Ipsy Review – May 2015 Bag

Each month you get a makeup bag with your subscription. I really like the design this month! And I love the canvas bag is lined with a nylon interior making it easy to clean.

Ipsy Review – May 2015 Oscar

Luxie 205 Tapered Blending Brush – Value $12

I love getting makeup brushes in subscription boxes! This brush is very soft, and it gets bonus points for being cruelty-free!

Oscar Blandi Pronto Texture & Volume Spray – FULL SIZE! Value $24

I can’t believe they sent the full-size version of this spray! I’ve sampled the travel size versions before thanks to a few subscriptions, and it is a great volume spray.

Ipsy Review – May 2015 Jessies

NUXE Face Cleansing and Make-Up Removing Gel – .5 oz Value $1.40

I’ve sampled NUXE products before thanks to Birchbox, so I’m guessing I’ll like this cleanser. (I can already tell I like the scent).

Jesse’s Girl Pure Pigment Eye Dust in Brown Sugar – FULL SIZE! Value $5

I was happy to see that this eyeshadow has an almost matte finish (not much shimmer). I have a ton of shimmery eye shadows in this shade, so at least this keeps it different and good for everyday makeup looks. (I’ve swatched it below).

Ipsy Review – May 2015 Lip

Urban Decay Revolution High Color Lipgloss + Ozone 24/7 Glide-on Lip Pencil – Value $17

This lip gloss gives a ton of pigment and shine. It’s almost pretty long lasting – I tried out the purple Bittersweet shade, and my lips are still purple after eating dinner. (Also – who knew I would like purple lipgloss? It’s a bold look for me, but I think I’ll try to find a similar shade in a lip product that is a little more sheer).

Ipsy Review – May 2015 Urban Decay

I’m impressed with the size of the Ozone 24/7 lip liner – it is 3/4 the size of the full-size version. It also glides on easily just like the name claims!

And here are swatches of the lipgloss colors and the eyeshadow:

Ipsy Review – May 2015 Swatch

(It took some work to get those urban decay glosses off my wrist!)

Verdict: This month’s Ipsy has a value of about $59. I think that’s incredible for a $10 a month subscription, and I still can’t believe I got a full-sized Oscar Blandi product! I think I’ll use everything included, and the purple lipgloss pushed me out of my makeup comfort zone in a good way!

What did you get from Ipsy this month?

  1. This was my second box and I’m pretty happy. I like the bag but it suits my sister much more so Im giving it to her. I got the Chella brow pencil which also goes to my sis. Jesse’s girl shadow, nice color. The hair oil which I am excited to try. The company is new to me but based on their principles Ill be looking possible purchase from them. The NUXE cleanser which smells nice and the most exciting thing for me the UD sample/liner set! I think the size of the gloss samples are pretty big. Two months and Im happy with both. #lifer!

  2. I Can NOT Get The Top Of My Ozone 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil and I’m Really Getting Mad and Frustrated… I Don’t Know What To Do…

    • I had the same problem. I had to pull *really* hard to get the cap off. Good luck.

  3. I get two bags a month and got a nice variety of things. For the first time in MONTHS I will use pretty much everything but the hair oil!!

    2 UD lipliners with gloss
2 Bella Pierre eyeliners which I LOVE
    itCosmetics CC Cream
    Peter Lamas Facial Cleaner
    Klorane patches
    pixi Bronzer
    Balanced Guru Hair Oil
    Alterna CC Crème

The only thing I didn’t get that I realllly wanted was the Cailyn Matte Tint but thanks to swapping it should be here tomorrow!! YAY FOR SWAPS!!! =)

  4. Ipsy blows the doors off no matter what you get in your bag I think. I love to buy clear bags on amazon and put the crinkle paper that comes in beauty boxes in the clear bags then put in some of the items that I want to give as gifts in the bags and put pretty ribbon on it and put in my gift closet. People LOVE these little gifts from me. I dont like purple, so I put the purple lipstick, eyeshadow, black eyeliner and mascara in one bag as an example and give to my hairdresser for Christmas, she loves purple. So its such a great and expensive gift really with the true prices of the regular size items if you don’t wish to keep them…just an idea. Other wise, it has opened my eyes to how many new products are out there that are wonderful to try, and for ten dollars its such fun and truly a great value. I love Ipsy!

    • What a great idea!! my niece loves to play with makeup, so I will be doing this for her upcoming birthday 🙂

  5. I got the exact same contents. I was floored when I looked up the price of the Oscar Blandi volume spray on Amazon. Wow! I was really excited to try everything, though I’m still wary of that purple lip gloss. The bag itself is cute, but I will likely give it to my tween niece. This was my second glam bag and I’ve been very pleased so far.

  6. this looks like an awesome bag ! love the full size OB!

  7. I would kill for your bag. I’ve been dying to try that Oscar Blandi spray and, dang, I can’t believe they sent a full-size sample! SO JEALOUS.

I got YET ANOTHER “who-cares” black eyeliner pencil, some leave-in conditioner that leaves my hair feeling greasy, the eyeshadow brush and the Urban Decay stuff. I may be forgetting something – if so, it obviously wasn’t memorable. Maybe a perfume sample. I feel kind of like I got all the junky leftovers they had lying around. Maybe I need to tweak my beauty profile.

This was the first time an Ipsy bag really disappointed me, but you still can’t beat the fun for the price. I’ll probably be a loyal subscriber until they go out of business.

    • The more I go back and tweak my profile, the better stuff I get! Also, review your products. I think that helps even more

  8. I was very happy with ipsy this month! I received the Klorane eye patches, the makeup brush (I have a nicer metal one I received previously from ipsy, but this one will live in my traveling makeup bag), the UD lip stuff (I have purchased this lip pencil before and love it), the very small SPF, and the full-sized Chella eyebrow pencil. I was thrilled!

What I am most pleased about, however, was ipsy’s response to my receiving the eye primer last month that so many said had mold. They sent me an email (generic) as I had received the mica eye primer in my bag. I did t really notice anything wrong with mine, but I was uncomfortable using it and told them that. I also said I loved the rest of my bag last month– particularly the red Elizabeth Arden lipstick. They said they would send a replacement product and sent a tracking number. Imagine my surprise when I got the package to find a full-sized Oscar Blandi heat protection spray AND a second Elizabeth Arden lipstick! Yay ipsy!

  9. This is my 2nd Ipsy bag. The cosmetic bag is so cute.
    My bag had:
    Luxie brush – LOVE it!
Two sets of Klorane eye patches – Looking forward to trying these.
Glamglow Face Cleanser – I’m excited to try this.
Briogeo Hair Conditioning Spray – I’m in love with this product
Pixie by Petra Bronzer – It looks like it maybe full size

  10. I received in my Ipsy bag this month:
*Bella Pierre Gel Eyeliner Pencil No. 002 “Ebony” full size
*St. Tropez Instant Glow Body Lotion 1.69 oz tube
*Sebastian Stylbrid 9 multi-benefit hairspray 1.55 oz can
*Briogeo Rosarco Milk reparative leave-in conditioner 1 oz pump bottle
*Urban Decay Glide-On Lip liner pencil “Ozone” clear &
2 tiny foiled sample lip color pots: purple & pink

I rarely use hairspray, have tons of leave-in conditioner, the St. Tropez Instant Glow Body Lotion is very generously sized, but way too dark for me…..maybe later in the summer when I get my natural “gardeners tan” I can use this to embellish it.

I like the eyeliner & will use that & it will be fun to experiment with the UD liner. That purple lipgloss color is very bold!

This was definitely a summer-themed bag and I’m happy with it. I sub to several other boxes and any time one of my boxes DOESN’T include a mascara, sea salt spray or dry shampoo powder is a win for me.

  11. I got this box for my teen daughter and this was her first Ipsy box. She would have liked more makeup, but she was very happy with it – in particular with the makeup bag. She got:

    – GlamGlow Thirstycleanse Daily Hydrating Cleanser
    – Dermalogica Clear Start Breakout Clearing All Over Toner (good for acne)
    – It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream with SPF 50 (worked well)
    – Balanced Guru organic farm Style Me hair oil
    – theBalm NUDE ‘dude Eyeshadow

The value was around $30, but more importantly, my daughter was more than $10 happy with it. But she really loved the makeup bag.

  12. I wish I had the Nuxe product instead of the sunscreen.
I got the brush, UD pencil and gloss, full size eyeliner, cleanser, and tiny sunscreen sample. Still a good month for Ipsy!

  13. Hey Liz;

We received the same Ipsy and Birchbox this month. How odd but cool because these were both really nice. 🙂

    • Box twins! 🙂

  14. I received UD lip gloss, Jesse’s Girl eye dust, Nuxe cleansing gel, Chella eyebrow pencil and BalancedGuru hair oil. I would have loved to get the OB spray but I was happy with all the items in my bag. Can’t wait to try lip gloss. Tried hair oil and cleansing gel and loved the scent on both. I’m always impressed with the bag that’s included each month and being only a sub for three months, I’m excited for things to come in my Ipsy bag! 🙂

  15. My 1st Ipsy bag and I received:
    Luxe brush
    Glam glow
    Petra bronzer
    Milk conditioner
Eye patches – not paraban free
I’m glad it wasn’t lotions or eyebrow stuff. Lol! I subbed for a year, so looking forward to future bags!

  16. What a great month for Ipsy! Nice stuffs! I read purple UD is very popular right now, Rihanna wears it 🙂

  17. This is my second Ipsy Bag. I canceled after my first bag but decided to try again. Glad I did!

    *Klorane eye patch
*Oscar Blandi full size hair lift mousse
    *Luxe blending brush
    *Glamglow cleanser
    *Jesse’s Girl shadow

  18. I received the Oscar Blandi Hair Lift Mousse full size. I was surprised and super happy.

  19. I’m always floored when I see people getting bags in the $50+ value range, when mine have been consistently in the $30’s to low $40s and still not good matches for me. I’ve been a subscriber for over 2 years and it was really fun at first and then got a lot less fun when they started with all the variations. Now that a bunch are repeating it must be even harder for them to give me a good match. It’s time to say goodbye. Farewell, IPSY.

  20. I’m always floored when I see other people’s bags having values in the $50+ range. Mine tend to be in the $30-$40 range consistently and are often a poor match for me. I think it’s getting even harder for them to match me well since they are starting to repeat a lot of items I’ve received before limiting my bag choices. I’ve been a subscriber for over two years. I’m pretty sure I’ll be unsubscribing this month making it my last. It was really fun at first, but I’m moving on. farewell, IPSY.

  21. I received Pixi bronzer, UD lip stuff, bellapierre eyeliner, Peter Lamas facial cleanser, and Caviar CC Hair Creame.

I was really content with what I got in my bag this month! This is probably my favorite bag I have received in the past few months. I’ve dropped almost all of my subs, and Ipsy is one of the only two beauty subs I’ve kept. I feel like every month I get something fun and new to try, and the value is always there!

    • One of my bags was exactly the same as yours. For the first time in months I can honestly say I will use everything in it!!! Enjoy yours!!

  22. I received the same as Connie. I love everything and was psyched to have a brush.

  23. I received the exact same products as Liz, except for the eyeshadow. I got the Balm Nude Dude eyeshadow in Flirty(it’s a really pretty purple with gold shimmer). I love the citrusy scent of the Oscar Blandi spray. Nothing leaked in my bag, but that Nuxe cleanser has a very strong scent. I could smell it before fully opening my envelope. I love the UD pencil and lipgloss shades, but wish they were packaged differently. I like getting brushes in subs, but this one is similar to several others I already have.

  24. I had cancelled last month just because I hadn’t been crazy about the last few bags. This month’s bag is super cute instead of the ugly or plain vinyl or woven bags of past months. The full size product would be awesome. I love the purple urban decay might just have to pick that one up.

  25. Ipsy’s been kinda knocking it out of the park lately! I was ready to cancel, but these last two it three months have been pretty impressive.

I can’t believe you got a full size Oscar Blandi either!! Awesome! 😀

  26. Did anyone else get a full size Oscar Blandi dry shampoo? I haven’t seen one in any other review, forum or comment here. I’m a longtime ipsy fan so it seems odd to me that I haven’t seen that variation elsewhere. Considering two friends got the same product in travel size it seems strange.

    • Yes several women on here said they got the full size Oscar Blandi as well.

    • I got the full size spray too my box was identical to Liz I was so excited!! This has been my best ipsy ever !!! Better than any birchbox I’ve gotten either, not only was it the highest value for me but I am excited about every item !

  27. This is my 1st Ipsy bag, also. The cosmetic bag is so cute.
    My bag had:
    Luxie brush – LOVE it!
Two sets of Klorane eye patches – Looking forward to trying these.
Glamglow Face Cleanser – I get so many cleanser samples in other boxes.
Briogeo Hair Conditioning Spray – I’m anxious to try this tomorrow.
Pixie by Petra Bronzer – I’ll try it, but probably won’t continue to us it. The color is nice. However it is very shimmery. I prefer matte bronzers. I don’t want to sparkle! Shimmery makeup tends to settle in the little lines and wrinkles and tends to make me look older. YIKES!!!! I have daughters and granddaughters who will want it!

  28. This was my first Glam Bag also and I think they hit the mark for me, I received:
Cailyn Cosmetics – Pure Lust Extreme Matte Tint, this feels great on my lips and when it dried, it left a beautiful matte shade. (full size)
Jesse’s Girl Pure Pigment Eye Dust ( haven’t tried this yet, I’ll have to swatch it to see if I like the color).
I did receive the IT CC Cream, which I was hoping for, I have a larger size and the one I received is a nice size as well and will be great for travel or my purse, I love this stuff. I seen on tv earlier, they now have a pressed powder that you put over the cc cream to make it look even better, like a mineral veil and I want that now,,,haha!!!!
I received a set of eyelashes, but they are unlike any I’ve seen before, they are very thin and I mean very thin. I really think if I wore these, no one would notice because I have extremely long lashes anyway.
The last item is Briogeo Rosarco MIlk Reparative leave-in conditioner spray (my hair is so thick, I can’t get enough of a good leave in conditioner and this one smells great!!! I’ve never heard of some of these brands and I love that idea, I hope it stays this way.
For my first month, I absolutely love it, plus a bag. These items could not be bought for $10. Some of them individually could not be bought for that price! I’m so glad I signed up!!!

    • I got exact same box as Samantha. It was also my first glam bag. I just wish I got the UD instead of the lashes!

  29. You lucked out with this month’s bag! I have yet to receive anything full size from them.

    • Same. I’m getting some bag envy here. 🙂 Would’ve loved the brush (I really like Luxie brushes) and the full-size texturizing spray. Instead, I got yet another black eye liner, a CC hair cream I’ve gotten before and a bronzer that’s too dark. But…such is the way of sub boxes. Some you win, some you lose.

  30. Another great Ipsy bag. I got the same brush wich I absolutely love. The same Urban Decay lip pencil and gloss. I don’t wear lip products very much but I really love the purple gloss. I also got a full size Bella Pierre eyeliner in black wich I love. Goes on smooth and doesn’t budge all day. A leave in spray hair conditioner wich smells great and makes my hair really soft. And Amie mattifying anti shine face cream. I don’t have oily skin but I will definitely use it in the Summer and it smells divine! Great bag.

    • Got the same bag as you!! First bag and I really dislike it.. Don’t really know why I filled out the survey.. I don’t need more brushes nor eye liner, and I don’t use matte moisturizer, considering I stated in the survey I have dry skin, and early forties, so I need moisturizing, not mattifying.. Hopefully next month will be better!!

  31. I got:
    -same brush
-same urban decay lip pencil with sample glosses
    -cotz spf 40 tinted cream
    -chella eyebrow pencil in taupe

The Cotz is awesome but the retail price is really high.

Didn’t like the packaging for the gloss – too hard to open.

Initially didn’t like the lip pencil but now I do.

  32. I hated my ipsy this month ): thank god for the urban decay pencil otherwise I wouldn’t have been thrilled about anything. I got the urban decay pencil, pixi by Petra bronzer, bellepierre waterproof eyeliner, Peter Lamas Citrus facial cleanser and the bare republic natural spf. The urban decay pencil again, I love. The eyeliner is actually really waterproof and long lasting which surprised me, but I don’t wear black eyeliner pretty much ever. I have a million bronzers and never get excited about a new one (especially since we got one in boxycharm too this month), but this one is pretty light so it’s not bad. The cleanser is just ok and the sunscreen I’ll never use.

    • I got almost the same bag as you except for the cleanser, instead I got Klorane soothing eye patches. I pretty much hated this month’s bag, I don’t like most of my Ipsy bags though. It seems they make sure to send me things I don’t want and never send me the things I would like to get. I don’t use brozer, or eye pencils, the bare republic sunscreen, not something I need. Just a disappointing bag, but two items were full size.

      • Im not too sure what you have your profile settings to on your ipsy profile, but I found that ever since I switched my answer to the question about trying new things to Not Comfortable (something like that–the one that implies you only use what you like) I haven’t gotten anything weird or random for me. Maybe try that and see if it helps for next month =)

    • Maybe try adjusting the “which stylist is most like you” section of your profile? I think that has a big effect on what you get.

      • I wanna know what stylist can help me get UD! 🙂

        • Hi Ellen. I got the UD, and the stylists I have picked are Chrisspy and Christen. I have loved my bags lately and I did change my stylists after a couple I wasn’t so crazy about. I also make sure to give all the lip products I receive glowing reviews. They’re my favorite and I can never get enough! Hope that helps.

        • I got the UD and I have Desi. I love my stylist! Although I might add Christen in addition, just to mix it up.

  33. I use the loose eyeshadow as a blush/bronzer. Looks pretty good. I didn’t like it as an eyeshadow.

  34. I really liked my Ipsy this month. I almost always do, though.

I got the Urban Decay lip pencil and the Luxie brush, too. I love both. My bag also contained:

~ Chella Eyebrow Pencil. I love every Chella item I’ve ever received.
~ Peter Lamas Detoxifying Citrus C Facial Cleanser. I like getting facial cleansers. I’m sure I’ll like this one.
~ Bare Republic Naturals SPF 30 Mineral Face Sunscreen Lotion. I’d never heard of this brand, but it says that it’s “Powered by Coola”, and I love Coola, so I’m excited to try it.

    • I got the same bag. The only think I can’t see myself using is the brow pencil, but the rest I’m happy with.

  35. Not super-excited about my bag, but it’s all ok for $10.
    I got:
    -same brush
    -klorane eye patches
-same urban decay lip pencil with sample glosses
    -cotz spf 40 tinted cream
-chella eyebrow pencil in taupe (unfortunately not my shade)

  36. I received a full size Oscar Blandi product too – which I tried & I love! It was my first Ipsy Bag & I couldn’t be happier! Here’s what was inside:
    1) Klorane: Smoothing and Relaxing Patches
    3) IT Cosmetics: Your Skin But Better® CC+® Cream with SPF 50+
    4) theBalm Cosmetics: NUDE Dude Eyeshadow Single
    5) Oscar Blandi: Hair Lift Mousse

    • Wendy, this was my first month too and I got the same box as you. I was so surprised to see that full sized Oscar Blandi. Love the bag too.

  37. I love your bag! This month was my 1st ispy bag and I must say I didn’t love my samples. I got the ozone pencil, loose pigment, and cleanser like you. I LOVE the makeup bag; Sephora had something similar but I didn’t want to pay the price- now I don’t have to! I also got hair oil and a brow pencil – 2 things I don’t like as samples ever really. The only thing I really like is the ozine pencil, the wash smells too much like perfume and the pigment…. it just don’t like it. But, I am willing to give them another shot next month. Hopefully it will be better.

  38. I received the brush and lip pencil as well, that alone is worth the $10 to me. The brush works well and is pretty. The other items I received: a hair oil, a face cream, and an eyeliner (I have so many I could probably draw a line from here to the moon and back at this point) are a bit of a miss for me, but it’s only my second month.

  39. Wow! You are so lucky to get the full sized Oscar Blandi product! Instead, I received a small Cotz Sunblock =T 0.35 ounce… Thanks for sharing!
