Golden Tote Review – February 2015

Golden Tote Review – February 2015 Tote

Golden Tote is one of my favorite monthly packages – and I think a good deal of my wardrobe is now from Golden Tote items!

If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month you get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. (The surprise items are completely different from the pieces you pick from).

FYI – This is not a typical subscription, each month they release a new collection and you can decide whether or not you want to buy it. For returns it’s an all-or-nothing deal. You can return the entire tote for a refund, but you can’t return individual pieces.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

One more FYI - I get my boxes earlier than most each month because I always upgrade to second day air shipping (about $12 more than regular shipping). It's probably a good thing subscription boxes don't offer this option - I hate waiting for smart post and ground delivery, so I'd spend way to much on shipping upgrades!

Golden Tote Review – February 2015 Vest

Peach Love California Quilted Vest - Value $52

(60% Cotton, 35% Polyester, 5% Spandex; Filler 100% Polyester)

This is one of my two picks for the $149 tote and I LOVE it. I'm typically between a medium and large in Golden Tote items, and I went with a medium in this vest since I like my vests to be somewhat fitted. I'm glad I did - it's a perfect fit. Plus I didn't even realize the zipper was rose gold from the Golden Tote pictures, so that was a nice surprise!

Golden Tote Review – February 2015 Puella

Puella Pocket Dress - Value $78

When I first pulled this dress out of the tote, I kept thinking "Why did I pick the blue version instead of the black version?" My plan with this dress was to shrink it in the laundry and wear it with black leggings and a fitted jacket/vest or belt. (Turns out I did actually order the black version, but I'm guessing there was a mix up with the order if someone accidentally looked at the blue variant choice for the vest above).

Now that I have it though I'm not sure I want to return it for the black dress. It's loose like I was expecting (and I ordered a medium), I really like the color for summer, and it is such a easy and comfortable piece to wear.

(FYI the weave on this dress makes it the slightest bit see-through, so I recommend layering!)

Now for my surprise items:

Golden Tote Review – February 2015 Top

Le Sample Blouse - Value $40?

(100% Polyester, Contrast 100% Cotton)

I wasn't overly excited when I first saw this top, but it's a good basic to pair with skinny jeans. And I like the zipper detail in the back:

Golden Tote Review – February 2015 Dress

Skies Are Blue Dress - Value $70

(Shell 100% Cotton, Contrast 100% Rayon)

Skies Are Blue is one of my favorite brands to get from Golden Tote, so I was very happy when I saw the tag on this dress! The dress itself is pretty loose and will need belted (the unofficial slogan of Golden Tote 🙂 ), but that's fine with me, I love the colors and the embroidery.

Golden Tote Review – February 2015 White Top

Le Sample Top - Value $30?

(100% Rayon; Contrast Stripe 100% Cotton)

This top is somewhat sheer, so I'll have to layer it, but I think it's a nice update on a basic white shirt for summer. Here is a look at the back:

Golden Tote Review – February 2015 Back

Golden Tote Review – February 2015 Blouse

Grifflin Paris Blouse/Sweatshirt Hybrid - Value $40?

(100% Rayon)

This is an interesting top! It has the cut and elastic waistband of a sweatshirt, but the main material is a blouse fabric. I like the print and I think this top might be fun under a blazer to add a little touch of athletic styling to a workwear outfit.

Verdict: This was a good Golden Tote for me - I really like the fit of both of the items I picked out, and everything else in the tote will work for me too. (Though I may have to wait a few months to wear some of the pieces!)

What do you think of the February 2015 Golden Tote? Did you buy one this month? (FYI - if you are interested in either of the items I picked out in this tote, I just checked and they are still available in the $149 tote).

Advice needed please! I recently ordered 3 items [a navy cardigan and 2 red “wrapped in love” scarfs] from their online boutique, but they sent me the wrong scarfs – 2 “Eat your heart out”! I just emailed their info address. How does Golden Tote normally fix this type of error? I hope I don’t have to return “all” in order to receive my correct scarfs – the cardigan I plan to keep! Thanks!!

I ordered the small bag with the cozy knit cardigan. When I opened it, at first, I was a little apprehensive about both items BUT it happened to be a very cold couple of days for us and I wore the cardigan three days in a row! And the Skies Are Blue Blue and white striped shirt that was my surprise has grown on me quite a bit. Now I love it though I was so close to trading it and would never have even looked twice at it at a store!

Is the vest more fitted than it looks on the GT site? It looked boxy and short on the model but looks much better here. Same with the Puella swing dress, in that your picture gives a better idea about what the fabric really looks like. Your selected items are cute but I think the surprise items look to be of poor quality. Definitely does not look like your tote has a value of up to $600.

I bought 2 larges totes this month. Ill get mine on Monday, I requested the SAB dress and happy I am getting it.

My chosen were the trench coat in navy, blazer, mint jeans, wide legged pants, varsity sweater and the breezy cardigan.

This month was my first GT tote – I have been reading your reviews and took the plunge!! So glad I did! I love it so much (although I feel a bit like I’m cheating on SF!).

Did you reach out to customer service at all about the wrong item? I’ve tried Golden Tote in the past and the customer service has always been SO AWFUL. They sent me the wrong item 2 out of 2 times I tried (totally wrong item once, and totally wrong size another time). I’d email them and it would be weeks and multiple emails before I heard anything back. Generally never heard anything until I started to contest charges with my credit card company, actually. I’m hoping their customer service has gotten better since then, but won’t try it again until I hear about it.

I actually had a really good experience with their customer service just a couple of weeks ago. I ordered from them for the first time when the mystery bags came out, and when I got mine there was a little black spot on one of the shirts that I couldn’t get out with spot cleaning. I e-mailed customer service about getting a replacement and they got back to me right away. It turns out they didn’t have they exact same style anymore, but they sent me a different piece which I liked more! I went back and forth on e-mail with them several times and it never took more than a day to get a reply.

That’s very good to know! It sounds like its much improved since I last used it, about 8 months ago. I love the concept but never wanted to go through the hassle if they made a mistake again. Thank you!

Jaime

Looks like Golden Tote added a couple of new items today, one of them is the white/mint web tunic…

Maybe a little off topic, but when you do the intros about what the sub is about, can you include a size range for the clothing subs? I hate it when I get excited to check out a clothing sub, only to find out they don’t offer plus sizes or anything beyond a large.

Thank you so much for the suggestion – I will try to do that on all clothing reviews moving forward. (And good news – we should have gwynniebee reviews up soonsish!

That would be great, thank you!

Also, if any of these subs ask for your opinion, I’d be grateful if you could pass that along!

I normally buy XL Champion gear from Target (about a size 18), but when I tried the XL from Fabletics, they were horribly tight. I wish companies would consider adding a few sizes upward, like XL-2X, which I think would cover a lot more people.

Jessica

I almost never buy Golden Tote, but went ahead this month. The Puella dress look so soft and comfy and the colors would work for winter or summer. I also picked the orange gingham vest, which I am really exited about! It is SO hard to find cute pieces in orange to wear to football and basketball games #wahoowa

Your tote definitely makes me sad I decided not to order this month. I’m in between sizes right now and just didn’t want to chance it! But you tote is great!

Wow, I was holding off on the vest but now I really want it!
