Rosario Dawson Quarterly Box Review #18903 Letter

Each Quarterly box comes with a letter from the curator detailing the items included. For her third box, the theme is about clearing your senses and making space for Spring!

Rosario Dawson Quarterly Box Review #18903 Candle

Honest Co. Air + Fabric Freshener in Orange Cypress - Value $6.95

Illume Tin Candle in Watermint - Value $10

Neither of these items have a specific scent listed in the letter, so I'm guessing scents will vary for subscribers. I use this Honest Co. Air Freshener all the time, so I'm happy to have more. And I love the design of this Illume tin candle - the scent is very refreshing too.

Rosario Dawson Quarterly Box Review #18903 Mug

Thai Celadon Tea Cup - Value $5

Urban Yoga Foundation Morning Mediation Tea - Value $.50?

I don't think this tea is available for sale from Urban Yoga, but I wish it was - it smells so good! And I love the pale blue color of this tea mug - it is perfect for relaxation.

Rosario Dawson Quarterly Box Review #18903 Hope

Stella & Dot Hope Necklace - Value $39

This necklace is made with sterling silver and benefits women's cancer research. I think it is such a beautiful and simple piece - it will make a perfect gift for someone I love!

Rosario Dawson Quarterly Box Review #18903 CEED

POP Rocks Candy - Value $.50

CEED Beads - Value $40

Here is an excerpt from Rosario's letter about the POP Rocks inclusion:

The be all/cure all is in genuine joy. A smile that erupts from within. It's the simple things that do it for me and good ol' fashioned kid's candy hits the spot. Delight the senses with a sprinkle of POP ROCKS on cereal, ice cream or straight up.

I thought she'd do a much better job of explaining the POP Rocks than I would! (I recommend thoroughly reading the letter if you're a subscriber - it gives so much more depth to the items included, and I love her spirit!)

These CEED beads are "waist beads" meant to be worn around the waist, but they work as necklaces or wrapped bracelets too. (I'll be going with the wrapped bracelet look). A little more on the CEED Project:

Founded in 2014 in Los Angeles, CEED currently employs local village women in Ghana to make useful, multi-purpose bags and our popular and unique CEED Beads. CEED’s range of products will grow as our company and the knowledge of our artisans does; the artisans we employ and the company itself are inexorably linked.

We’re proud of our women artisans and thrilled that, by training and employing them, we’re affording them a better life for themselves and their children. 40% of the population of Ghana lives on the equivalent of one U.S. dollar a day. Proceeds from the sales of CEED products go directly to the salaries of the women we employ.  Our artisans are now making a dignified living wage, most for the first time in their lives.

CEED works in partnership with Operation Dignity International, a nonprofit organization based in Ghana. Operation Dignity is committed to a respectful collaboration and shared vision with the villagers of Ghana, fostering both individual and community development. CEED and ODI are working hand in hand to build a vocational school that will educate women and continue combating the cycle of poverty.

Rosario Dawson Quarterly Box Review #18903 Haircare

Tara Smith Travel Set - Value $8?

This set includes: Wash Up Shower Gel, Soften Up Body Lotion, Shine On Shampoo, and Shine On Conditioner. This brand is new to me - and I'm excited to try it! All the products are vegan, plus free of parabens, phthalates, artificial colors, synthetic fragrance, etc.

Rosario Dawson Quarterly Box Review #18903 Socks

Sock Panda Socks - Value $12

The Lower Eastside Girls Club Seed Bombs - Value ?

I knew Sock Panda is a monthly sock subscription service, but I didn't realize until I read Rosario's letter that they donate a pair of socks to charity for every pair they ship! I might subscribe now. (Use coupon code ROSARIO to save 10% off your first month).

These seed bombs were handmade by the Lower Eastside Girls Club! The label included says, "Spread these seeds in empty lots, barren hillsides, or ugly road dividers!"

Rosario Dawson Quarterly Box Review #18903 Studio

Studio 189 Pillow Case - Value $75

So far, Rosario has included a Studio 189 piece in every box. About Studio 189:

STUDIO ONE EIGHTY NINE is a social enterprise created by Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah that consist of creatives that seeks to provide a platform to help promote and curate African and African-inspired content through an ecommerce shopping site, a supporting agency and an artisan produced fashion collection, called FASHION RISING COLLECTION, launched in support of V-Day's One Billion Rising. We focus on creating opportunities for empowerment, education and employment of artisans and creatives.

Together we represent countries all over Africa and its Diaspora. Created by Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah, the mission of Studio One Eighty Nine and the idea for Fashion Rising, took shape following a trip with V-Day in February, 2011, through Kenya, Burundi and Rwanda to Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo for the opening of the City of Joy.

Rosario Dawson Quarterly Box Review #18903 Case

It's a beautiful piece, and probably the most colorful pillow case I own!

Verdict: This box has a value of nearly $200. I think that is great for the price, and I also just really enjoy the spirit of this subscription, and all the charities and organizations it supports! When I first saw the spoilers for this box, it was a lot of items to take in, so I wasn't sure exactly what I thought of it, but now having read the letter and gone through each item, I really appreciate this box.

What do you think of the #18903 box? (And have you been watching Rosario on Daredevil? My husband and I are about 8 episodes in - we love it!)

I absolutely love this box. This is the first box that I will use everything, but maybe not for the intended purposes, like the ceed item as a necklace or bracelet and the pillowcase to hold different items when I pack. So many boxes have gold jewelry which I hardly ever wear. It was nice to get a silver necklace with touches of gold for others. Anything from the Honest Co is always a plus.
Side note, I have been wearing the Hope necklace for a few days now and every so often the P get hidden so it looks like I’m wearing a Hoe necklace…oops. 🙂

Oh, and I wish the tea was for sale somewhere. I really enjoyed it.

I really like this box but it kinda feels like it all was thrown together. 1 pillow case? 1 teacup? They should’ve at least paired it so it could match. But then again idk why a pillowcase is $75. Wow.

Somehow I ended up with two subs to this so luckily I now have two teacups and two pillowcases lol. I agree the value her 189 products are usually inflated but for $50 this box is a win for me. It would seem I’m the only one that likes the socks, but I only wear socks in the winter and 99% of the time with boots so the funkier the better.

And I can add my toiletries together to make full bottles 😉

Pilar

This is the best Quarterly box out there.

I really didn’t like this box 🙁

I went ahead and listed it on ebay… hoping to at least break even.

I’ll buy it!

I like the items reviewed. I ended up canceling because it look like a bunch of boxes were going to bill at the same time and only kept the sub because I thought it would be a love sub. I subscribed to the Dec box as a gift to my sister.

I would had enjoyed the box and may pick it up on the Best of Quarterly. I do encourage emailing Quarterly to see if the box is available if you know you want it. No need to wait for it to show up later on Quarterly’s website.

I didn’t get this box but I think those socks are great! Am I the only one?

I would love to smell that candle…

Actually, my 19 year old son stole my socks! He didn’t even mind that they were pink and purple – just loved that jimi Hendrix was on them!

CreativelySwank

Followed your lead and my 23yo son indeed did snag them!

Kelly

My 20 year old son wanted them, :0)

I loved this box. It’s so bright, vibrant and whimsical. For $50 I definatey feel that I got my monies worth here. I’ll use every item, except the necklace which I will use as a gift for a family member who could use a little pick me up.

The pillow case is adorable. Probably my favorite item in the box. I agree that the price seems overboard but I do love the style and would love to swap for another one. 🙂

I’m trying to avoid Quarterly, but if this box goes “best of” I might pick one up – really liking this one!

Reply ButtonReply

:)

Was anyone else’s Tara Smith products more than 1/2 empty? There didn’t appear to be anything leaking in the box, so I think they just came like that?

Wasn’t too crazy about this box- swapped most of it out. I generally am not a candle or a tea person, but kept those items (including the cup) because the candle smelled really good and I liked the cup. Socks are ugly, but they seem comfortable and well-made… and who really sees the tops of your socks?

Considering canceling after this… but there’s that whole ‘fear of missing out’ thing, and I felt really popular on the swap site with all these items out there! Was able to trade for things I’ve been eyeing for a while… so perhaps I will stay.

I forgot to ad… even though my travel set was sealed. All four items in it are half full..

Ha, you say half full, I say half empty…..

Love Rosario Dawson’s box! The sock seems really ugly though.

I liked this box a lot better then I thought I would. The tea cup is well made. I m using mine as a planter. The 1 pillow case is cute but not retail value of 75 cute. Room spray smells great. my only issue with this box is I did not like that only 1 cup ot 1 pillow case was sent. the rest of the itemd are fine. I also sub to the cause box and I liked this box a lot better then my last cause box.
