My Pretend Place Subscription Box Review - Spring 2015 Box

My Pretend Place is a quarterly subscription for kids who love to get into costume! I was so excited to learn about this subscription! Both my sons love playing in costume. Our costume box is actually much bigger than our toy box!

My Pretend Place Subscription Box Review - Spring 2015 Extras

This month's theme is Super Hero!

On the left are the items that come standard with every package from My Pretend Place: a thank-you card, a big magnet, and a handle plus some stickers to decorate the box so it can be kept for storage. I love when childrens' subscription services encourage us to re-use the box! On the right is a letter from "Commissioner Sinclair" explaining the "mission" for this quarter!

My Pretend Place Subscription Box Review - Spring 2015 Book

Dex: The Heart of a Hero by Caralyn Buehner - Value $6.99 on Amazon

It makes me so happy to get a kids' book in a subscription box! This looks like a great book, and it got 5 stars on Amazon! My son (age 7) already loves it!

My Pretend Place Subscription Box Review - Spring 2015 Cuffs Craft

This is a craft kit to make your own super hero cuffs! We actually already received this craft kit in another box we reviewed for My Pretend Place earlier this year. They turned out very cool and we had fun making them. I may swap this little kit, but the boys may want a variety of cuffs in different colors.

My Pretend Place Subscription Box Review - Spring 2015 Shield

Superhero Shield - Value $6.99

Every super hero needs a shield! I cannot tell you how pleased I am that this costume includes a shield and not another gun or sword (or lightsaber). I have nothing against play guns or swords, I'm just glad that this gives my boys some hope of defending themselves.

My Pretend Place Subscription Box Review - Spring 2015 Costume

Superhero Reversible Mask - Value $2.99

Superhero Muscle Vest - Value $9.99

Red Superhero Cape - Value $15.99

Finally, here's the costume! Super Hero! The cape is velvety, which is really unique! The boys also tend to love costumes with built-in muscles. The best thing about this costume is that it is free-size enough so that I think both my sons can play in it. I think they will have a blast with this!

Verdict: My sons absolutely love My Pretend Place! This is the second costume box we have received from them, and I think both boxes were very well curated. The items in this box that have retail values only add up to about $43, but the cuffs kit is a kit designed by My Pretend Place, so it doesn't have a value on their site anywhere. But, their craft subscription is $15, which would put this box at about break-even point on value. In addition, we will receive little packages from them in May and June with activities and little add-ons that are cohesive to the theme for the quarter, and those are sent at no extra cost. I am happy with the value. This subscription is just really a lot of fun, and my sons both look forward to receiving it.

What do you think of My Pretend Place?

Hi Anna,

Thanks for the great review! I’m so happy it’s a hit.
Just to clarify, you indicated the retail items of all but the craft are $36.00, but they’re actually $43.00. It looks like you forgot either the book or the shield. So when you add the superhero cuff craft and the two additional months of fun, the value is definitely over the $50 cost. Also, you don’t mention it, but there’s a 30% off the first box offer right now. Just use code pretend.
