points if the products aren’t available anymore.

True, then, just a preference. I never like to see heavy lipstick, even on the red carpet, maybe because I’m sensory challenged and I’d hate the feel of it. Funny! I’m sure it does beat reapplying tinted balm, which I do many many times a day.

Just tried the Stila Venezia and it is bold but very flattering. I just dab a few small dots on my lips and rub in with my fingers and then add gloss or lip balm on top. It is not as bold but looks great. I tried putting it on like regular lip gloss and it was way too bright. Hope this helps if you were planning to trash it.

Totally! Thanks!!!

Does anyone know more information about the liquid eyeliner that we were supposed to get last month but it was backordered or something so we didn’t get it in our boxes. Wasn’t it supposed to come this month?

Reply ButtonReply

liddybug

They never promised a particular month they just said it will be in a future box. Some people were speculating that it would be in the July box but Birchbox never said that.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole

Thank you for clarifying! I lost the email that gave the information!

You really do have to be in your twenties to wear colors like that, or younger. I think everyone looks better in natural colors. Even people with young, beautiful faces.

I’m 48 and I love bright, bold, fun colors!
A nice lip can be extremely flattering. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

Nu-Uh. I’m 39 and I rock that bold color!

Reply ButtonReply

Lindsey

I am in my 20’s and I loathe the red and pink options they have, I looked like the joker with the red lips on….aweful

Reply ButtonReply

Misty

I’m 46 and mostly wear neutral colors, but I think it’s fun to wear brighter colors some. When I do I keep my other makeup minimal with just a light BB cream, mascara, and pale blush. I think it can work for most people if you’re keep your other makeup minimal. It can be a striking but classic look!

I’m a 37 year old wife and mom of 2 and I look great in bright colors. I loved the Bella hot pink shade.

I love that they let members purchase this one separately so I get two boxes on the same account! AND that means two lip colors!! LOVE IT!

I thought my box was on its way. Apparently it was delivered to Peachtree, GA in 10/14. I’ll be sending them an email about the tracking number if it does not show up tomorrow.

Reply ButtonReply

Randi

I had the same thing with mine… I was so confused at first bc this was only my second box. But then I looked at date and it was some time last year, it went to Maryland.

Reply ButtonReply

Misty

Interesting….when I check my tracking, it says “package 1” was sent to LaFayette, NY on 10/17/14 and then “package 2” is in transit to my house with current dates….? It seems like my tracking number for this box has been used before???

Reply ButtonReply

Krista

They re use tracking numbers. A lot of people do it.

Laurie

Me too – one of my boxes appears to have a recycled number. Weird.

Christy

For the first time ever, I’m getting a sample that I’ve already received (I’ve been a member for a little over a year). It’s an awesome sample, but I can’t review it because I already have. Does anyone know what I can do about this? Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

liddybug

Try emailing Birchbox. They will probably give you points or an extra sample.

Cant WAIT For this box! Have 2 accounts – one gets a “curated” box and the other is my “surprise” box. Cant wait for both this month!

For everyone whining about not knowing how to apply a VERY SPECIFIED type of lip product, please to see below. Google works. 😉

https://www.birchbox.com/magazine/video/how-to-apply-liquid-lipstick-stila

There are VERY detailed steps to achieving perfection. I am frankly frustrated when amazing products are badly reviewed DUE TO USER ERROR! Yes, Im dogging other women out. Sorry but its amazing if done right and no the colors arent “the best” but that is WHY I love makeup samples! I could see myself with an all black jumpsuit, hair done up 80’s style Jacked to Jesus, tons of yellow gold jewelry and this hot pink lip stain. Its not like its an “every day look” for most people??

Reply ButtonReply

Krista

The color is gorgeous, I completely agree 🙂

You can’t make everyone happy no matter what you do. Haters gonna hate 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

liddybug

Totally agree. The hot pink looks amazing on. I had 4 random women stop me over the weekend to rave about the color and ask what it was. This product is NOT meant to just be slapped on like normal lipstick.

Reply ButtonReply

Lauren

I chose the same curated box and love it! The lipstick is really bright – I don’t think I could wear this on my lips, but it works great as a cheek stain! I also tried the NYX vamped

Reply ButtonReply

Lauren

Oops got cut off… I tried the NYX vamped up lip stuff over the bright pink gloss and it turned it into a dark burgundy color that will look good in the fall.

Reply ButtonReply

PA Anna

I did not select the curated box. My box is on its way. I’m curious what the lipstick will look on me. I’ve been surprised by colors that I would never tried except for the fact it came in a sub box. I’m leaning towards it being too bright, but I am willing to give it a try.

Reply ButtonReply

Amber

They should have really put a warning on that lipstick or the card! I know it’s a stain, but when I put it on I was so shocked by the color I used my fingers to try to help “blend”, and I ended up with hot pink stained fingers. I ended up having to use my old whitening toothpaste trick to get it off. Into the trash it went, was disappointed especially for something that EVERYONE had to get.

Reply ButtonReply

Jocelyn

Coconut oil or Vaseline takes it off instantly with no scrubbing. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Desiree

I chose the curated box as well. Love everything but that super bright insanely hideous lipstick. Wowzers! That’s insane! My kids laughed at me when I tried it on. Another bright lipstick in the trash!

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

I love my entire box this month. I am in love with the Stila lip cream. I got it in the hot pink and I can’t wait to wear it out some place. I informed my husband he is taking me some place fabulous so I can wear it 🙂 The staying power is amazing and I really like the way it feels. I think I’m going to buy the little set of three with the lip case they have online at BB. I’ve found that the best way to wear bold lips like this without looking like a clown is to seriously minimize all other makeup. I do a very light foundation. Mascara and barely there blush. I can’t wait to try and Oribe product. I also got Whish Body Butter in Blueberry. I have it in Lavender scent and really like it so I know I’ll use it. The Bomb Bronzer is meh for me, so tiny can’t figure out how to apply with a bronzer brush plus, I have so many bronzers from subs I don’t need any more.

Reply ButtonReply

Christina

I got this box and used the spray the last two days. Both days I’ve had amazing hair days. My hair is wavy and beachy without the frizzy crunchy look you can get from some beach sprays. I use a lot of beach sprays and this one might be my new favorite.

Reply ButtonReply

Mary

I like the beach spray — my hair is longish and naturally wavy so this gives me an instant look without much effort and the fragrance is yummy. I agree about the Balm — their minis are so cute I don’t mind the size, although it’s hard to get a big brush to scoop up enough of the bronzer out, lol. It leans too warm for my complexion, so I use it as a crease shade on my eyes and it works nicely. The lipstick — what can I say? The liquid matte lipstick craze is hot ‘n heavy right now — some get it right (TooFaced, NYX), some don’t (Stila).

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

Add me to the lipstick haters. I guess I need to watch the video if I try and use it again. It is way too pink for me. It dried very unevenly too or wore off, I couldn’t tell the different. I was frantically applying lip gloss all the way to work so I would not look like a clown.

The shine spray smelled good, but I didn’t see any difference in my dry, curly hair.

Haven’t tried anything else yet, but I can never have too much scrub and sunscreen products. At least, I didn’t get perfume, that is why I picked this box

Reply ButtonReply

Ellen

I got this same box and I love it!

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

My husband said the pink lips looked like a little kid or an old lady.

I have a weird question. I’ve been a subscriber to Birchbox for a while. I always get the sample choice email each month but not to receive the curated versus the other box. Can someone please help? I’m not an ACE if that matters. Thanks!!

Reply ButtonReply

liddybug

You don’t have to be an ACE. ACE members just get their email a day early is all.

Reply ButtonReply

liddybug

The option to pick the curated box is in the same pull down menu as the sample choice. It says sample a b c d OR curated.

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

My boxes haven’t come yet. I got the other two colors because (1) I can never have enough red and (2) I already have a couple of hot pink lipsticks.

I got the Juara sample in last month’s box. It was good, but I think I like the Vasanti BrightenUp! better. I know both of my boxes have shipped so I hope they come before the 20th when I move.

Reply ButtonReply

Tamara

I came really close to getting this box. I mean – Oribe!! But I really don’t need a bronzer and I don’t like that color lippie for me.

Does that scrub have microbeads in it?

Reply ButtonReply

Jocelyn

I was excited to get this as an add on to my monthly BB except my random samples included the same supergoop and oribe.

I think I’m the only person on the planet who hates oribe’s scent. If you like it and ever use those wax warmer things it’s almost identical to the honeymoon hideaway scent by Scentsy.

The reason I hate it is because it’s also identical to the scent Raid adds to their ant spray so I feel like I smell like bug spray all day long. I can’t get the connection out of my head to enjoy the scent. 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

LS

I returned a Wallflower scent to B&BW because it reminded me of the floral scent in Raid. Every time I walked in the room, I started looking for a roach. No good!

I would love to buy or swap your oribe if you want! My email is mcbride_mcdevitt @ yahoo.com
