Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Box

Birchbox Man is a monthly grooming and lifestyle subscription box for men. Their lifestyle items tend to be formal (think ties, cufflinks, etc), so keep that in mind when subscribing!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Info

Each box comes with a card that details each item included in your box for that month.

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Gloves

Men in Cities Wool Blend Touch Screen Gloves – Value $30

I like that the Men In Cities white logos include magnets to keep these gloves together when you aren’t using them!

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Tosi

Tosi Mini Almond Super Bites – Value $2

I liked this snack a lot – it doesn’t have a lot of sugar added, but still tastes really good!

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Soap

The Men’s Soap Shop Exfoliating Bergamot Soap – 1.2 oz Value $3.75

This is an item I would gladly keep for myself if my husband didn’t want it. It has a fresh citrus scent which I love, and I like the soap tin pacakaging too!

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Clean

CLEAN For Men Sample – 1 ml Value $1.25

Do The Right Thing First Thing First Scrub – 15 ml Value $2.50

I normally complain about perfume/cologne samples in boxes, but I really like this men’s cologne sample – it’s very fresh and light.

FYI – This face scrub is recommended as a once or twice a week treatment – not a daily face wash. I’m not crazy about the fragrance of the face scrub, but it gets good reviews on Birchbox.

Verdict: This box has a value of nearly $40. Most of the value in the box is from the gloves, so it is a good thing that they are a hit! Actually pretty much every item in this box is, so it’s a good way to start off the 2015 Birchbox Man year.

What did you get in your January Birchbox Man box?

  1. Just received my second box in a three month trial subscription. Totally unimpressed. The first box had an ugly pocket square. This box has two pair of Happy Socks. Well, I don’t know any man that would be happy with these socks. Honestly, picture the sole as part aqua bordered by royal blue and off white stripes on the toes and above the flat of the foot. The heel is bright red. Above the royal blue and off white stripes is a navy blue background with red polka dots. Really? I don’t even know a woman who would wear this if I could even find a woman who could fit into these large socks.

One more box and I do believe I will be done. Both my sons and my husband would have loved these gloves. What does it take to get something normal?

  2. Really unimpressed/annoyed with the Birchbox Man January intro box, which included an orange pocket square, tea tree/chamomile deodorant, a shampoo for thinning hair (?!), sculpting wax, and a tube of that tired old Gilchrist & Soames body wash that Birchbox has been pawning off in the women’s box as well as in the mystery sample packs. 1) Gloves or a base layer shirt would have been a better value, and 2) certainly Birchbox could have come up with more exciting introductory items than deodorant and treatment shampoo! (I’ve been with Birchbox since the beginning of their sub box history, so I know that every box cannot be awesome, but this BBox man experience was disappointing as my husband’s first subscription box.)

    • UPDATE: my husband really liked the treatment shampoo (ha ha on me for dismissing it so readily!) but said the Gilchrist & Soames body wash was terrible. The rest of the items will be given away. Called Birchbox directly to cancel the subscription, because the online cx option does not appear to differentiate between cancelling just Birchbox Man or cancelling one’s entire Birchbox subscribership.

  3. My husband’s box was quite different. He got the scrub and the fragrance, but his other three items were very different. I’m amazed at the range / variety of things per month.

  4. Got the intro box this month…not too pleased with a cowboy-like pocket square. Would have loved the gloves! Any tips about getting better items?

  5. I got SUCH a different box but I think it’s because it was my first one and I couldn’t choose a lifestyle item. We got a shoe cleaner instead and my boyfriend was very meh about it. I think he would have much rather received the gloves. Hopefully this time we can pick the lifestyle item and get something better.

  6. Hubby loved the Cory Vines base layer shirt he got this time. He’s worn it several times already and the quality isn’t impacted by the washer.

  7. Great review. I think the lifestyle items really make this box a win. I just signed up to try the men’s box to see in the man will take to it or not.
