Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – May 2015 Box

Julep Maven is a monthly nail polish and beauty subscription box. They make all their own products, so subscribers get a good value each month – over $40 retail worth of product for $24.99 a month.

And, if you sign up for 3-months up front, you get the $19.99 rate.

Each month Julep releases a new collection on the 20th, and you can decide which box you want, you can upgrade to the entire collection, or you can skip that month.

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – May 2015 Polish

Julep Nail Color in Shelby – Retail Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Amanda – Retail Value $14

I got bold nail polish colors last month and decided to keep the trend going for this month. Plus since the theme is Set Sail, a nautical blue creme seemed like an appropriate pick!

Julep Feels Like Velvet Full-Coverage Eye Shadow Duo in Moonlight & Starlight - Retail Value $20

This is one of their new beauty products, and I've been very impressed with their eyeliners, so I wanted to try out their new eye shadows. (Also I love that all their beauty products are paraben free).

On the back of the package it says "rich color in one swipe." Because of that statement I was expecting deeply pigmented color, but that isn't what I got. It took a few brush strokes to establish the color I wanted from the purple shade, and the starlight shade is a sheer subtle shimmer, so I don't think it is even designed to give the dense color promised.

So while the colors are as intense as I was initially expecting - I still like them. The subtle color is actually better for me for everyday wear, and I like that the powdered formulas are very blendable.

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – May 2015 Candy

The bonus item this month is salt water candy, and there is also a coupon included for 30% off your next Julep order:

Verdict: I'm happy with my Julep selections this month. The eyeshadow wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but I ended up liking it a lot. What did you pick from Julep Maven this month?

Hello ladies! I am new to the subscription boxes and yes I am already addicted. I received a Julep sample in my first Glossy Box. I love the color but it chips within a day. I am using a top coat but not Julep’s brand. Was interested in signing up for this box but does the polish wear longer when using the base coat and top coat of the Julep brand. Thank you for your feedback ahead of time.

i got the same moonlight and starlight shadow.
even though they’re not super pigmented, i’m one of those people that grew up being told you can’t wear blue/green shadows if you have blue/green eyes, so this was a perfect brave but not too scary little foray into cooler-toned shadows: and i got compliments! 😀

My box came without the taffy 🙁 They put the sheet with the nutritional information…but no taffy. I emailed them and they said they’d pass that along to the shipment people. Obviously taffy isn’t worth much, but I was excited about it. I figured they’d at least give me like a 10% off coupon?

i’d still be kinda bummed, but if it helps alleviate your fomo, they were not particularly omg and i gobbled them up within 30 seconds of opening the box and spent the next ten minutes wishing i could quit my sweet tooth.

I got the eyeshadow palette in Coconuts and Cabana and I was shocked that it looked so great on me. I’m dark complexion and usually those light shadows don’t show up on me but these were absolutely gorgeous on me! I love Julep eyeshadows, I’ve been hoping that the nude palette ( the one with the 5 shadows) comes back up because it’s my all time favorite and I’ve been hitting pan on all the shades.

This isn’t a huge concern or anything, just wondering. I’ve been with julep for 7mths now, and I have yet to receive a candy of any sort. Does everyone get them?

Amy

I was with them for well over a year, and I received the candy ONCE. Sounds like something petty, but it did tick me off, month after month.

I was only with them for 3-4 months but I think I got it nearly every time.

Amy

My coupon in this months box was a free polish with any purchase. I got the same polish colors as you but swapped out the eye shadow for the coral shade of polish – It’s really pretty!

Thanks! I was wondering because I see it on the review every month

I didn’t realize we could swap out the eyeshadow for a polish. I didn’t see that anywhere… oh pooh. Im still gonna keep my sub to Julep for now, just incase something good pops up eventually, but I’ve had a sub to them since they started and Im pretty much over it. Some of the polishes work, others don’t or have a high peel/chip point -which is formula no matter what base or topcoat I use. Whereas other 3 or 4 free polish brands give me no trouble whatsoever. Their colors this month were nice, so I used up all of my jules to get a free box and I got some add on decals. For months now, though, it seems like they have been repeating dupe colors constantly. Their makeup and body care is only so so.. never a huge hit or as good as I hope it to be. I loved their pedi creme but they changed it. Hoping something good comes soon.

I skipped mine this month but I liked the color selection. I was afraid I wouldn’t like the shadows, feel the lip pouts ate overpriced, and just didn’t need more polish ate the moment since I haven’t painted my nails yet this year.

I got my box yesterday and the palette that I ordered the other day. I got 5 new nail polishes, for some reason I’m in love with all their colors right now lol. I got the Coconuts and Cabanas eye shadow duo, the colors look GORGEOUS, but I haven’t tested them yet. I tried the new eyeshadow palette last night and the colors are beautiful in the pan, I put them on and you couldn’t even tell I was wearing eyeshadow, no pigmentation at all. Very disappointed in the palette, I’m pale too the colors should show up on my skin lol.

thanks for posting this! I’ve been itching to buy that palette but I’ll save my funds for something else now

You’re welcome! I’m not sure if it’s just me or what. They look so pretty in the palette, but I tried 4 last night and you couldn’t tell I was wearing them hardly no matter how many layers I put on. I did try the Coconuts and Cabanas Velvet Eye Duo today and it was really pretty on.
