Ecoque Chip Strip - Value $20

This chip strip is made of cast iron and it is a heavy duty container. You can put it in your grill and add different types of wood chips for various smoke flavors.

Andrew Zimmern Quarterly Subscription Box Review #ZIM04 Oil

Andrew Zimmern Matches

The Smoked Olive Sonoma Smoked Olive Oil - Value $24

This Smoked Olive Oil packs a lot of smoke flavor, and he recommends using it with "salad dressings, roasted vegetables, grilled shrimp.. really anything that you'd normally add a drizzle of olive oil."

Andrew Zimmern Quarterly Subscription Box Review #ZIM04 Spices

Old Salt Merchants Smoked Salt - Value $10

The Smoked Olive Smoked Brown Sugar - Value $6?

Both of these items add a more subtle smoke flavor, and I'm excited to use both of them! Andrew recommends the smoked sugar with goat butter, salt on top of sweet potatoes.

Verdict: This box has a value of at least $60 (not sure on match book value). I think the value is good for a food box. (Most barely break even with the cost), and it is clear that a lot of thought went into the theme of this box. I'm excited to try everything, and I appreciate that Andrew was seeking out the very best smoke flavors in lots of different products - no artificial added smoke flavoring in this box!

My husband is Mr. Smoker so although I didn’t care for his last box I took a chance on this. We both are happy, happy enough he told me not to cancel. I just realized I haven’t tried the smoked olive oil yet. or the sugar. But: We made deviled eggs and sprinkled a TINY bit of the smoked salt and they were wonderful. I just added a tiny bit to meatloaf i’m making. My husband smoked meatloaf once and it was outrageous, that’s what gave me the idea…….we’ll see.

Wow, smoked meatloaf! You weren’t kidding about your husband being Mr. Smoker lol… Now I’ve got to try that

Lol. There is a lot of “recipes” for smoked meat loaf on the internet. I think you pretty much just make it how you want and throw it on the smoker for maybe 2-3 hours. One of his other things his buddies go nuts over is, we saw this on tv at some restaurant, he makes a rub and puts it all over a whole piece of bologna and smokes it. I don’t even like bologna and it is really good.

I hope this one shows up on the Best of Quarterly. My husband would love it. He thinks he’s a barbecue master!

It is in Best of Quarterly! I’m debating into whether to buy it or not…

It has a great theme although I am not big on the smoked taste.

I bought a bottle of that smoked olive oil when on a trip to Napa Valley. It is SO GOOD, we just eat it with french bread and a little salt. The smoked brown sugar sounds amazing, I might have to buy some on its own!

That is so good to know. I’ve been afraid to try it, I love regular olive oil with just salt and bread.

Oh my, this is not for me. If there is one thing I can’t stand, it’s adding smoke flavors to anything. I can’t even eat chipotle peppers. There is something about that umami taste that I really don’t like at all. (Probably one reason I stopped eating meat and can’t stomach mushrooms.)

Ah well, I’ve sworn off all food boxes anyway. Hope everyone who does get this box enjoys it!
