GlossyBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – March 2015 Box

Updated: April 8th, 2019

FYI - Since this review was first published, GlossyBox has changed a lot. They were acquired by The Hut Group, a UK based company that also owns the Look Fantastic Beauty Box. (Both of these boxes were named 2 of the Best Beauty Subscription Boxes in the 2019 Subscription Box Awards.)

The packaging is still just as lovely, and they've now expanded to several Limited Edition boxes and Advent Calendars. Check out our recent GlossyBox reviews to get a good sense of what to expect from this subscription box before subscribing.

GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually deluxe-size or full size, and the value is usually really good too. The only issue with this box seems to be the late shipping – I would recommend just keeping that in mind and setting your expectations accordingly if you sign up for this box.

(Based on some of the comments on the February review, it also looks like GlossyBox is starting to send out more variations for subscribers each month, so this box may not be exactly what all subscribers receive for March).

GlossyBox sent us this box for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – March 2015 Info

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included.

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – March 2015 Concealer

Bellapierre Cosmetics Cheek & Lip Stain in Pink - FULL SIZE! Value $20

So Susan Concealer Quad - FULL SIZE! Value $31

I've sampled this cheek and lip stain before, and I like the formula. It is highly pigmented, so a little goes a long way, and I prefer it more as a cheek stain so I blend it in more.

I was excited to see a concealer quad in this box - I imagine with blending, this will work for a variety of skin tones as a concealer, highlighter, and/or contouring cream. I didn't think it provided enough coverage for under eye circles, but I like it as an overall concealer.

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – March 2015 Ouidad

Ouidad Color Preserving Shampoo - 2.5 oz Value $5.30

Ouidad Color Preserving Conditioner - 2.5 oz Value $5.90

I've sampled some of Ouidad's curl enhancing products thanks to Birchbox, but these seem more my style since I usually end up straightening my hair every day!

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – March 2015 Brows

ModelCO More Brows in Medium/Dark - FULL SIZE! Value $15

This is basically a mascara for brows. It is designed to make brows look fuller and darker. The formula has a very natural-looking result, but this shade is a little too dark for my brows.

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – March 2015 Cream

Orogold Cosmetics 24K Multi Vitamin Day Moisturizer (2) (15 g total?) - Value $58

This is a relatively lightweight cream - it absorbs quickly and is very moisturizing. It's a luxe packaged and priced beauty item, and it definitely feels luxe. The only thing I don't like about it is that it has a perfume-like scent. It isn't very strong, but something to keep in mind if you have sensitive skin and need to avoid fragrance in skin care products.

(Also - I think the reviews for this product on their site look fake. I could be wrong, but the email addresses for the user names don't seem legit).

Verdict: I think this is a great GlossyBox. I'm happy with the sizes of all the products, the variety of items included, and the brands. The value of this box is incredible too ($135). That's assuming I've estimated the right size on the day cream, but either way the value is great.

What do you think of the March GlossyBox?

I received a coupon to design my own cell phone case at $100 value(the values listed were from $5-$100) it was part of my product info fold out card! I’ve read through most comments and read Liz’s review but no one has mentioned this so I’m wondering if anyone else got this too?!?! I’m pretty excited I got the highest value coupon especially since this box sucked(I got the concealer quad, brow gel, lip & cheek stain, 2 orogold’s, & the big bottle of the nexxus shampoo). The coupon for the design your own phone case isn’t listed anywhere I can find! Not even on my acct. Details, or under box contents. Did anyone else get this????

It was on my fold out card, too, but mine was only $5. Not really worth mentioning. lol Awesome for you, though!

So I finally received my very first Glossybox today. Mine was in the “packed stage” for quite some time so I sent them a message through their website on the 24th. By the next day I received a response stating my box was about to ship and they provided a tracking number. I was apprehensive to see what I would get in the box, but surprisingly I received everything that was in the review. I was also pleasantly surprised with how quickly they got back to my message. I wouldn’t have minded the eyeliner instead of the brow gel (I have naturally thick brows), but I was still happy with what I received. I tried out the brow gel and it gave me a lot of definition. Can’t wait to see what happens next month!

Anyone else still waiting for their March box? Mine has been at the “pack” stage for weeks. I got the email that many others did about bad weather in Kentucky but I’m not buying it. 1) I live 4 hours west of Louisville and we didn’t have any horrendous weather – in fact, it was gorgeous. 2) 2 weeks later and still packing? I’ve canceled my sub but can’t get a refund or a box out of them for March. Really disappointed in their customer service.

This is sure to make the people who received “punishment” boxes upset. So the March box apparently sold out. At which point I contacted Glossybox because I had not yet received tracking on my March box. Took me about 5 days to hear back from them. They said they’d send me a box right away, and they did.

Got it today. Got everything Liz got except instead of the Ouidad products, I had an 8.5 ounce bottle of Nexxus Color Assure shampoo. Oh yeah, and an Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics loose color in “smote.” Which I have not heard anyone talk about this month. So it’s like they just stuck something extra in my box (it was not on the info. card).

So I have no idea what’s up with Glossybox. They do all right by me, but there are clearly complaints.

I’m underwhelmed by this box, but I like it better than the ‘classic’ box I received in February. I was so mad when I opened that one, because the whole reason my husband got me a subscription as a gift was because I saw Liz’s February review and was so excited for those items.

I emailed them about that box, but I just received a generic answer about there being several different variations of boxes being sent out, etc. They did send me a replacement product for the one damaged item though, so there’s that. 🙂

This month, I got the concealer quad, the eyebrow product, body butter from Tree Hut, Rich Moisture shampoo, and the OroGold skincare item.

I haven’t tried the concealer quad yet, but the packaging looks a little cheap. I just received a really awesome concealer in another box, so I’ve been using that one.

The eyebrow gel was too light for me and it didn’t look like anything at all on my brows, even after several swipes. The OroGold seemed promising but now after reading bad things about the company’s practices, I’m really apprehensive about trying it. I may be wrong and it may be a good product, but I’m just uncomfortable with it.

The shampoo has sulfates, so I don’t know if I want to try it on my color-treated hair. The body butter smells good and it seems perfect for summer, so that’s a plus.

Like everyone else, I really wish they would send out the same products to everyone, or at least the same value. It doesn’t seem like they really even look at the beauty profiles we fill out, because I put that I really love lip products and I didn’t receive any, either this month or last (even though others did). On the other hand, I don’t have a particular interest in receiving concealer or brow products, but I got them.

I’m going to ride my subscription out and see how the next months go, and then I’ll make my decision about resubscribing.

I got the “classic” box in January and actually LOVED it – it was my first box. I also LOVED the box I received n February even though it varied a bit from what Liz got. The Scalisi exfoliater is actually AMAZING – it has helped the problem areas of my skin so much.

Regardless of all my love for Glossybox I have to stick with my original comment about being disappointed this month. I’m holding out that April’s box is going to kick March’s BUTT. 😀

In case anyone is interested, Rue La La has 1- and 6-month subscriptions for GB at $15 and $95 respectively.

WendyW

I’m really bummed i didn’t get the eyebrow stuff. I actually held off buying some because I get two glossyboxes. I didn’t get it in either box. Grrr.

Reply ButtonReply

Rochelle

I would swap mine to you if you’d like 🙂

I was a little disappointed with gb for the first time. I was wondering if anyone had a allegic reaction to the orogold moisturizer?
First day I try it I got a rash I decided to try a second day and the rash got worst.

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

I’ve heard some people have a bad reaction to gold in skincare products. I think if I ever get this product, I will do a patch test first. (My Glossybox is finally being delivered today, but who knows what will be in it…)

I have found cortisone cream and Aveeno anti-eczema lotion to help clear up rashes from allergic reactions to skincare products.

I cancelled, ever since they started sending cheaper box variations I’ve gotten those versions. Glossy box was my first subscription box, just not doing it for me anymore. I got my box way late so I’m stuck in for another month before they will cancel it though.

Reply ButtonReply

April

See I feel a bit ripped off by GlossyBox this month I didn’t get the shampoo and conditioner that it looks like EVERYBODY else got. I got a straight off the WalMart shelf Nexxus shampoo.

Reply ButtonReply

Mary

One more day left in the month and I still haven’t received it and it’s still showing being packing. This was my first and last month trying glossybox it was a complete disappointment already and they are the more expensive box I tried.

Reply ButtonReply

Missy

Here it is the 30th and my box is now saying it won’t be here till April 4th, Really? Ridiculous! This box looks horrible, worst one Ive seen so far. I would like the brow gel but like everyone has said it appears to be quite dark. Booo GLOSSYBOX! And I have had ALOT of trouble with customer service and overcharging. I sincerely hope glossy has read all these comments and seriously improves next months box. March’s box is a joke!!

Reply ButtonReply

EC

My brow gel is so light it’s useless (I have black hair). I had no idea they sent “classic” (read: leftovers) boxes to some. I’d be furious if I got one of those. I just recommended glossy to a friend last night. Now I’m having second thoughts. April is the last of my current 3 month sub and whether I renew will depend on my Apr box. I got “lucky” for Mar apparently though I did get the Nexxus shampoo (no conditioner), and received the concealer palette, lip/cheek tint (sadly it’s so dry it won’t even blend and I could barely pick up any color from the container, period). I found the concealer to also be super dry and very hard to apply as a result. The Oro Gold was 2 tiny samples and I’m not a fan of the company in general. And my brow gel, well, it’s worthless to me since I’m not blonde.

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

So do you think most of that stuff is expired products? (So Susan concealer)

Kenya

I was thinking the same exact thing about that concealer quad. How in the world does anyone get the concealer out of there!? It’s sooo dry. I can barely, and I mean barely, get it out with my finger.. Let alone my brush. It’s like dried candle wax. Anyone have any tips or tricks on use!?

Emily

Wow, well, I am slightly heartened to see that I’m not the only one disappointed with my March box. I got the Bellapierre, More Brow (too light) and the Orogold, plus a Ouidad shine glaze hair serum (reeks of alcohol) and a Tree Hut body butter in a very overpowering coconut lime scent. This is just worlds away from the boxes I’ve received from GB over the last six months or so. I think this love affair is ending!

Reply ButtonReply

Rebecca

I just got my GB (finally!)

Instead of the shampoo & conditioner I got a hair mask.
Instead of the concealer I got an eyeliner.
Instead of the more brows I got a body butter.

What a letdown.

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

Meanwhile, I finally got a response from their CS. They dropped my March box in the mail today. I’m guessing I’ll be getting a box rather like yours.

I’m not going to get too upset if I don’t get the concealer (some of those shades were WAY too dark for me to do anything with) or the brow product (I prefer not to have really thick/full brows and I tend not to use brow-related cosmetics because of that).

I just can’t decide whether to resubscribe or not. This is the only month where I’ve had a problem, but being the last month of my annual subscription, it’s leaving an impression — and not a good one.

Reply ButtonReply

Abigail

Okay, for all those who thought THIS box was underwhelming listen to what I got in my Glossybox this month. Instead of the More Brows I got a Shea Body Butter from Tree Hut in Coconut Lime, and then the Rich shampoo instead of the Quidad. SOO I got the body butter AND the Orogold moisturizers. I don’t getting a cream every now and then especially if it works but two in one box I’m not a fan of. Plus the scents of the two were really just turn off for me (I’m one of those weird people who doesn’t like coconut).

Reply ButtonReply

rebecca

I got the same box as you, Abigail. Pretty disappointed as well. Posted my disappointment to their fb page, hoping if enough people complain they will learn from their mistakes? Oh, and one of my Orogold tubs was basically empty, which is just icing on the cake.

Reply ButtonReply

rebecca

Ha! And they deleted my comment from their Facebook page! Guess they don’t want people to know how many customers were disappointed with their boxes!

Sara

Don’t they sell tree hut at Walmart??? I’d be super mad, I was super mad last month after getting a different version box and complained immediately on their FB and I got replacement items that everyone was supposed to get. Like the shower gel, Hartleigh nail polish and the conditioner.

Reply ButtonReply

Adele

I just checked Walmart’s website and sure enough they are selling it for $5.88, 7 oz. That’s what we were supposed to get according to the card but instead ours is 2 oz. I complained on Facebook and they completely avoided what I had asked and told me to try the products. Since I pay through PayPal I filed a dispute under the options of quantity missing since I didn’t get 7 oz and that the value of my box isn’t the same as others.

Emily

Just to make those who did not receive feel better…the concealer is NOT very good! It is hard as a rock, not creamy at all, and coverage when you do get it out is not good. It looks much better than it is. That make up brand is highly overpriced.

Reply ButtonReply

EC

It’s beyond worthless. I couldn’t even pick it up with a brush (or my fingers). For a second I thought it was a kids’ toy makeup item! Or an early April Fools joke. So for me the concealer is a bust, the brow gel is unusable since I got the light shade (I have black hair), the Oro gold is basically a freebie, a drugstore shampoo (Nexxus), and the cheek/lip tint was also completely dry and therefore unusable. Where are they sourcing these products? Should we expect Mary Kay and Avon in the next box? At least they’re somewhat reputable anyway. But not what I want from a “discovery” type beauty sub. Thinking I’m saying goodbye (again, for the 5th time, lol) after my sub ends in Apr. Way too much variation and disparate values.

Reply ButtonReply

Helen

Yeah, I just tried the concealer. I think you’d have to have a hairdryer handy to soften it enough to get it out of the palette!

Reply ButtonReply

Emily

That’s a good idea, I might just try that.

Julie

My box was a little different – I got Rich Hair Care Shampoo instead of the Ouidad shamp/cond and got Tree Hut shea body butter in coconut/lime instead of the brow mascara. A little sad – I was looking forward to the brow stuff 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

lisa lynch

I received the body butter instead of the concealer, and hair serum instead of the shampoo/conditioner. Ugh to the body butter! I was looking forward to the concealer.

Reply ButtonReply

Alina

I always get excited after seeing the spoilers, and always get disappointed after I receive MY box. It’s never the same, and the best products (the ones I look forward to such as concealer) are substituted with something cheap (such as a hand moisturizer). I can’t complain, the box is nice, however what I find is that these spoilers are ALWAYS better than my box. But I’m guessing they put their best box and send it to Liz because it will be reviewed. Nice job Glossybox marketing, what can I say.

Reply ButtonReply

Katiemama6x

Did anyone else have any more input on the Orogold? I started reading consumer complaints online about the company and there were some really bad complaints and incidents with this company and their retail and online sales. I also wish I had an ingredient list and expiration date on my products…

Reply ButtonReply

Adele

I just opened my box and I’m so disappointed. Instead of receiving the concealer and eyebrow gel (the 2 items I was looking forward to) in their place I received Tree Hut Shea Body Butter in Coconut Lime ($7.49) and Pop Beauty Kajal Pen in Inky Purple ($10.00). Going off the amounts on the cards the box with the quad and gel is worth over $30 more dollars than mine. I sent them a message stating how disappointed I am and I asked them if they are going to do variation why can’t they make the changes to a comparable product or similar value. My first box was so good and this is a huge let down.

Reply ButtonReply

Adele

Below is the response I received from Glossybox (Facebook was faster). I wonder if it’s more about location (I live in CA) and items they have in stock more than anything else they said. I responded and said my Tree Butter size doesn’t match what’s on the card and this still does not address the price discrepancy. Wonder what they will come back with. I told myself I will give these boxes 3 months so if next month is like this, I’m out:

Hi Adele!
I hope you are having a lovely day!
Apologies for any confusion! Each GLOSSYBOX should contain 5 items that match the inserted product card. There are several variations of our GLOSSYBOXES each month, as we mix and match the products being promoted by the brands in contract for the month. For March, we had 12 products to choose from within nine different box versions.

The version received is based on factors such as beauty profile, age, location, sign-up date, GWP bonus items, as well as which products we have in stock. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that each and every product will be a perfect fit for every subscriber, but hope that the next box will make up for any possible disappointment with the items received. We are a beauty sampling and discovery service and aim to offer you the latest and greatest products in the industry.

I hope this clarifies a little more and that you enjoy the remaining deluxe samples in your GLOSSYBOX. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you so much!
The GLOSSYBOX team

Sara

Wow I’m so shocked by their customer service. Never before have they had “different versions of the GB”, everyone always got the same box. That’s the beauty of Glossybox! I subscribed for like 6 months last year, I always got the same box as Liz and everyone else. It seems they’ve just started this shady practice of “different versions” this year. This month I got the box that Liz got, I would’ve taken a different version since I didn’t love the box at all. But last month I got a different version and wanted the one that Liz got. Their customer service attitude shocks me, but I can’t say that I’ve had any bad run-ins with them. They’ve always fixed my issues and last month sent me the items everyone was supposed to receive.

Alina

I saw your comment after posting mine. The same exact issue I have. That is a very common thing for Glossybox to do. Not to mention their customer service is much worse than the rest of their competitors. Very disappointing, but if they do this long enough they will lose business.

Reply ButtonReply

Cynthia

I just received my box and I am disappointed also. I received the same items as Adele. I received Quidad 12 Minute Deep Treatment Hair Repair $10), Orogold (?), Tree Hut Shea Butter ($7.49), Pop Beauty Kajal Pen ($10) and BellaPierre Cheek and Lip Stain ($19.99). I was looking forward to the brow gel and concealer. I’m very disappointed and canceling Glossybox.

Reply ButtonReply

Kenya

Just curious… Are you all new subscribers? Wondering if they are giving these items to new subscribers for march..?

Katiemama6x

Adele, not to make you feel any worse but I got that body butter too and the $7.49 value is for the 7 ounce size. We got 2 ounces, if you go by the per ounce price it’s worth $2.14. :/ I also got a $3.99 shampoo that doesn’t have a conditioner with it, which I would like. This was my second box and I was disappointed.

Reply ButtonReply

Adele

I didn’t even notice that, thank you for pointing that out! I wonder how they will try to justify the discrepancy. I received the Ouidad 12 minute treatment, but I don’t blow dry my hair so the idea of standing around for 12 minutes holding a blow dryer does not appeal to me and I already have a good deep treatment that does not require heat.

Kenya

I still haven’t received mine but it was “packed” 2 weeks ago. I’m hoping since it was packed early maybe I’ll get the original items (brow gel and concealer quad)… Was yours packed awhile before you received?

Reply ButtonReply

Adele

Unfortunately, yes. It was on packed for awhile then they sent me the email last week saying it was shipping. Actually right now it still says it’s shipping, so that hasn’t updated.

Em

I’ve sent them emails about the same issue. I was expecting something worth ~$30 and got something worth less than $5! They wrote back trying to convince me that the soap was a “comparable” price. They’re a bunch of assholes. I like the boxes that get reviewed here and would happily continue to pay $21 for those boxes, but that’s never what I get. On top of that it’s like they require their customer service to treat you in the most condescending way possible.

I cancelled and think everyone else should do the same. Maybe then they’ll stop treating their customers like marks.

Reply ButtonReply

Audra

I agree. I am cancelling as well as cancelling the box I send my daughter; I’ll send her something else instead. I’m tired of consistently getting the second rate box.

Diana

Yes, the concealer quad is $30ish and the brow gel $18ish. I wouldn’t be happy either!

Reply ButtonReply

lisad

Last month I received a tiny soap sample and this month, I got a tiny tree hut trial size body butter and a rich shampoo (no conditioner) The other items matched up. I’m really not digging these variations especially when I seem to keep receiving the cheaper boxes lately. I have always liked glossybox but it may be time to move on. I honestly would not not paid the $21.00 for what I received this month and I received mine weeks later than normal this time as well.

Reply ButtonReply

Helen

I’m so annoyed with Glossybox I could spit! I JUST received my box, long after everyone else, it seems. There was no Bellapierre lip and cheek stain, instead a $2 Tree Hut body butter. No decent shampoo either, just a 2oz tube of ‘Rich’ shampoo.
I really despair of that shower at Glossybox, they couldn’t care less about their long term subscribers.
Last month I was one of the ‘lucky’ ones to get a $5 bar of soap instead of a Jelly Pong Pong mascara or the Scalisi. When does the abuse end?
OK, rant over! lol

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

I still haven’t gotten my box and I can’t get them to respond to my tweets or e-mails (have been trying for four days). Was thinking I’d resubscribe on a month-to-month basis (I have a year that’s almost up and I pre-canceled to avoid getting charged) but am beginning to question the wisdom of that. I may just choose a different beauty box in the same price range instead. And I was a big supporter of Glossybox for a long time.

Reply ButtonReply

Katiemama6x

I was a little bummed by my box this month too. This was my second of a three month sub and I don’t know yet if I’ll continue. I have been happy way more than not with my boxycharm if that helps. I’ve just subbed to the allure sample society but won’t receive until April so I can’t give a review on that. I hope you find one you love. 🙂

Em

I cancelled Glossybox and subscribed to Julep. It’s not quite the same because everything you get is Julep brand, but you do get to pick what comes in your box and you can swap it out to be all beauty items and no nail polish. This month I’m getting a $34 night mask, a $24 mascara, and a $16 nail oxygen treatment. The total cost (including shipping) was $24. I’m happy.

And there is still some surprise because they switch out which special colors and beauty products you can pick from.

Julep is a little sketchy in that you have to call to cancel, but whenever I want to make sure a subscription doesn’t charge me I just input my google wallet card # (which has like $0.20 or something on it) so if they try to charge me it will just get rejected. Google wallet is free to get so you can do the same.

Melisha

I am pretty pissed off at GlossyBox!! The charged me on 3/2/15, but have yet to ship my box…….20 days????!!!! I emailed them and the excuse was the weather was bad in Kentucky so they couldn’t ship it. BS!!! I know ALOT of people receive their box early March, so what’s the real hold up?? Oh, and is anybody else having trouble with their website? I can’t submit my Feb reviews. Grumble grumble grumble…………

Reply ButtonReply

Betty

Received the same email & am bummed out, just hoping I receive it soon !

Reply ButtonReply

Katiemama6x

Received that email too. I received my box yesterday (3/24) in Ca if that helps anyone.

Ashley

I got a full-size Nexxus shampoo and no conditioner (pet peeve), and I got a Pop Beauty Kajal Pen in inky purple instead of the brow gel (bummer). I’m underwhelmed.

Reply ButtonReply

Emily

Guess I’m in the same boat, just got an email with tracking #. Will arrive around the 25th. I think my Popsugar Resort box is going to beat it.
