Beauty Box 5 Review – July 2015 Box

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. It’s also one of the cheapest beauty subscription boxes – only $8.25 a month with an annual subscription. They tend to feature drugstore brands, and usually the product sizes are deluxe or sample size. (Sometimes they still send out the dreaded foil packets though).

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Beauty Box 5 Review – July 2015 Tattoo

Pur-Lisse Flash Tattoos - Retail Value $9

I've received these Pur-Lisse flash tattoos in a subscription box, but I don't think Pur-lisse actually sells them. (I guess they just made them for bonus gifts and/or subscription boxes).

Since this has to be the 20th set of flash tattoos I've received in a box, maybe the subscription box world is trying to tell me it is time to actually try them!

Beauty Box 5 Review – July 2015 Polish

Nanacoco Nail Polish in Hope of Spring - Value $3

Love Life Skin Foil Packet Collection (2 ml Restorative Night Cream total, 2 ml Intensive Recovery Serum) - Value $1.50

Beauty Box 5 features Nanacoco frequently in their boxes - but I have no complaints about getting a full-size nail polish in a mermaid-y hue!

The foil skincare packets are disappointing, though - definitely not enough product to test out if the product is effective.

Beauty Box 5 Review – July 2015 Liner

OFRA Lip Liner in Baby Doll - FULL SIZE! Value $13

OFRA Lip Gloss in Apricot Dream - FULL SIZE! Value $13

I've sampled the OFRA brand before and I like it - and I was very impressed to see two full-sized lip products in this box! The colors compliment each other but don't match. The lip liner is a very wearable shade for me, and the lip gloss provides a good amount of shimmer and shine, but not much color. Here are the swatches:

Beauty Box 5 Review – July 2015 Swatch

Verdict: This is one of the better Beauty Box 5 boxes I've received in a while. The value is about $39, and I'm impressed with the amount of full-sized items in the box. I haven't been to happy with the brands/sample sizes from Beauty Box lately, so I hope this box is a step in the right direction and it continues with future boxes!

What do you think of the July Beauty Box 5 box?

I love all the Ofra products I’ve tried so far, but the lip pencil and the gloss I got in July were not good colors for me. I got a neon gloss. It was still fun to try. I’ve gotten some great Ofra stuff in ipsy and other places though. I love their pink blush and blue eyeliner I’ve tried.

I really don’t smile when I see foil packets, but I have decided to save the ones I’d like to try for when I have time to take my time and enjoy a special treat. That makes it more fun for me. I did have an unpleasant surprise with a sample earlier this year that came in packs from bb5. I believe it was a mineral clay or sea product. It included a face scrub, moisturizer and body lotion. I used the face scrub in the shower and found the scent a bit strong but continued with the face moisturizer, and it was so strong I opted not to continue with the body lotion and put that in the giveaway pile! Ew! Next time I will sniff first. 😉 I am saving the July packets in my little “spa box” for an eventual treat! Hopefully it will be a treat.

Does anyone know how you actually cancel a sub before it renews? I subbed last August with a yearly sub, and I’ve sent three emails asking to cancel, but haven’t heard anything from them at all, not even an automated ‘we received your email… Three days… Blahblahblah’ thing. I can’t afford to pay for another years subscription, and since they don’t have accounts I can’t log in and cancel, or even just change my card info.

I didn’t realize it would be so difficult! I need to know this too. If they are not responding in time, you will need to contact your cc co and tell them to cancel the payment for you.

Love Life Skin packets… Although they were small samples, they did send 4. I had just returned from a few days at the beach and had some delicate over tanned flesh on my neck, shoulders, and chest… One packet on the left, one packet on the right. All better. There was relief instantly with the application and it continued. I still have the other two. I am saving them for a crispy day.

Pur-Lisse + Flash Tattoos in one item!?

You know this had to happen eventually! Awesome!

Liz, while I still don’t love foil packets, I have discovered that if I use a stick pin to poke a hole in just the front side of the foil packet, I can squeeze out product to use and the rest doesn’t dry out, so I usually can get 3-6 uses out of a foil packet.

I don’t trust Beauty Box Five and wouldn’t subscribe again. Plus Little Lace Box sent out an Ofra filled pouch last month, and it sells for only $10 (see review by clicking on my name).

BUT, my daughters just found out that BB5 boxes are great for turning into functional suitcases for 18″ dolls. Just cover them with fabric, make a handle and your dolls are all set to accompany you in your next trip. They’re a good size for a couple of changes of clothing too 🙂

I finished my yearly subscription in June. I opted out of renewing. If they continue on this path, I will have to sign up for another year. I will wait for your next review to decide.

Agree the Ofra products are great! Only $8.25 per month with an annual subscription? That’s a deal!
