Beauty Box 5 Review – May 2015 Box

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. It’s also one of the cheapest beauty subscription boxes – only $8.25 a month with an annual subscription. They tend to feature drugstore brands, and usually the product sizes are deluxe or sample size. (Sometimes they still send out the dreaded foil packets though).

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Beauty Box 5 Review – May 2015 Info

Each Beauty Box 5 box comes with an informational card detailing each item in your box for that month.

Beauty Box 5 Review – May 2015 Brush

Essenza Luxury Hand Soap in French Lavender - 2 oz Value $1

I actually get excited for hand soap samples in subscription boxes since I like to take them with me anytime I'm staying at a hotel (I prefer liquid hand soap over the standard hotel mini soap bar). And I like lavender too, so this scent works for me.

Coastal Scents Makeup Brush BR-C-s03 - Value $2.50

This is a large eye shadow brush. It's pretty good quality for the $2.50 retail price too. I always like getting makeup brushes in subscription boxes, so this item is another win.

Beauty Box 5 Review – May 2015 Tweezers

Bio Swiss Stainless Steel Mini Tweezer - Value $5

I'm very particular when it comes to tweezers, and when I saw these had a retail value of $5, I was thinking they probably wouldn't be that good - and I was right. I like the idea of including tweezers in a subscription box, but this isn't a good quality product.

Dermalogica Active Moist - .24 oz Value $5.80

This is a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer. I like how quickly it absorbs into my skin, and it is fragrance free!

Beauty Box 5 Review – May 2015 Blush

Styli-Style Blush Highlighter Stick - Value $6

This blush has good pigment and the shade works well for my skin tone. Here is a swatch (just one swipe for this color):

Beauty Box 5 Review – May 2015 Swatch

Verdict: This box has a value of about $20. That's in the range of what I expect from Beauty Box 5. In general I'm pleased with most of the items in this box, but I wish the tweezers were better quality.

What do you think of the May Beauty Box 5?

This was by far my biggest waste of money!!! Their boxes are mediocre at best and the 2 months I received boxes I had nothing but problems trying to get them. On top of that, customer service, while very nice, were extremely unhelpful. Will never pay for this again. Ipsy is far superior!

I agree

Although no one is satisfied 100% of the time, I find BB5 items are cheaply made and lack quality. Just this month I tossed out the LOL eyeshadow (broke in shipping since they do not use inner boxes) and a nails inc nail polish (asked customer service for a cleaner line of product; no response). I was impressed with the mascara I got.

It’s not a terrible box; I just don’t find enough value in continuing my subscription. Would rather spend the same amount on ipsy. *gulp*

I like that there were 2 tools in this box.

I got the little scrapper/spatula tool in 1 of my 1st boxes. Used it when I got the busted up consealer in boxycharm. Genius! I’ve bought a 2nd. I too have cancelled because of makeup overload though. I did order the LE Spa box last month and was very impressed! Just can’t fork over $65 for the current LE.

I cancelled my BB5 subscription 7 months ago and this is the first box I’ve seen since then that I wish I had!

I feel like I’m the only one who likes BB5… I tried birchbox and ispy and beauty hot and I found that none of the items I got from those subscriptions are what I needed or wanted.
BB5 may not have pricy items or brand names but they have items that you never know you would need. forever sticking with bb5

I’m with you 100%. There’s a nice mix of products/tools. I don’t care about the retail value of what’s in the box – only if I’ll use it or not. And what good is it getting samples of expensive products I won’t ever buy (looking at you – glossybox + sometimes birchbox)? The only reason I let it run out is because I am over-stocked on makeup for a while.

You are not the only one, I have always loved getting my BB5 items each month, they never disappoint. I tried Birchbox and don’t know what there is to rave about. I found them to be dishonest, samples were not impressive and customer service terrible.

That’s too bad that yall didn’t enjoy Birchbox.
I have 4 accounts with them, email them on a frequent basis, and have never had a bad experience with them. I always use 100 points codes, 20% off discounts, take advantage of sample choice, and hardly ever pay for anything I buy in their store because of all the points I rack up.

I think the problem is people don’t understand the point of Birchbox. It’s not like all these others subs where what you get in your box is… just what you get. It’s more so about the points and discounts and using BB as a savings account that keeps on giving lol. Seriously they should hire me to be a spokesperson because their sub is genius.

Oh well, if yall dont like BB, that’s more samples for me! lol

I cancelled BB5 after getting this box. It wasn’t bad, but… I get 7 other boxes that I like better, and I felt something had to go, so this was it. I too am very picky about tweezers. I lost the best pair I ever had and none since have done as good a job. I don’t think these are going to do the trick, either, lol.

Bb5 isn’t amazing but it’s not all bad like I’ve read from ppl. It’s not amazing makeup ski care products(though some are) but you get awesome little things, like the flossers case, how great is that, I never knew existed and I’m a floss maniac, so great for in my purse and diaper bag. In my may box I received: the same except instead of the soap it’s Ahava 3 sample pack(packets, but there are 3), and my styli style stick is a highlighter in champagne. not amazing but Can’t complain. I agree with the tweezers, I’m picky too, but I’m going to use the case and put my tweezers in it and those will go into the bottomless bag, hehe, for a spare since I loose tweezers like buttons

O yea, I forgot to add that it also came with a 25% off entire order to styli style

Too bad my sister is no longer subscribed. She would have loved this month’s box.

This looks like a good box! Before I canceled BB5, I was getting “free samples” they were valuing at $4+ . The value was almost never in the box for me, but other people love BB5.
