Citrus Lane is a subscription box for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. (They customize your box to your child’s age and gender). The box I’m reviewing today is for a newborn. (Gender neutral). (Our very good friends are expecting their first child in May, so I’m trying to get them as many helpful newborn products as I can by then!)

Citrus Lane Review & Coupon Code – February 2015 Whale

Juice Beauty Green Apple Age Defy Moisturizer – .5 oz (Travel Size) Value $18

Green Tones Whale Shaker – Value $10

I’m pretty sure I’ve received Juice Beauty products from Citrus Lane, but I don’t mind getting more – it’s one of my favorite brands and I like this moisturizer.

I received the elephant version of this wooden rattle in a recent Citrus Lane mystery box I bought. It is made from chemical-free rubberwood with a non-toxic, with a clear-coat finish over natural wood and German-made, VOC-free water-based paint. I think they make the cutest gifts, and I’m fine having more than one to give!

Verdict: At first glance, this box seemed “light” to me – but the value is there. This box has a retail value of about $51, so I think my first impression was based more on the fact that all the items in my box this month were on the small size.

Everything is good-quality and good-for-gifting, so I’m happy with the contents. What did you get from Citrus Lane this month?

  1. Honestly, my big annoyance is with the lotion. I received a tube of the Green Apple lotion a couple of months ago and it was 2 oz, a nice travel size that I used up after about 3 weeks. Received another tube in my February box, but this one is only half an ounce! 1/4 the size of the first one I got. Really? Is it even worth the cost of making the tiny squeeze bottle for half an ounce of lotion? Am I paying for this, or is it considered to be a freebie? I looked on Amazon and an 8 oz bottle sells for $18, which means a half ounce bottle is worth $1.12. Wow, such value.

    • Not sure if this is the case for you, but I also received a larger Juice Beauty moisturizer in a previous box – it was a hand/body lotion, and the one I received this month was Green Apple Age Defy Moisturizer for the face, which retails for $45 for 2 oz. Hope that helps!

  2. This is our third month with Citrus Lane and I really enjoy their monthly boxes. I bought both my daughter 6 month subscriptions as an early Christmas present. My 3 year old daughter and 8 month old daughter both love receiving their boxes each month.

My 3 year olds box contained:
*Tegu 4 pc magnetic block set – $12 (estimated price based on Pocket Prism that includes 6 blocks and pouch for $21.95 on website)
Book – I Could Be, You Could Be – $5.50 on Amazon
Hape Lacing Skate – $12 on Amazon
YumEarth Naturals sour beans 2 sample packs – $1.50

So her box was worth about $31.

My 8 month olds box contained:
    Oogaa Silicone bowl – $9
*Green Tones Elephant Shaker – $10
    Manhattan Toy Wobble-A-Round – $10
Juice Beauty Green Apple Age Defy Moisturizer .5 oz Travel Size – $18

So her box was worth about $47.

Very happy with the value in both boxes, especially since I bought 6 month subscriptions and paid only $24 a box! Put a * next to each daughter’s favorite product.

  3. This was my first month with Citrus Lane. I bought with a coupon that got me a monthly box plus a myster bonus box worth $30. My daughter is 28 months.

    My box contained:
Skip Hop Reusable Snack Pack (I got to choose the design) – $12
Mudpuppy Puzzle Wheel – $8 (estimated price I can’t find this in their shop)
Book – I took the Moon for a Walk – $8 on Amazon
Yum earth sour beans 2 sample packs – $1.50

So my box was worth only about $30.

    The mystery bath box contained:
Rich Frog Tub Fishin’ – $10.75 on Amazon
    Green Toys Tugboat – $10.95
Baby time Snuggly Lotion – $9.50

Overall I’m pleased with everything that I got for $20. My daughter loved the tugboat at bathtime last night, and I’m going to let her open the regular box today as we have a ton of snow and will be stuck inside all day!

However, I think there wasn’t enough value in the monthly box for me to want to keep subscribing to that. I think it could have used one more toy or art craft to make it feel more substantial.

I think I will cancel and then watch here for more deals like the one I just did or the mystery boxes. If there was a good deal for a subscription that brought it well under $20 a box (like the $15 deal Jill mentioned below) I think it would be worth it for us. I did like the ability to customize the snack pack (although all the choices were cute!) and to add on to the box if there was something else that struck my fancy.

I couldn’t find a “cancel” button on their site though, so I guess I will have to email or call, which is always annoying.

    • The cancel link is in their FAQ. 🙂

We got the same box, and I wasn’t really amused, since the snack bags are on sale for $6 just about everywhere, and have been for two months. Super light on thevalue this month. However, they ARE awesome bags!

      • Thanks for the tip about canceling!

I thought I had seen the bags on sale for $6 previously, but I wasn’t sure. My daughter likes them just to put her little toys in, and she has made me read that moon book to her about 15 times since yesterday, so I’m okay with the box as it introduced me at least to the book, which I’m sure I wouldn’t have come across otherwise, but I do really wish the value had been higher (hence the cancellation).

My sister is about to have twins, so I may consider a gift sub for her, as the value for the baby age boxes seems to be better.

    • My 28 month old also got the same. The color wheel puzzle seemed easier than previous puzzles received.

  4. I get the box for three yr old girl and I am so dissapointed with the last three months! I noticed the value is good for the younger boxes but I don’t feel it’s there for the three yr old. I got a book, a hape roller skate toy to teach tying shoes and four little magnetic wooden blocks. I will be canceling when my sub is over next month. It just seems the value and customer service has taken a dive since took over. Too bad. I used to really love citrus lane.

    • We get the 4.5 year old gender-neutral box. I completely agree that the box seems like it is missing something the last few months.

      • I get the 3.5-year-old girl box, and I completely agree! Ever since it was taken over by, the value has gone down. It’s like there’s one less item in the box than there used to be. I was going to cancel, but they offered me three months for $15 each, so I decided to give them another shot. Unless the next two months drastically improve, I’m canceling this one!
