Golden Tote $49 Tote Review – April 2015

Golden Tote $49 Tote Review – April 2015 Tote

Golden Tote is one of my favorite monthly packages – and I think a good deal of my wardrobe is now from Golden Tote items!

If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month you get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. (The surprise items are completely different from the pieces you pick from).

FYI – This is not a typical subscription, each month they release a new collection and you can decide whether or not you want to buy it. For returns it’s an all-or-nothing deal. You can return the entire tote for a refund, but you can’t return individual pieces.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Golden Tote $49 Tote Review – April 2015 White Top

Draped Jersey Tank – Value $35

(95% Rayon, 5% Spandex)

This is the item I picked for the $49 tote. This fabric is so soft and lightweight – and of course it drapes beautifully. It is slightly sheer though – so I’ll have to layer it over a tank. I originally wanted to get this top in black but it was sold out (I had a very frustrating time trying to buy from Golden Tote this month), but I’m happy with the top in white too. It will look great with jeans.

Golden Tote $49 Tote Review – April 2015 Dress

Everly Print Dress – Value $40?

(100% Rayon, Lining 100% Polyester)

This dress is lined and has adjustable straps (two things I love in a dress, but didn’t think I’d get in a $49 tote item). I’m also happy with how the dress drapes. The print is a little bold for me, but it works as a stand-alone short dress. (I don’t think I could rock this print in a maxi). And I like the back detail too:

Golden Tote $49 Tote Review – April 2015 Back

Verdict: I think $49 totes are always a little riskier than the $149 tote because you’re only getting one other item, so if you don’t love it, that’s a big miss. Fortunately for me, I like my surprise item this month. (And I bought this tote with a $149 tote, so I didn’t have to pay for shipping).

Items aside, I found the Golden Tote ordering process for April to be very frustrating. I appreciate that they added reserving items in your cart for 10 minutes, but it seems like that makes everything go out of stock immediately. (Plus the site was SO slow when the April tote launched at noon). I think my new approach will just be to wait til about an hour after the tote goes on sale to order.

Did you order from Golden Tote this month? Were you able to get the items you wanted? (FYI – $149 Tote review coming soon!)

  1. hi, if anyone has the Pleated Pocket Dress, and Draped jersey Tank they want to swap please let me know! Thanks

  2. The dress is pretty. I think I will have to sign up for goldentote after all.

  3. Just got my first GT! I got the $149 one, and I got six items–4 dresses (two of them were my picks) and 2 tops. I asked not to receive pants.

I am SO excited! I had a bad time on ordering day, and they fixed it completely and made sure that I got the two items I wanted. I had an amazing customer service experience. Will definitely order again.

I don’t LOVE everything I got, but it is all cute so I will see how swapping goes on the swap site.

  4. This was the first month that I ever tried Golden Tote. I ordered on the 16th… My account still shows the order as pending or processing. Is this unusual? How fast do they usually process and ship an order?
    Thanks in advance! 🙂

    • They typically ship in the order that orders are placed, and takes up to two weeks for them to get through the orders from release day. I’m guessing if you ordered on the 16th, your order is in the 6000s, with orders on the 14th starting in the 4000s. If you recently went to processing, they should be working on your tote now. One thing that helps is they generally don’t actually draw the money from your account until your order is close to shipping. So when you initially place the order, you’ll see a pending charge that eventually gets reversed. Keep an eye on it, and when you see it draw funds again, for real this time, it generally means your tote will be shipping that day or the next.

  5. That shirt would look good with the kitch necklace that is in the pop sugar may box spoiler.

  6. Both of those items are super cute ! I have been wanting to try this sub, but I feel its just too much of a risk for me as many of the items just are not my style.

    • If you were to try it I would personally say get the 149 tote just so you can have more options. Also the trading group on Facebook is wonderful because you can trade something that didn’t work for you for something that does. I might give it another month or so tho if your new because they are still working out issues with the new website. If your still unsure check out the Facebook trade group and that might give you a better idea on what kind of surprises you might get.

  7. Hi Liz,
I’m always tempted by this sub but I am short and alot of tops and dresses are too low cut and just hang on me. The draping on the white top looks pretty. How tall are you?

    • I’m 5’7″. They’ve added a pretty in-depth style profile section to the site, so I think you should be able to let them know your preferences on length.
