Tommy John Cool Cotton Trunk - Value $29

Birchbox Man now allows subscribers to select one of the items in their box each month, and for April I picked these out for my husband. (My logic was, practical item + worth more than the cost of the box = likely win). Turns out my husband was more excited about these boxers than I expected. Apparently, Howard Stern talks about them a lot, so he wanted to try them out. The verdict is that they are good, but probably not worth the $29 cost per pair.

Parlor Reworkable Hair Paste – .5 oz Value $4

We received this exact same item in our March Birchbox Man box (which isn't supposed to happen). A few days after receiving this box I got an email from Birchbox apologizing and including a 20% off coupon for all PARLOR products. I don't consider a coupon to spend money an apology gesture, but I absolutely love this product, so I have no complaints, and I'm actually happy about the duplicate. (It has the best scent!)

Billy Jealousy Illicit Pearlized Body Wash - 1 oz Value $2.50

We've sampled quite a few Billy Jealousy items over the years thanks to Birchbox Man, and I think my husband has liked all of them. I'm sure he'll like this body wash too!

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – April 2015 Cologne

English Laundry Cambridge Knight Cologne - Sample Value $1.50

I hope Birchbox Man soon starts offering curated boxes just like Birchbox does - it is the best way I've found to avoid perfume/cologne samples. This cologne smells great, I just hate getting tiny samples like this in subscription boxes, especially when our box only has 4 items to begin with.

Verdict: Our box has a value of about $37. I'm glad my husband got to try the boxers he was interested in at a discount, and the Parlor and Billy Jealousy items will be used too. This is a pretty good Birchbox Man box for us - not a favorite, but not bad either.

You should get a Sample Choice email sometime on the 14th. Be watching for it, because the choices go quickly. If it gives you the option to share your box to Facebook or Twitter, you can get your email a day early, but since you’re a new subscriber, I don’t know if you’ll get that option this month. The video shows you how to do it, though, so I’d just keep checking back if the share buttons aren’t there initially.

Just signed up my husband for the sub…really hoping he gets the Tommy John trunks!! I emailed them and asked them, so hoping for the best!

I’m hoping that if he gets more boxes, he won’t notice how many I’M getting…

I signed by husband up in order to reach ace status 🙂 we didn’t get to pick a sample, but he also got the undies, which would have been my pick if I had gotten to choose so that was awesome. He actually really likes them so I scored points with him as well. He doesn’t really care about the grooming stuff (he’ll use whatever I have in the shower which was also a reason I signed him up!), so I’ll see what the spoilers are for next month before deciding whether to continue. I may have to play the sub-unsub game and only do months where I know he would use at least a couple of the marquee items (not sure if I need to have him on there continuously in order to get sample choice for him… And it’s expensive if you don’t really like the big item, IMO).

I really wish the did a woman’s version like this. It would be awesome to get accessories, undies, wine glass etc.

I picked the happy socks this month for my boyfriend because he loves ridiculously bright and patterned socks. The ones we received weren’t even listed in the shop and super awesome! If anyone else got the happy socks and doesn’t want them, I’m all over the swap site looking for them 🙂 I love that they let us pick the big ticket item and even more importantly, this month I liked them all!

This was my husband’s first box, so I didn’t get to pick an item, and he got the Harvey Truman razor ($10 value), the parlor paste, and very small soap and lotion samples. The stuff wasn’t worth the $20 box cost which was disappointing. My husband also gets blades from DSC and listed in his profile that he doesn’t shave often hoping to not get a lot of shaving stuff, but that didn’t work. We’ll get it another month and see if it’s better, but the first box was a bust for us.

Hi Liz! Just wondering if you could work some of your magic and get an update from French Box?? I was snooping on their FB page last night and noticed they haven’t posted anything since March 12th. I did see they answered some customer posts but they ignored the ones asking for an update. It looks like customers have begun filing CC disputes after receiving no response to their requests. Thanks!

I emailed for an update and asking whew would receive a box and have not gotten a response so I did dispute with my credit card company.I know they are trying hard to fix things but no update in close to a month is not the way to do it.
