Birchbox Plus Review + Coupon - April 2015 Box

Every month Birchbox offers a few different "plus" items you can add to your subscription at a discounted rate. This is the first month I took advantage of their plus offerings - I had to have this Rifle Paper Co. tote!

Birchbox Plus Review + Coupon - April 2015 Florals

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Birchbox Plus Review + Coupon - April 2015 Tote

Rifle Paper Co. Tote – Value $35 (Cost to add to box: $28)

I believe this tote has sold out (or was available exclusively as a plus item, because I can't find it on their site anymore). I'm happy I added it to my box this month - it is really well made, and so beautiful! It's also a little larger than your typical tote bag, and it has an additional canvas lining making it extra sturdy.

Birchbox Plus Review + Coupon - April 2015 Box

Birchbox is one of the original beauty subscription boxes, and one of my personal favorites. (I’ve discovered so many new brands through this subscription, and their rewards program is the best!)

This month I decided it was time to have more than one subscription - I wanted the curated box and a sample pick box!

Birchbox Plus Review + Coupon - April 2015 Open

Also I had to get a Rifle Paper Co. designed box - I wished they designed Birchbox boxes every month!

Birchbox Plus Review + Coupon - April 2015 ITems

Birchbox Plus Review + Coupon - April 2015 Info

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included and some tips on how to use them.

Birchbox Plus Review + Coupon - April 2015 POP

POP Beauty Portfolio Eye Shadow Palette in Peach Parfait Trio - Value $4?

This was my sample choice for this box. (I just can't resist a palette in a subscription box!) I'm happy with the amount of pigment in these shades, they blend well together, and the shimmer is subtle so it is great for daytime looks.

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Brightening Illuminator - .04 oz Value $10.20

The Cynthia Rowley beauty line is exclusive to Birchbox, and I've liked other products I've sampled from her line, so I was excited to try this. It's a pink pearlescent liquid highlighter, and a little goes a long way. (The coloring reminds me of Benefit's High Beam).

Birchbox Plus Review + Coupon - April 2015 Wei

WEI Manuka Bee Venom Mask (1 Pod) - Value $7.50

This is an anti-wrinkle mask, and I can't wait to try it. (I feel like bee venom beauty products have been trending lately as natural Botox alternatives, and I'm curious!)

Birchbox Plus Review + Coupon - April 2015 Beaver

Beaver Professional Hydro Nutritive Moisturizing Shampoo - 2 oz Value $3.50

Beaver Professional Hydro Nutritive Moisturizing Conditioner - 1.35 oz Value $3

Unfortunately for me this shampoo is made with sulfates, and I have to avoid that ingredient in hair care products since my hair is color treated. They will make good swaps/gifts though!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $28. I think the value is great, and I'm happy with the products/brands included, and the sizes of the samples. And I can't wait to try my bee venom mask!

What do you think of the April 2015 Birchbox? Did you get any Birchbox Plus add-ons this month?

Has anyone noticed that customer service has gone down hill lately. I have yet to receive my April box. I’ve called several times and they either say they will reship or to wait. Finally today May 5th the customer service said I guess we’re out of April sample boxes. She told me she would send me a complimentary June box since I missed the cut off time for May. I had to explain to her over a dozen times it’s technically not complimentary because I’ve already paid for it and have to wait 3 months. After that she still wouldn’t offer me any compensation for the 3 month wait!

I actually used the Beaver shampoo and it just ripped the color out of my hair. The water was actually dark. I was shocked. I have used LOTS of shampoos and that had never happened to me before. That product is total crap. Beware!

This was my first Birchbox and I loved my box. I don’t plan to participate in the chose your sample thing so I can’t comment on that. My box had Cynthia Rowley illuminator wich I’m excited to try,Super Goop eye cream with spf. I’m especially happy about this because most eye cream with spf burns my eyes but Super Goop doesn’t. One of my favorite products. I also got the Wish shave cream in blueberry. Love the scent and how close of a shave it gives. Beauty Protector hair oil. I have really thick hair that is really long-past my butt-and hair oil is always appreciated in sub boxes. Last product was Temple Spa body lotion. Smells amazing, leaves my skin super soft. A fabulous box.

This is my second box. My first box I ordered late in the month and they gave me so-so products, but I thought hey, they are probably giving me left overs. But my second box, I tried MANY MANY MANY times to choose a sample, I wanted the eye shadows because they were so pretty, but the website wouldn’t let me submit my choice for whatever reason. And out of the only 2 boxes I got, I’ve received shampoo and conditioner. I only got one thing I’m really excited to use which is a serum to reduce redness. And I got even a jumbo lip pencil, I’m sort of excited to use. Otherwise I got shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, all that smells bad to me.

I got my Birchbox today – first time with the $30 beta box. I noticed something funny and not sure if this was an error or done on purpose, but my shipping label reads “Ship To: The Bubbly Michelle (insert last name)”… I smiled when I saw this as I’ve not had a good day and whether a mistake or not, I was amused 🙂

It’s not a mistake! Mine changes every month.. this month I got “The Shining [x]”

Just got my box today and my eye shadow palette was completely smashed. I emailed customer service. Does anyone know if they replace damaged items?

I got my Box today and the tote add on as well. The tote is beautiful and I’ll start carrying it right away, however I’m disappointed that it doesn’t have any pockets! I would like at least a cell phone pocket, but a zippered pocket would have been nice too. Oh well. I got the Jane ireda,e chosen sample and it’s tiny but very cute. I didn’t try it yet. Also got the eye shadow palette, whish shave cream in blueberry, a hair see rum and a facial peel

Very disappointed with this month’s box. I hate getting shampoo and conditioner! I feel that they bring down the value of the box. There is nothing in the box that I will use this month. Having said that, I love the box and am usually happy with BB.

I just got my April box and liked it, but it’s a little frustrating to get items that I know I’d like but in the wrong shade. For example, I got the Jouer lip/cheek tint and I like the texture and the cute little packaging, but I got the orangey one instead of the pink one. I know that’s the way of subscription boxes, so I’ll just suck it up. 🙂 I will say the gorgeous floral box it came in was almost worth the $10 itself — soooo pretty! I can see why many of you also bought the floral tote. I never get emails from BB offering me options like that or offering the chance to get certain samples or special edition boxes (like Mad Men). They don’t even email to say my box has shipped. I wonder why?

lisad

I just received my mad men box (love it) and that adorable tote bag. They shipped both together. The tote is very well made and will last I’m sure. I originally purchased this as a gift but I’m keeping it, it will make a great spring/summer tote for sure.

I’ve been subscribing to BB for 9 months now and I have really been trying to happy or even satisfied with what I recieve, however, for the last 3 months I am not feelin the love =(. Honestly, I never receive anything in the sneak peeks and have received both perfume and body care items in my last few boxes. The only 2 items I don’t use. I have taken my quiz over twice and no changes. Does anyone have suggestions? I appreciate all samples and I don’t wish to complain and bring everyone down.

I agree, the last few months have been horrible! And i’m in my 2nd year of subscription. I always get lip product even though I say please no more then 4 a year on my profile. So many hair oils, face oils and perfumes…i’ll give it a few more months but most likely won’t be re subscribing for another year, its just not worth it. And I also never get any of the items in the sneak peak. My friends who monthly subscribe get the roll on mascara, the beauty blender and other cool items that i never got. SO FRUSTRATING as a long time sub.

Caddie

I feel the same way. I’ve been a subscriber for nearly two years now and had really been loving my boxes, but I feel like they’ve taken a turn since I bought a year-long subscription last winter.

We’re only 4 months into 2015, and for three of those I received a shampoo and conditioner set. I don’t want to turn off the bath and body option because I love the occasional body wash and lotion, but this is silly. 🙁

Melody

I’m so excited I got the tote! It’s more money I didn’t want to spend BUT I really need a nice pretty spring/summer bag. Everything I own right now is dark. It will be perfect for the pool this summer. 🙂 can’t wait to see what I get in my box…I requested the eye shadow pallette too.

Liz or anyone that can help, Do the plus items, and your box come together? Or do they ship separate? Thanks for the help.

I think they ship together. My did not because there was an issue.

Thanks PA Anna. 🙂

I’m pretty disappointed. Long story short — I used to weigh over 300 lbs, didn’t care what I looked like. Gave up makeup 20 years ago. Recently lost a bunch of weight, started caring again. Figured sample boxes were a good way to “get back into it”. Really want makeup. Birchbox this month was the shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner, a body butter, and LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil. I’ll use them all, but . . .

PA Anna

I received my tote too! I like it a lot. My box is due to arrive this week. I am receiving:

1. Beaver Shampoo
2. Beaver Conditioner
3. LA Fresh Instant Body Soother
4. Jane Iredale PYS
5. Harvey Prince Hello Body Butter

I feel like I’ve been emailing BirchBox often in the past few weeks. I am unhappy to see a Made in China shampoo and conditioner in my box. Google it. My concerns are the environmental factors. I can’t use it anyway because sulfate agitates my rosacea.

nana

I think it’s too big a risk to use any product on your body that is produced in China. There are so many horror stories about production there and no way for the consumer to know whether anything made in China is safe.

Reply ButtonReply

nana

Well, the Real Chemistry peel that I got is actually made in China. Too bad ’cause that’s the product I was most wanting to try. I’ll put it out to swap for people who don’t care.

Without counting it – and I think products form China shouldn’t be counted – my box had a total value of $10.50, which is very disappointing.

PA Anna

BB’s take on this is that I should trust them and the product because they are sending it to me. I’m done once my sub runs out. It doesn’t matter what amazing LE or points or specials they have available.

Emma

I think a more accurate price estimate for the eyeshadows is $7. I found this palette for $24 with 10 eyeshadows that seem to be the size of the ones that came in your box: http://www.dermstore.com/product_Bright+Up+Your+Life+Palette+-+Naturally+Bare_53972.htm

So each shade would be valued at around $2.4.

I love this box tho, and the tote is SO cute, I wish I added it to mine!

Catherine

That tote is awesome – I am sooooo jealous right now 🙂

Jamie

I also got the tote and it surpassed my expectations with the amazing quality of it. It’s cute, but not my style I bought it for a gift for my mom. I think she’ll love it.

Reply ButtonReply

Cristina

I don’t care about the products honestly, I just want that box! It’s sooo cute.

Reply ButtonReply

Christina

That tote looks really pretty, nicer than it originally looked! I don’t see it anywhere on the website either.
I got the Jane iredale lip (my choice- I’m so glad it’s in the shop now b/c I’ve wanted it since getting it in a different sub), supergoop eye cream, ojin hair oil vial, Harvey prince lotion, and Not soap Radio body wash. Overall I’m happy with my box.

Madhu

I managed to put another tote in my shopping bag, and went as far as checking out. Maybe a glitch, but I can buy it for sure!

Reply ButtonReply

Gabbi

Where did you find it?? I’m dying to get this tote!

Kathryn

Do you just make another account with a different e-mail if you want multiple boxes?

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Yep!

Reply ButtonReply

Mary

Why do they make you do it that way when surely they see it’s going to the same physical address, i.e., the same person?

Also, what is the difference between a “sample pick” box and a regular one? Do you always get 5 different products in each?

Maddy

I am not sure if this works for everyone, but I saw the Rifle paper tote in the shop on the app. I ordered it on April 1 and got it last week itself. The picture says Sold Out,but you will be able to add it to the cart.

I received both of my curated boxes last week and just now got shipping for my upgraded account. Also I couldn’t even see what I was getting till yesterday, & I’m not sure if what I’m getting is really worth the extra money or time it takes to get to me. I think everyone with the upgraded accounts are getting the same thing which include the Beaver shampoo and conditioner, a nail polish, two of the sample choices, and a set with a mascara and eyeliner I believe. I guess I’ll wait till I have it to see if I actually think its worth it. Also I love that Cynthia Rowley highlighter, it’s beautiful!

This coupon code doesn’t seem to work either.

Yes, I tried the coupon code yesterday–it doesn’t work. Bummer.

I have two subscriptions because I always like getting one special box and one regular currated box. My regular box had the beaver conditioner and shampoo (which quite frankly I’m tired of getting shampoo and conditioner samples), the bee venom mask which I am stoked to try, the blueberry whish shaving cream (super nice for traveling) and the jouer tint in petal (which is cute but not something ill use much). Between both boxes, i feel like i got a pretty good deal this month. Loved the madmen box though!
