GlossyBox Subscription Box Review – January 2015

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Box

GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually deluxe-size or full size, and the value is usually really good too. The only issue with this box seems to be the late shipping – I would recommend just keeping that in mind and setting your expectations accordingly if you sign up for this box.

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Info

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included.

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Vichy

VICHY Purete Thermale 3-In-1 One Step Cleanser - 1 oz Value $2.90

Skin&Co Roma Truffle Therapy Serum - 5 ml Value $12.50

This VICHY cleanser is supposed to be a milk cleanser, toner and makeup remover in one. It's also paraben free, and I think the scent is pretty subtle and clean.

This Skin&Co serum absorbs instantly on my skin, and I like the somewhat sweet scent. It's going to have to be a miracle serum for me to justify buying a full size version though ($75 for one ounce).

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Brush

Teeez Trend Cosmetics Beautiful Flat Stiff Brush - Value $23.50

I can never get enough makeup brushes in subscription boxes, so this is a great box addition for me. Plus the pattern on the handle is fun.

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Eyeliner

Kueshi Revitalizing Face Toner - FULL SIZE! Value $13.50

Lollipops Eye Pencil in Goodbye Moon - FULL SIZE! Value $17.70

Toners don't seem to show up in subscription boxes that often, so getting a full-size toner in this box is great - it should last me a while.

I feel like GlossyBox probably sends out a few too many black eyeliners every year, but this brand is new to me, and I love the packaging design, so at least there's that! As far as the actual eyeliner goes, it seems to be pretty smudge proof.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $70. I think it's a really good box, and I like that they focused on some skincare items for the new year. In general this is a very useable box to me. What do you think of the January 2015 GlossyBox?

This is my first Glossbox, and I have to say it’s a good one! I’m an Ipsy fan as well, but THIS box really rocks! I won’t use the $40 gift card included for Hello Fresh, but maybe someone else can use it.
I also got a Beauty For Real luminizer and tint, but sadly, I don’t use those either. If there’s a place to trade the unwanted items or sell them, let me know.

I’m dissappointed , I received the sicilian light serum instead of the truffle. I thought glossy box was the same for everyone, does anyone know if that is true or not?

No, they are all different which is why you do the ‘beauty profile’ when you sign up

They sent two kind of serum in January.

Liz- here’s another coupon for Glossybox. It worked today:

BEAUTYSTAT615 for 15% off a one month subscription. It only applies to the first month.

I just got my box today, I’m thrilled, it’s not February yet!! I love the whole box, I got a Tarte concealer brush instead and I have to say it’s beautiful. Lol I don’t know why but the bristles are so pretty. I love getting a toner in a box, cuz you never get any. I also got my gift set at the same time as my Glossybox! Last time they forgot to include the BB cream and had to wait a month to get it. I’m thrilled, I love everything in the box and the GWP box. The mojito lipgloss is my newest obsession.

My January box was ruined by the toner which was open , not a loose cap but opened, already sent a few nasty grams….

I got two January boxes, about a week apart and I don’t know why. The first box was perfect and second box was ruined by the toner.

I actually ended up with THREE January boxes! All items in tact in all three. I contacted customer service about both of the extra boxes and they told me to keep them. I’m super excited because I love everything in this box!

I got my January box earlier this week. The ENTIRE toner had spilled in my box. The top of it was completely open. As I’m sure we all know, Glossyboxes are basically bulletproof(seeing that the gorgeous packaging stays intact) so my only thought is that the toner was put in the box completely open. Every single product was completely soaked. The eyeliner and brush were both ruined. The eyeliner was soaked through and crumbled the second I tried to lightly swatch it. The brush was separating from the handle and the bristles seem to have frayed due to the soaking in toner. The serum bottle was slightly punctured but I figured it was fine since it was a squeeze bottle. I opened it and almost all of the product exploded out on to my hand and had a very weird sour smell. The face wash is the only product I will actually be able to use. I contacted Glossybox and they refused to replace the products and just issued me 1000 Glossydots. I’m happy to receive a free box worth of dots but I was SO excited about this month’s box!!!! UGH!!! I cashed out my Glossydots and cancelled my subscription. Onto Popsugar I go! Too bad Glossybox as horrible customer service because I enjoyed most of the boxes and products.

Not thrilled about the Vichy cleanser as it’s not oil free. My bottle of toner had floating white stuff in it—I am not typically bothered by that sort of thing so I am using it anyway but it is odd, nonetheless. Anyone else have that issue with their bottle?

I liked this box. I’ve been into skincare products lately. Between beauty boxes and freebies from places like Sephora, though, I keep getting black eyeliner which I never use. Some brown would be nice. Fortunately, I noticed a coworker always wears black eyeliner so I’m passing them on to her.

This box looks pretty good. I can’t get excited about anything until I open it though. Last month I didn’t get the one item I really wanted and the blue polish they subbed me is awful and not advertised as an option.
We’ll see.

I hope they let us know asap what will be included in the classic box!

I thought the curation on this one was great. Every item could be used in conjunction with another. Cleanse with the Vichy, add toner, use serum, put on eyeliner and smudge it with the brush. Glossybox is my favorite for this reason alone; not only are the samples you receive high quality, and usually include at least one if not two full size, they are also given careful thought to how they relate to one another. This to me is better than just a theme. And I haven’t had any issues with late shipping. I usually get my box the first or second week of the month.

I got the “6 free gifts” from the coupon code as my January box. I already had three of the exact same items (the highlighter, the lip balm, and the eyeshadow pencil) from previous boxes this year, so that was pretty disappointing. I think this will be my last Glossybox.

anna

I think it was your bonus box (GWP) and you will get actual January box as well. But it can come late, even the first week of February.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer V

I don’t think so, I didn’t order the GWP and this isn’t my first box…I’ve been a subscriber since March or April. I think they just sent me the wrong box. 🙁

Eliza

I think this box is really great. I love the skin care items. I like to spritz on toner so I screwed a spray nozzle into the bottle. The I wish the serum had been larger because I like it so much. I have been wanting to try the Vichy cleanser so that was a nice surprise. The brush is nice I do not have one that size and it’s really fun. Eyeliner is another thing that I really don’t need but this is a nice one, it smudges really well and stays put. I also got a $40 off Hello Fresh that I doubt I will use but it was a nice extra. Love my GlossyBoxes!

This looks promising. I still haven’t rec’d my Dec box yet though.

Did everyone receive a $40 hello fresh gift card with their box?

kitkat98

I was wondering if anyone has tried this Hello Fresh coupon?? Ive gotten a couple in my boxes but never tried..thx!

I did! I was so surprised…

Love the box! But, more than half of my toner had leaked, through the box, through the brush box, all over! I emailed them so fingers crossed for a replacement toner. It smelled nice when I was washing it off of everything else! 🙂

Glossybox sent this skin and co truffle therapy serum February 2014 and it made me break out 🙁 also i wish they wouldnt repeat items, trying new products is why i like subs in the first place

Disappointed to get this serum again too. 🙁 I used it twice and ended up getting 4 pimples from it, so I’m definitely NOT happy to have recieved it again. Not too enthused about the rest of the box either.

I still haven’t even got my December box yet 🙁

My January Box is set to come next week but I have relate what happened when I contacted Customer Service. This past week my sub had automatically renewed for 6 months (I don’t know about anyone else but I’m NOT a fan of auto-renewals– I always prefer an email notification first). A couple of days later I received the MSA email where it gave the coupon code for the 6 piece gift with the 6 or 12 month renewal. I contacted them by FB PM asking if they would honor the offer even though my renewal had already shipped. CS got back to me the next day and explained that they couldn’t send me that offer because mine had already shipped, but they sent a list of 27 items and told me to pick 6 from there and they would send me those– I was kind of impressed and wanted to pass that along because I know they get a lot of flack about their shipping schedule…

Yay ! No nail polish , I am so glad. I do not want to offend nail polish lovers, but all I need for the year is 2, maybe 3 nail polishes. That’s it ! Glossybox has been sending out so many of them in each box.

Reply ButtonReply

Erin D

Agreed!! I was happy not to see a nail polish in this box. I thought it was great overall.

nichole

I was really hoping my box would have come today 🙁 maybe Monday!

I think it’s a great box. They introduced several new brands, a few imports, and an overall nice variety of products. I think the folks who tend to be disappointed with glossy are those who expect it to be makeup focused, which it really never has been in the years I’ve been subbed. They do include a makeup item or two some months but overall I’ve gotten more non-makeup things from glossy. For ladies looking to receive (mostly) cosmetics I could see it being a bit of a disappointment.

Emily

Liz, can you tell us if there’s alcohol in the toner? I haven’t had any luck finding an ingredient list online.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Here’s the complete ingredient list directly from the bottle:

Aqua, Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice, glycerin, chamomilla, recutita flower extract, calendula officinalis flower extract, hydroxyethylcellulose, dmdm hydantoin, peg-40 hydrogenated castor oil, ethoxydiglycol, propyleneglycol, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, parfum, citric acid, sodium hydroxide, geraniol, linalool, d-limonene, c145100

Hope that helps! Sorry if there are any typos – the type is pretty small on the bottle!

Emily

Eep, didn’t mean to make so much work for you! But thanks a million for posting the list! That is incredibly helpful.

Anna

Unfortunately there is no such thing as cruelty free natural hair. I will only purchase synthetic bristles for my brushes because of this.
