Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – May 2015 Info

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included.

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – May 2015 Quirky

Quirky Contort Power – Value $24.99

This was the item we picked for sample selection. Since it’s $5 over the cost of the box, I already knew we’d be ahead since this is an item we’d actually buy! It’s a well-designed outlet adapter that turns one outlet into both an outlet and two USB chargers. (And you can wrap your USB charger cords around it too).

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – May 2015 Cologne

Montale Woods and Spices Cologne – 2 ml Value $4.80

I never like getting fragrance samples in subscription boxes because it seems like a freebie item, but I will admit that I like this woods and spices scent.

Montez Renault Moisturizing Body Lotion – 2 oz Value $6

I like the scent of this body lotion – but it is strong, so I would say it could substitute for wearing a cologne.

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – May 2015 Baxter

Baxter of California Clay Mask – .8 oz Value $3.60

You could either pick a Baxter of California curated box this month, or one of the four sample choice selections. I’m wondering if since it is a special Baxter month, everyone will get a sample from the brand. I don’t think my husband has ever tried a mask before – but we’ll see if he likes this one! It’s simple enough – just put it on for 10 minutes and let it dry before washing off.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $40. We’ll use everything but the cologne, so the value is there for us. (And I knew I’d likely be happy with the value by sample choice selection alone, so I’m happy about that!)

What did you pick from Birchbox Man this month?

  1. Having second thoughts. I received my first box. I filled out the lengthy profile, so they could match items with my specific needs. Hanz de Fuko Claymation, super high hold styling gel isn’t something I will use on my buzz-cut. I’m glad I didn’t subscribe for an entire year.

  2. What do you think of the BirchBox Plus items for men? Does this mean no more lifestyle items? Or will there be lifestyle items available for the sub?

  3. Kaity at Birchbox was so helpful and patient resolving an issue with my men’s box that ended up being my mistake. Prompt responding and very gracious.

Birchbox is by far my favorite box and the level of customer service they provide puts them over the top.

  4. By the time I got to pick my item, every single one was gone. Our box’s item appears to be a pair of underwear that BBM had laying around from last month. But it’s the right size and good quality so I’m happy with that. Got the clay mask, but it does not work (no benefit to using it, we tried). Am getting really tired of Baxter – this is our third Baxter product in a BBM box… I wish you could pick brands like you can for the women’s box. We also got cologne (again) and 3-in-1 body wash/shampoo/conditioner.

  5. May was my second month, and I’m so disappointed. I didn’t get to choose an item the first month and got a $10 razor and maybe $5 of samples even though my husband’s profile says he doesn’t shave often. Then my May box just shipped! It is set to arrive May 15 which is so late. BB said this is normal?!? I selected the tie for him since he wears them every day. I looked at his contents and its some dumb cord taco things, small notebooks, body wash again, and another hair product. I’m so upset with the value and delays and not getting what I selected. I’m a BB Ace which apparently doesn’t matter. I’m likely canceling this box – $40 wasted already. Has anyone else had this problem?!?

    • Same here. I have been a Birchbox subscriber for years. We did the Birchbox man for 6 months and cancelled. Nothing but body wash, tiny cologne samples, and tiny soap.

  6. I was able to select the Quirky Contort Power. My 16 year old son saw the selections when they were posted on MSA and told me his first and second choices. This allowed me to select when the email came through. I am wondering if it was a popular item.

He received 1. Cotz Face Natural Skin Tone SPF 40 which he won’t use because it is makeup. 2. English Laundry 3 in 1 Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash which he has yet to try. 3. The Quirky Contort Power which he loves. 4. Billy Jealousy Slush Fund Styling Mud which he likes.

  7. I get this sub for my 23yo son and he was not thrilled at all with the box. For some reason I am still not getting the choice email and I did go adjust my email setting on the site. So he ended up with the tie, it’s ok, but he never wears ties. If I can’t figure it out this month I think I’ll cancel.

  8. I went with the socks and they are amazing!!! They seriously don’t fall ever and are super comfy! I just wish they came in more colors on the birchbox site! So happy that was my pick. The value of those two pairs was $28 alone and I knew either me or my boyfriend would use them so it was perfect

  9. Horrible box! I also didn’t have the quirky as a potential sample choice.. Usually it’s shaded when one sample is sold out, but in my case, it was not even part of the list they emailed me.. I got the tiny water bottle ( not sure what he’s supposed to do with a bottle that sz), and 3 other tiny samples.. Not even worth $20 all together.. I’m canceling after seeing sample choice for june, which is Father’s Day month, but if nothing interesting, I’m canceling this subscription!

  10. I just went back to look at my boyfriends choice email because I know he would have chose that option of power adapter… Interestingly enough it was not a choice on his email… Just socks, tie and water bottle or a box. I wonder if they send reviewers better choices… Hmmm may have to enquirer… We definitely subscribed because of your reviews and don’t want to be mislead by false choices!

    Thanks for this reviting review!

    • The power adapter was listed as an option in the e-mail that we got the day before and it was what my husband decided he wanted. When the link came to choose I clicked on it right away and it was no longer listed as a choice so we wound up going with the Baxter box. That had 4 smallish sample tubes and a candle which I’m swapping. Disappointing 🙁

    • Same here ladies, when I received the link I clicked on it right away to choose a sample but the adapter wasn’t listed as one of the options. That’s such a bummer. I was surprised when I saw this post, I thought it must be for June? Ha.

      • I’m not a blogger and was able to select the Quirky Contort Power. I do not know if Aces receive their emails ahead of time which may play into it.

  11. My hubby got some horrendous cologne that had broken in the package and the tie stinks to high heaven of it. It’s airing out right now, but the tie is not something my husband would ever wear. I don’t recall what else was in the box as it had to be taken out of the house right away as I had already gotten a headache from the cologne. I don’t think that there was any Baxter products in it though.

  12. My husband got the skinny tie. It’s well made and casual. He loved it and wore it already. He also got Montez Renault 3 in 1 hair/face/body wash. He loved that and it was a big size. The other 2 items were Supergoop spf 50 which is useful and some great Billy Jealousy hair styling cream. He was very pleased this month.

    • My husband got the same samples, but I chose the socks instead of the tie. He wanted the phone cleaner but that wasn’t available on sample choice day. I panicked and went with the socks as I figured they might get worn, but I wish I’d gone with the thing Liz picked.

We’ve only been signed up two months, and I had unsubbed but resubbed to get him the headphones, and he seemed happy with those.
