BUYER BEWARE when subscribing to UrthBox. The reviews are piling up on Yelp, mostly due to consumers being illegally charged for auto renew without their knowledge or consent. (They have to disclose the terms for automatic renewal on their checkout page, and they don’t. They give you a link to their fine print, but this is a violation of the law in the state in which they do business.)

I decided to take advantage of the Hatchery offer and will use items to put in husband’s and son’s Easter baskets. (They both love to cook!) Would like to let everyone know that when I went to redeem my code I had a choice of the subscription not renewing (deciding later whether or not to renew) OR having it automatically renew and receiving 20% off all future deliveries. This deal is exclusive to Living Social customers. I previously hesitated on this box because of the low value. However, I by using my discover card I lowered the price significantly: $60 – 20% Living Social – %10 Discover – 5% Discover. I calculate that this actually will cost me $41.04 for the three months.

I meant to note that I did not have to enter a credit card.

I have to say I loved the three months I had Urthbox and had absolutely no problem cancelling it. I sent them an email cancelling and got an email back the next day confirming the cancellation. I did buy with a voucher. If I had to put in a cc at the time, I’m sure I probably used a one time use one that would not allow for continued subscription but I really cannot recall the details of the transaction. Did not get additional billing in any case. I’m going to head over to yelp and check out the issues!

Wow, reading Yelp and some of the comments here makes me realize I am so glad I always use a one-time credit card number on all box subscriptions.

Thanks, Liz! I loved that Bulu didn’t require credit card info since the voucher paid for it, that wins points with me for sure; definitely disliked that Urthbox did require a credit card – BOO! Mildly dreading the CS drama when I go to cancel in a couple of weeks based on the reviews below – that is one of the reasons I adore Love With Food – their CS is AWESOME!!! We couldn’t decide between Urthbox and LWF, but sounds like we may have made the right choice based on CS alone. I am still looking forward to testing a box from Urthbox though 🙂

I didn’t have a problem canceling Urthbox after a LS trial (I always cancel the day I get my last box so they don’t have a chance to charge me). However, I was very underwhelmed with each box and find Love With Food much superior in product and curation.

I liked Urthbox, but canceling after the auto renewal after purchasing a 6 month sub code was huge pain. Had to get AMEX involved and dispute charges. Would not resub.

I thought the Bulu Box deal was good, so I’ve purchased from Living Social. When I went to Bulu Box’s website with the code, its website 1. only gave me an option to get Original box and 2. still asked me to put a credit card number. Huh? I’ve already paid for 3 months at Living Social!!! So I canceled it.

I had to quit Urthbox, which makes me sad. They sign you up for auto billing even if you sign up with a code. I didn’t know that so I called THE DAY that they charged me so I could cancel and they charged me a fee for canceling and refused to refund the entire 3 months of boxes that they pulled from my account. Decent product but really, really, really crappy service. I would try any other food sub. Urthbox CS really stinks. And I try my hardest to avoid dealing with CS because I don’t like aggressive sales (like Honest Co) people or being upsold (Julep). UB just nickle and dimes you in a really sneaky dishonest way. No thanks. I might try Love With Food since they donate meals to children in need with their revenue too and offer the same service.

If you don’t mind sugar, urthbox is good. I just quit eating sugar. In 6 months of urthbox, only about 1 product/ month was sugar free. I got the vegan box. Otherwise, pretty good box.
I am looking at the bulubox deal. Is $8 for 3 months worth it?

I think I got Bulu for $5/month with a 50% off code last year, I bet they’ll run a similar one soon. Their boxes vary a lot from month to momth and are very heavy on supplements. I would look at Liz’s reviews to get a good idea.

I love Urthbox. The food products are good intros to new, healthy items I wouldn’t try myself. We root in the box when we are on the run, if there is anything left after the first few days. Recommend it!

Urth box has terrible reviews on Yelp… averaging 1/5 stars. I would tread cautiously.
