Uppercase YA Book Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Book

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh - Retail Value $17.99 (On Amazon for $12.78)

I've read such good things about this book, and it's been in my Amazon cart for a while, so I was thrilled to see it was the book for June! Here is the book summary from Amazon:

A sumptuous and epically told love story inspired by A Thousand and One Nights

Every dawn brings horror to a different family in a land ruled by a killer. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, takes a new bride each night only to have her executed at sunrise. So it is a suspicious surprise when sixteen-year-old Shahrzad volunteers to marry Khalid. But she does so with a clever plan to stay alive and exact revenge on the Caliph for the murder of her best friend and countless other girls. Shazi’s wit and will, indeed, get her through to the dawn that no others have seen, but with a catch . . . she’s falling in love with the very boy who killed her dearest friend.

She discovers that the murderous boy-king is not all that he seems and neither are the deaths of so many girls. Shazi is determined to uncover the reason for the murders and to break the cycle once and for all.

Uppercase YA Book Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Sticker

This book also comes with a signed bookplate sticker and an Uppercase sticker! (I like their new logo!)

Uppercase YA Book Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Scarf

Book Cover Inspired Scarf - Value ?

I'm not sure of the value on this scarf - but I think it is such a unique bookish item for a book subscription box!

Uppercase YA Book Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Tote

Bookiemoji Tote and Stickers - Value $15?

I love a cute bookish tote, and this one is fun - plus I like the book in the bottom right corner holding the uppercase logo - adorable!

Verdict: I really enjoy my Uppercase box subscription. I think Lisa does an amazing job at curating the box and picking out great books each month, and I think the bookish extras keep getting better. If you're looking for a great YA subscription box and appreciate the extras that add to the value - I recommend it!

This was my first box for uppercase. I use MySubcriptionAddiction for lots of research on what boxes I think would be good for me (and my boyfriend, and our cats…) and I bet lots of other people do to.
I’ve noticed that some reviews don’t have accurate values or are not being researched enough. They sell that tote (version slightly different with the tote handles closer together than the one online) for $22. So I probably would’ve given that price, considering they gave us stickers as well. I love seeing that I’m getting a great value overall for my money so the dollar values can be important to some readers.

Hi Victoria,

Thanks for the feedback! I always try to get accurate values for items, but sometimes if it seems like an item was made exclusively for a box, I have to guess. I saw their totes on Society 6 and thought the ones sold there were bigger with different fabric, so that’s how I made my estimate. Hope that explains my thinking! 🙂

I finished the book the day my uppercase box arrived 🙂 It was really good. This was my first uppercase box, and I am highly pleased!

Oh, I didn’t receive to tote bag! And it’s so cute too! I thought in the list of items the tote was referring to the uppercase one that’s always in there! I thought that was kind of strange since I didn’t remember them doing that last month! Boo!

Hi Julie – This is Lisa from Uppercase. If you have the Expert or Personalized plan, you should have received the tote bag! Please send us an email at [email protected] so we can sort out this matter.

Thank you!

I am def happy I went with this box for my chosen book sub. I’ve loved all their choices to date and I like that they included more swag this time. I hope they keep that going. The book is awesome, too, I loved it! I hope you enjoy it Liz.

I have to say I never thought I would be interested in a YA book but this sounds like a really intriguing story.

Liz,
Do you pay the extra $6 to have it customized to your taste? I was wondering if that addition would be worth it.
Thanks!

Liz Cadman

I haven’t paid the extra for the customized version. Since you get the same bookish goodies either way, and they usually tie into the featured book, it didn’t seem worth it to me to get a book that doesn’t match the other items. Hope that helps!

I paid for the upgrade and I did not get all the extras. I only received a book (hardcover but not signed), the tote and matching stickers. Also, my tote didn’t have a tag or anything, so I didn’t realize it was branded.

I already own (and read) The Wrath and the Dawn, but I would have LOVED to get that scarf!

Blessedmommi

oops typo.. That should read you can ” SEE” if they have items you’re following!!

Hi Liz,

I just noticed the newest swap feature. Now when initiating a swap you can if they have items you’re following!! That is the best feature. I’ve been wanting this one for FOREVER.. Thanks so much for all you and your husband do. My addiction just got kicked up a KNOTCH!!! YAY 🙂
