This month, we received two postcards to my seven-year-old (yes, he turned seven over the weekend!). The one on the left describes the whole concept of Reiko Rose, and the one on the right is a postcard from Reiko telling about her adventures during the past month.

This is the blank postcard we received to send to a friend. It's very cute and colorful! Over the past year I have encouraged my kids to become interested in snail mail, mainly to practice their writing. I have a feeling this one will be going to Grandma pretty soon!

These little shell erasers are adorable! For some reason, the first graders at my son's school are very, very interested in novelty erasers, so these were an instant hit!

This jellyfish room decoration came folded up, and my son and I had a hard time figuring out what it was or what to do with it. I finally got it inflated, but it was not through any obvious process. It is cute, but he wasn't too interested in hanging it in his room.

My son was kind of insulted that his box included flower hair clips, so I had to explain to him that they probably didn't know if the box was for a girl or for a boy when they packed it for him. However, I don't see boy / girl customization options on the web site. The main page refers to 'the child in your life' in a unisex manner, but at the bottom of the order page, there is an option to input the child's birthday so that they can send something extra to 'your little girl' on that month. So I guess it's a subscription box just for girls? It's a little unclear.
In any case, my son gave me the hair clips, which worked out fine. They are really pretty, and since we celebrated his birthday over the weekend I went ahead and wore them. They made me look a lot more festive (and only slightly more silly)!

Even though the chain is pink, my son loved this. It's a little bit of Hawaii in a bottle! It has a tiny shark's tooth in it (along with sand and shells), so I guess that overrides the pink in terms of coolness. He wore it all weekend!

Our origami project this month was fish, and let me just tell you, googly eyes are everything to a seven-year-old! The instructions are on the left. I did the folding, he glued on the googly eyes. I wish the eyes had been self-adhesive, but we had a glue stick handy.
Verdict: This was a fun box! I think obviously a little girl would have enjoyed it a lot more. I do wish they had gender options, though! Hawaii has tons of things little boys would be into, like volcanoes and sharks and surfing. Also, I think the origami is a little challenging for a seven-year-old, but everything else in the box seems well-suited to a little one, so I'm not sure what age child this would be best for. Otherwise, I think this box was extremely well curated, and the 'treasures' were all super cute! In terms of value, I wish the price point were a little lower. I would be more inclined to think the value was there if the origami was more do-able for a little kid, but as usual, we enjoyed our time together anyway.
