On the back of the card is a little graphic that shows you how to combine scents to create a fragrance you will like. The profiles listed are floral, fresh & citrus, earth & woody, and musk & oriental.

Darby Smart included all the materials I needed, with lots of extra essential oil to play with in the future! The essential oils they included are lavender, geranium, and cucumber melon, with grapeseed oil as the base.

Darby Smart To DIY For Subscription Box Review – April 2015 Perfume

Ta-da! It's a perfume bottle! There really wasn't any picture I could possibly take in this case to let you know how my project turned out. It's a really cute perfume bottle, though, and I like that it has a spray pump! I went for the citrus & fresh scent profile, and it turned out smelling super fresh! It smells like some really fancy soap, but a little stronger and with staying power. My husband really likes it!

All that was required in terms of making this DIY was adding oils to the bottle in the formula they provided. It was a little nerve-wracking because I was afraid I would create some kind of monster scent, but it was totally easy!

Verdict: I am a huge fan of Darby Smart, primarily because I love their project selections. This was a fun, fast project that produced a nice fragrance I can actually wear. Plus it's kind of cool that I have my own custom fragrance that no one else has! I say that because I messed up the formula a little. I also really appreciate that the formula has no alcohol, unlike many fragrances. It's just so drying! I always think the value of Darby Smart is great, especially when compared to the time, cost, and effort of gathering your own craft supplies.

The only issue I had this month is that while they provided information on four possible fragrance profiles, they only provided the materials needed to make two of the four possible choices. When I looked at the instructions online, it said to look in their shop for other essential oils you would need to make the other two scent profiles. That seemed a little sneaky. Otherwise, another month, another great project!

What do you think of Darby Smart?

I got Darby Smart one month and was not a fan of the project. However, when I saw this box on the swap site I was in love! I also thought it was strange that they didn’t provide ideas on how to make different scents.Though it’s understandable why they provided three essential oils–they’re very expensive! I went to GNC, Whole Foods, Aveda, and another vitamin shop to price them [I wanted bergamot], and they cost anywhere from $6 to $30 depending on what you choose! Most were in the $10-$30 range at Whole Foods, and the bottles were much smaller. This weekend I’ll probably make one!

I am tempted to subscribe but I would never find the time to complete these projects and i can see the boxes piling up on my desk. So I won’t. Looks fun though.

I enjoyed reading your review. It looks like fun although it reminds me of a little of BBW. I think it is the cucumber melon scent. A part of me wished I got the box because they are scents that I enjoy. I should check swap.
