Bestowed Subscription Box Review & Coupon – December 2014 Chips

Nature's Bakery Fig Bar - Value $1

Good Health Veggie Straws in Sea Salt - Value $1

Beanfields Bran & Rice Chips in Salt n' Pepper - Value $1

My husband loves these Nature's Bakery Fig Bars, and I've tried these veggie straws and bean & rice chips before, so all these snacks were enjoyed.

Bestowed Subscription Box Review & Coupon – December 2014 Candy

Gold Kili Natural Ginger Lemon Tea Bags - Value $1

NuttZo 2go Chocolate Nut Butter - Value $1

Snap Infusion SuperCandy Jelly Beans - Value $2

This ginger tea is just natural lemon and ginger flavor - it smells wonderful, I can't wait to try it.

The NuttZo 2go Chocolate Nut Butter was good - not as good as Justin's Chocolate Almond Butter - but it also only has 1 gram of sugar, so that's probably why it doesn't compare exactly. It's kind of perfect though if you want a chocolate fix but want to avoid added sugar.

I ate the jelly beans immediately, and they were pretty good, but for me personally they aren't the type of item I want in a health food box.

Bestowed Subscription Box Review & Coupon – December 2014 Protein

Crio Bru Brewed Cocoa - Value $6

TwinLab Clean Series Veggie Protein (2 packs) Value $3

I can't wait to try this brewed cocoa in our french press. I opened the bag and it smells amazing. It's caffeine free too, and gets great reviews on Amazon.

I haven't tried these shake mixes yet (I don't make shakes that often, so I currently have a backlog of subscription shake mixes to try!)

Verdict: This box has a value of about $16. I think Bestowed is a good deal if you can get it when it's on sale at Gilt City or Groupon, but not at full price. That being said, I discovered a few new products I'm excited about, so the box has value for me in that capacity.

What do you think of the December Bestowed Box?

It’s been a while since I’ve had the extra money for subscription boxes. I’m starting a better job in 3 days though! 🙂 So anyways, I’m doing some research now, because there are so many options now!

I was just wondering…what is the average price for this Bestowed box (or even other boxes) when you buy it through a site like Groupon or Gilt City?

I’m still thinking about buying a 3 month subscription for Bestowed now, because I can get that for $36, so $12/box seems fairly reasonable…

Any information is greatly appreciated!

Liz, thank you for all of your reviews! Because of you, I have found some sub boxes that are right for me and I was even able to do some of my holiday shopping. But my wallet is a little upset, lol.

I bought the 6 months sub on LivingSocial and this is my 3rd box and I agree the box is ok with this kind of deals and I will cancel after my 6th boxes, unless I get another deal to extend. I ship this box to my office and I try to snack a little healthier. I loved the ginger lemon tea with some honey and cannot wait to try the cocoa!

Do you think the sub boxes that are on the site like Groupon are little on the shaky side? Low box values and bad customer service… It seems that they are desperate for business. I am relatively new to the sub box world, so just curious…

I can’t speak for Liz, but I’ve had at least a few good experiences with sub boxes on flash sale sites. I got a good deal on a Fab Fit Fun box that way, and I got Urthbox that way (I liked Urthbox but am cutting back on food subs). I think even Birchbox does sales like that sometimes and their CS is pretty reliable. I got a November PopSugar MustHave box from somewhere (Rue La La maybe) and that came through just fine.

The nice thing about sites like Living Social and Groupon and Rue La La is, if the terms of your purchase aren’t fulfilled by the subscription box company, you have an extra layer of protection — you can complain to the flash sale site as well as to the subscription box company. I try to pay with PayPal through these sites to get that third level of protection, as well.

Plus, sometimes (especially with RLL) you get random credits, or credits for using their app, etc. So I got Escape Monthly for $4. It wasn’t a great box but it was definitely worth $4, and I didn’t have too much trouble canceling afterwards.

Awwww, thank you for your comment! So nice of you!
I think we have a similar purchasing style 😛 My bad experiences were with Taste Guru and Gugaroo, both purchased via flash sale site. Googaro recently went out of business (if you are curious, you can see my comment on the most recent Googaro review on this website). Taste Guru looks like they changed everything around and appears new, but I had to ask when my box will get shipped every month and they will ship same items again in the next box…

And you are right about extra protection from flash sale sites. I had unused Gugaroo voucher and didn’t want it anymore after my initial bad experience, so I contacted RLL the reason why and they gave me the store credit which I used toward Bespoke to get my husband’s presents. So, it worked out at the end.

With flash sale, I tried Urthbox, Popsugar, Escape Monthly, etc. pretty much all cancelled after the voucher is used. I live in NYC apartment, so I don’t really have a space to keep items I don’t use, so snack subs are good for me as I just ship them to the office vs. carrying them on subway from home or paying a lot more from corner store. And they are small portion, so I don’t overeat (at least try not to)…

On the other hand, I had a great customer service experience with Birchbox and Citrus Lane (my comment on the latest review here). I subscribed for Birchbox Men and my first box didn’t arrive as they are apparently sold out. They sent me an email saying sorry and gave me $10 credit on my account AND extended another month of subscription for free. That all happened BEFORE I even contacted them.

I did a lot of single purchases during holiday season, so I need to scale back next year… May I ask you which subs you are keeping? For me, I have Citrus Lane for my son, Birchbox Men for my husband (but will probably cancel after the free month), Bespoke for my husband (2 more boxes with RLL), Bestowed, Urthbox, and Hamptons Lane for me and maybe occasional one-time purchase. I love the idea of skip or keep for Bespoke and Hamptons Lane. I cannot decide if I want to get Frenchbox…

The brewed cocoa is awesome — I bought a Mr. Coffee machine (hey, it was only $15) just to try it. It’s really bitter, though. But some skim milk (or in your case, something like almond or rice milk) and Equal made it taste just like hot cocoa, only without all the sugar. I ordered the mint kind from Amazon; should be here later this week.

This is my next-to-last Bestowed box, though. Cutting down on subs for the new year, and food subs in general because I always eat everything like the first day. (I got it for about $11 so the value was fine for me, but you’re right — this one usually comes in under the full purchase price.)

I live on those fig bars since finding them in a sub box last year. I have them on Sub & Save with Amazon.
