Beauty Fix Subscription Box Review – March 2015

beautyfix-march-2015-

Beauty Fix is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box from Dermstore.com. This subscription was previously known as the Blush Mystery Beauty Box, and a week or two ago subscribers received an email letting them know their subscription would now be for Beauty Fix. I'm not sure yet exactly what the differences will mean, so I'll give a better summary once we are a few boxes in!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

And on the flip side is a coupon code for 20% off any DermStore purchase.

beautyfix-march-2015-skincare

Medicell Labs Advanced Youth Serum Concentrate - FULL SIZE! Value $60

We're off to a good start with a full sized serum! I'm happy to see this one is free of dyes, fragrances and parabens too. It has a gel-like consistency and a slightly tacky feel after applying at first, but that disappeared within a minute.

beautyfix-march-2015-shampoo

Julien Farel Haircare Hydrate Shampoo - FULL SIZE! Value $23

I'm always impressed to see a full sized shampoo in a subscription box - I'm so used to getting little 1 oz bottles! Unfortunately for me, this shampoo contains sulfates (which I avoid since my hair is color treated), so I will be swapping it.

beautyfix-march-2015-lip

Jenu Active Youth Lip Serum - FULL SIZE! Value $22

This is one of my favorite discoveries in the box. It is formulated without parabens, sulfates, triclosans, phthalates, or GMOs. It's also pretty much a transparent gloss because it gives a ton of shine, and no stickiness! The only thing a little weird about this item is that it is only part of a set needed to achieve the volume and fullness advertised on the packaging:

Revolutionary lip serum with advanced microsphere technology is activated by the JeNu ultrasound wand to deliver serious plumping results while hydrating the lips to make them smooth, soft, supple, and purely kissable.

When activated with the JeNu ultrasound wand, this hydrating and nourishing lip serum improves the look and feel of fine lines around the lip, smoothes away dryness, and leaves lips looking naturally full and healthy.

So you need to buy a $250 wand kit to get the full promised effects of this lip serum, but I'm totally fine with spending zero extra dollars and using it as a regular lip balm/gloss!

beautyfix-march-2015-lash

SmartFX Smart Lash Advanced Eyelash Enhancer - FULL SIZE! Value $20

(The DermStore site lists the retail price of this product as $125, and it is on sale for $19.95. I'm pretty sure that just means the $125 price was really inflated on purpose).

Pricing issues aside, I'm happy to see another full-sized product in this box. (FYI if you aren't looking for extra lash growth, Smart Lash also recommends using this on brows).

beautyfix-march-2015-samples

Dermalogica Samples (Active Moist and Special Cleansing Gel) - Value $1?

SkinCeuticals Eye Cream - .1 oz? Value $10.44

SkinCeuticals Advanced Pigment Corrector - .1 oz Value $9

SkinMedica Vitamin C+E Complex - .13 oz Value $12.74

These foil packet samples aren't listed on the card, so I have no complaints about added bonus items in the box. (If the were a featured item I would complain about the foil packets though!)

I had to guess on the size of the SkinCeuticals products since they weren't labeled with sizes, so my value estimates may be a little off. I'm excited to try both the eye cream and pigment corrector - I'm hoping the samples last me at least a week.

This SkinMedica formula goes on almost instantly matte, and has a bit of a powder finish - not what I was expecting, but I like it!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $158 - amazing for a $25 box. I'm very happy with the value and the size of most of the items. I think I'll use just about everything too. The only thing that feels missing from this box is a makeup item. I'm hoping that future Beauty Fix boxes include makeup - we'll see!

What do you think of the first Beauty Fix box?

My box was missing the serum as well, I messaged them on Facebook and they shipped me a serum through USPS. I didn’t have problems with their customer service. However, the product received took about 50 pumps to start working and says fragrance free, but I can’t even have it on my face long enough to stand it’s smell. Does anyone else’s serum smell? It’s kind of like alcohol mixed in with something spoiled.

It definitely smells like alcohol! Not my favorite product by far. I do like the eyelash growth formula though. My eyelashes look amazing after just a week, ten days. I wish I had taken before and after photos however, I wouldn’t pay $100 plus for it.

Had to send back my first box due to main full sz item missing ( Medicell youth serum), and after they received it, they sent me a replacement box.. With the same $60 medicell serum missing!!! I guess when the box became sold out for a day, it must have been due to item shortage, but they just decided to keep selling the box instead, regardless the fact that it is obvious they do not have all the items supposed to be included in the box.. Just call them and told them I am surely not taking my time to send the box back and wait for them to send me an incomplete box for a third time!!

My box is missing the full size Medicell Labs Advanced Youth Serum Concentrate, as well. I am so disappointed, because when I ordered this box, I purchased the monthly subscription, as well as several of the mystery bags and a few other bath and body products. All in all, I spent at least $200.

I cannot believe that they would send out this box knowing that it was missing the most valuable item promised. However, it’s also impossible to believe that whoever packed the box didn’t realize the full-size serum was missing. I am going to contact customer service about the missing item, but I’m not willing to ship my box back just to get another box with the same item missing. I also think receiving a $5 credit is worse than no compensation at all.

Any advice for dealing with customer service? This was my first month to subscribe to Beauty Fix and I did so because it was listed as one of the Best/FavoriteBeauty Supscriptions overall. I wasn’t thrilled with this box to begin with and now I’ve realized that the big ticket item is missing, I feel really foolish for wasting my money.

I contacted them and I told them I wasn’t sending my box back.. Again!!
They told me they would contact the Medicell supplier and ship the serum separately.

Was happy with that and I received an email with tracking info; the hic with that is that although tracking info was created on the 20th, nothing has been shipped, as proven when I click on the tracking shipment USPS link..

I email dermstore and if I do not hear from them with a logical answer for this shady tracking info, I will contest the charge with my cc.. Really dishonest of them to keep selling the March box knowing the main full size item is no longer available..

nana

I just got my box and same story. I just wrote to them, I’m hoping they will answer and substitute with a good product. Otherwise I’ll have to dispute it with my credit card company.

Marie

Horrible and beyond mad!! The Mecicell serum is missing from my box!! Obviously, the most expensive item is missing!! Useless foil samples in and outside the box, that’s about it!! Better get a replacement and not a $5 credit!! Will cancel otherwise!!

Although the value on this box is unbelievable, I’m a little bummed at the variety. I liked Blush because I felt it had a great variety of hair, make-up and skincare – but I just can’t get myself super excited to get a box of skincare. Even though it’s an awesome value, I will probably end up canceling because I don’t need that many skincare products at my age, especially at 24!

OK, I’m abandoning this site (kidding). I just subscribed to this as well AND got a grab bag. The subscription was $23.17 after the 15% discount you get for signing up for the mailing list and CA tax. Then they offered me the Winter Skin box for $30 and I went for it – not realizing that’s the regular price. Oh well.

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

Yes, got the same answer about the $19.95 promo price..:((.. Also, you can type in the search bar “grab bag” on deem store and 6 different choices pops up!!

They’re probably revamping their site. I am familiar with some of the products they carry and it’s pretty high end stuff at amazingly good prices. I never really trust discounted items from 3 party sellers but they seem to be trusted. I want a sample box because I want to try some of these items out before committing to those prices.
Marie, you said you went back to the site and the boxes were available, did you purchase?

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

Yes, I did purchased and received confirmation email for shipment couple hours ago!

Claudia

I know the DermaStore website but I’ve never seen the Beauty Fix boxes listed (maybe I didn’t pay attention). Now when I search for the boxes I get a message that they are discontinued or March box is sold out. There’s no was to sign-up for a box. Anyone had this experience?

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

Was sold out since yesterday but I tried again 5 mins ago and they are now available!

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

Had same issue do I called them and they told me March box is sold out and to wait on April box in order to subscribe.

Reply ButtonReply

Elizabeth

What I see on first page, the word discontinued. Then if you click on it, says sold out. ha wouldn’t be surprised if they do discontinue it.

Reply ButtonReply

claudia

I called this am and the March box is back in, at $24.95 (at repeat sub rate). I think that if you want more make-up and less skin care you have to order their color box. I just saw a comment from another poster who said the color box is a really good value. I myself like the skincare because color is much more of an individual thing. I’ve discovered so many brands/products that would never had been on my radar if I hadn’t been introduced via sampling. I want a sample that will last at least a week so that I can see if the product is working and not going to produce some horrible skin reaction.

Amy

BeautyFix was my first subscription box years ago. Back then you would be able to log on and choose your products every month. I wish they would do that again, because that was my favorite subscription ever!

Dermstore always has Smart Lash on sale and they advertise it like crazy. If they aren’t going to send cosmetics then why is it called BEAUTY Fix? That’s why I quit the Mystery Bag.

Reply ButtonReply

Pegi

I could swear they had the SmartLash in an earlier Blush Beauty box, but when I look back, I can’t find it so maybe it was a different sub. The price was $125 when I got it a year or so ago.

Reply ButtonReply

Elizabeth

They did put it in another box. Still have it from about a year ago?

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

I’m still glad I unsubscribed, I still have Julian Farel items I haven’t used yet, though a shampoo is nice. I don’t need all the skin care products, I have a boatload I still haven’t used. I did like the variety with hair, makeup and skin care. This one had no makeup, the lip stuff is weird if you can’t get the full set. I’ll be reading the reviews, but nothing here makes me want to resub.

Reply ButtonReply

Sherry

Wow what a great box! (besides the sulfate shampoo) A skincare/haircare box def appeals to me as I just have sooo much makeup!! I will wait one more box though before pulling the trigger just to confirm that’s their new direction.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

The Dermstore website also has 4 different “mystery box” grab bags on sale for anyone who’s interested. I can’t help but wonder if it will be repeats from past Blush Mystery Bags tho.

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

I ordered the Color Connoisseurs Grab Bag (7 piece) and it values at over $110! I got Laura Geller Volumizing mascara, travel and full size, Laura Geller waterproof eyeliner, a Skylark nail polish set, Jane Iredale highlighter, a Sigma travel brush and Lavanila pure vanilla perfume and a really nice big makeup bag from the Dermstore. Plus when I ordered it I got a 2 yr subscription to Martha Stewart Living. I’m impressed with their grab bags, this is the 3rd or 4th one I’ve ordered.

misha

This doesn’t seem different at all from their old sub. I have received julie Ferrell and smart fx brand in the blush mystery beauty bag before. I didn’t subscribe this month, but am glad to see there isn’t much of a change besides branding

Reply ButtonReply

Debbie

I actually prefer skincare over makeup, so this box is perfect for me!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Heathery

Oh wow, I would have loved this box! Oh well, trying to watch my spending. /sob

Lynne

I’m still glad I cancelled my subscription with them. I’ve received two if the Julien Farel shampoos in past boxes a month apart. I’ve not even used them yet.

I’m still going to keep my eyes on the reviews on this sub to see if it improves like it was when I was first subscribed.

Wendy Z

I have had cc issues with them since I changed my expired cc in January. So I had to call in this month again, and she told me she could cancel my old sub, sign up for a new sub for $19.99 a month. So I was charged $21.60 w tax. She said this price is available for call in only. Worth a try if you want to sub.

Reply ButtonReply

Taya

I emailed about this and they said the $19.95 price ended on the 8th…so I said that’s weird because I know of someone that signed up after that and got it. I haven’t gotten a response back yet.

I just called and asked about that pricing and was told it was for the first few days of the box being on sale, that it was a one time price and that it will be going back up to $24.95 a month. She also said it COULD go on sale again, but she don’t know.

I’ll probably try calling again tomorrow and see what the next person says lol

Rachel

Thanks so much for posting about the $19.99 price! I called and have it locked in. Yayyy!

Reply ButtonReply

Taya

You ordered it on the 11th, right? Could I please have your order number? They replied back to me and said if I provide it I can get the $19.95 price

Marissa

Wow! This seems like an amazing box to me! Although I just canceled ipsy due to too much makeup so the lack of beauty in here is perfect! Definitely trying for a more beautiful natural look and with good hair, lashes, and skin I can see why they would still consider that to be a huge beauty fix, I sure do!

Great unboxing! This box doesn’t appeal to me but the video was great and fun! Can’t wait for videos on other boxes!!

Seems like Dermstore is trying to promote Medicell. I got a few Medicell products from the Eye Grab Bag. I cancelled this box last year cuz I can’t take more dry shampoo/shampoo…

Reply ButtonReply

Christina

I just bought this after seeing there was Smart Lash included! I recently got one in a swap and have been using it on the “tail” ends of my eyebrows that have been nonexistent for such an amount of time I don’t recall having them! That may be aging and/or related to my hypothyroidism, but my gosh I have actual eyebrow hairs there again?!?! Not fully bushy brows, but probably 5 full length hairs on each tail. There were zero hairs there before (no growth, no short hairs). I’ve been using it for at least 6 weeks now. I thought it did cost $125, so it’s certainly a steal in this box for me! I’m excited to see if there are more to grow in the future.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

That’s exactly what I was thinking of using this for! I have spots where I’ve overplucked and it hasn’t grown back so I’m hoping this will revive those few hairs.

Reply ButtonReply

Chelsea c

Unsubbing this month! Too many skin care items! I loved this box for the variety of it, there’s nothing fun in here, even though the value is great. Maybe I’ll resub if this blush comes out with boxes more compatible with me
