New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – Jan 2015 Tube

New Beauty Test Tube is a bi-monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Every other month they send you a tube full of deluxe and full size beauty samples and you also get a subscription to New Beauty Magazine. It’s a little pricier than other beauty subscriptions, but in general the value is usually incredible. (FYI – this is a different subscription from the QVC New Beauty Test Tube which ships every quarter).

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – Jan 2015 Info

Each New Beauty Test Tube comes with a booklet thoroughly detailing each product included.

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – Jan 2015 Dry Ice

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk – 50 ml (Travel Size) Value $9

Color Club Dry Ice Rapid Nail Lacquer Dryer – FULL SIZE! Value $11

I have received Klorane Dry Shampoo a lot in subscription boxes over the years, so while I’m no longer excited to see it in a box, it is a great product and will be used!

These Dry Ice drops from Color Club are new to me though! I love Color Club’s nail polish formula, so I’m guessing I will be equally impressed with their quick-dry drops. (They get great reviews too).

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – Jan 2015 Chi

Balanced Guru No Frizz Oil Hair Oil – 15 ml (Travel Size) Value $13

CHI Argan Oil plus Moringa Oil – FULL SIZE! Value $22

I thought it was a little weird to get two hair oils in one box. That aside, I like both of these products. The Balanced Guru No Frizz Hair Oil I’ve sampled and liked before thanks to other boxes, and the CHI Argan Oil is a new discovery for me. I like that it is paraben free, and the formula is lightweight enough that it didn’t even weigh down my hair when I tried it on dry hair.

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – Jan 2015 Dermacologica

dermalogica daily microfoliant – .45 oz Value $8.65

eraclea ever-moist lip balm – FULL SIZE! Value $16

This dermalogica microfoliant is a powder you combine with water to form a fine exfoliating paste. I just ran out of my Tatcha rice enzyme powder, so this should hold me over in the meantime until I buy more!

This lip balm is one of my favorite new discoveries in the box – it is a super shiny/non-sticky moisturizing formula, and it has a slightly sweet and fruity flavor.

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – Jan 2015 M

Moroccan Oil Body Butter – 1.7 oz Value $13.80

Camille Beckman Midnight Monarch Glycerine Hand Therapy – 1.35 oz Value $2.50

These two items are not listed in the info booklet, so I’m guessing there will be variation for subscribers. These are repeats for me. I received the Moroccan Oil Body Butter in the January 2014 Test Tube, and the Midnight Monarch hand cream in the November 2013 Test Tube.

Verdict: My box has a value of about $96. I’m pretty happy with this box with the exception of the two repeat items from past boxes. In general though they introduced new brands, and… no Mally eyeliner or lip gloss! (I actually like both of those products, but you can only use so many in a lifetime).

What do you think of the January 2015 New Beauty Test Tube?

  1. I didn’t receive the magazine either in my box. At $10/issue on the newstands, including it in the box makes this subscription a decent deal.

Also found that the coupon code from this site for a $9 savings didn’t automatically apply and the company has ignored my call/email on the subject so people considering the coupon as an incentive should be really careful to see if the savings is reflected in the total.

Final note is that I didn’t receive any extras, e.g., body butter or hand cream. Mine arrived in late January so perhaps they were out of extra goodies.

    • I called NB and the magazine is now supposed to be mailed 4x year.

  2. Read every one of the reviews {thank you so much for sharing}, seems like they have gone a different direction…going to hold off w/ this one for a while. I’d rather spend my $ on a better subscription.

  3. I got this box in the middle of December. I was wondering why there wasn’t a post on it yet. That’s odd!

    • I’m not sure what date I got this box on, but I am still a little behind on reviews so that might explain it! 🙂

  4. I just received mine and noticed there was no magazine in my box. Did yours include the magazine?

    • The qvc one always has a magazine in the box the other tube does not I looked on qvc they don’t have any yet for the jan anybody know if qvc won’t no more only the tube will be out?

      • QVC is no longer doing the test tube. They cancelled my subscription and sent me an email. So sad.

        • QVC is now doing beauty boxes with POPSUGAR.

    • I have never received the magazine subscription I called twice and was assured I would get it after 6 months I canceled my test tube subscription.

  5. I had tried this sub before but it was just too much hair stuff. One can only use just so much hair stuff, particularly if hair oil doesn’t really suit one’s hair. I got too much oil, frizz control and curl control in this sub. I have fine straight hair and none of that is for me but it’s mostly what is given for hair products. That said, I am always up for Klorane dry shampoo. But it’s cheaper for me to just buy it!

  6. Do they still have the qvc tube always got better items in that one

  7. I just got the Klorane dry shampoo in my Birchbox, I love it, but I have a lot of it. Not excited about getting it anymore either. I’m always too afraid to try the New Beauty Test Tube. It does seem to have a lot of repeats, or samples and things I already have.
