Ok so my box just arrived. I told myself I’d Wait to judge until I had my box in hand ( I purchased it as bday gift for myself) ok so my candle arrived completely broken, shards of glass everywhere. I can’t believe how they packaged this item. No bubble wrap, just tissue paper and in its box. Then the jewelry box has a few cracks here and there, and to top it off my clutch, the most expensive item in the box has scratches and marks all over it. … I wrote PS about the condition of my items. We’ll see what they say…. If they replace the tarnished items I’ll be thrilled But so far I’m not pleased… Happy bday to me I bought myself a pile of broken scrap! 🙁

I got my PS/NM box today… and I’m pretty underwhelmed. I held such high hopes that I would love this box once I got it in my hands, but I’m sadly disappointed.

First out of the box was the Clare V clutch. While it’s a pretty clutch and the leather is nice, I was so upset that the whole front of the clutch (on the fold over flap) is all scratched up and has a black mark on it. Seriously? I know leather has imperfections, but this is way more than that. I wouldn’t carry it with the marks on it. I felt like it’s not much more than a cosmetic pouch at that point.

Next out was the frame. I figured a $100 frame surely would be a good sized frame (minimum 8 x 10). Nope, it’s a very small, low profile 5 x 7 frame. I can’t imagine how they could possibly think anyone would pay $100 for it. It’s nice, but the price is ridiculous.

The next item out was the Missoni Candle. I opened it up and mine was shattered inside it’s box. I heard it tinkering around as I was opening it, but I just thought that was the lid that is on it. Nope, it was glass. I opened the tissue and covered myself and my bare feet with shards of glass EVERYWHERE! I am especially upset by this that I now have several painful tiny shards of glass stuck in my bare feet. Normally PS wraps everything in bubble wrap then the black tissue. There was no bubble wrap or packaging material to protect the fragile items at all. To add insult to my literal injuries, I don’t like the candle scent either. I had to just laugh at that point. 🙂

The rest was fine. But after two of the highest priced items inside were trashed, my disappointment in the whole thing just ran over.

Just an update – I emailed Popsugar about my damaged Clare V clutch and the Missoni candle. I got a response (in less than 24 hours) and they are sending me replacements of both items. As long as I get the replacements, Popsugar has redeemed themselves with me.

I’ve been a PS subscriber for over a year and a half. In the last few months, I’ve seen a decline in the products/service. In the back of my mind, I’ve been worrying that maybe the company is in trouble?? I sure hope not, because Popsugar is my very favorite box. When I think about canceling boxes, Popsugar is always on my must keep list. Prior to the last few months, I’ve always had outstanding service from Popsugar. And, once again, they have been great (with replacing my damaged items). So, I think there’s lots of hope for them yet! 🙂

Also, the clutch, candle and hexagon box are *gorgeous.* The box is the medium one. The candle has a very nice earthy/woodsy/spicy scent. Not my usual thing but I like it. And the clutch — just pure buttery leather heaven.

I just want to say to everyone whose picking on the people who aren’t happy with the box… I don’t think its because they feel entitled or want the curators to read their minds, or just don’t enjoy the surprise. It has nothing to do with any of that, I believe most of us understand the risk involved when buying mystery boxes. But The reason for the wide dislike of this box is that it’s not really a limited edition box since the past 5 months we have received f the exact same items just a slightly cheaper version . Our October box, had a candle, and picture frame and now we have a more expensive candle and picture frame yet again. Where’s the varriety PS? I like so many purchased this box based on last years NM review. And I was expecting a treat from the regular box. A LE box is suppose to be a luxurious experience, completely different from the regular monthly box. Atleast that’s how I feel. Now again for Nov box we are getting yet another clutch diff brand than the LE box. But everybox seems To have the exact same items. There’s no real surprise element. Yes I agree one can not have too many purses or scarves. But some type of variety is appreciated, a different color or pattern…the smallest change makes the biggest difference in the overall experience and feel. I took a gamble on this box I knew the risk but I was expecting a different box not a upscale box of the months I’d already received. Hopefully PS takes all this constructive critisim to heart. It’s not that we didn’t recieve the promised value, but we don’t feel we received the curation we’ve come to love and expect from Popsugar. That’s all. Wow, a lot of entitlement on this thread. It always amazes me when people love subscription boxes but hate not getting exactly what they want in every box. My policy (which has served me well) is: never spend more on a box than I would be willing to spend on a nice dinner out, a trip to an amusement park, or a similar transitory experience. I am paying for the experience, the anticipation, the surprise, and perhaps, a few nice products to use or pass along to friends. I’m not paying the curators to read my mind or pander to my personal dietary restrictions or memorize my likes and dislikes. If I want products that are hand selected for me, I will hand select them for myself. If I want a surprise, I’ll order a sub box that’s within my budget, and enjoy the ride.

I just got the box today I live in San Francisco and it ships from Gilroy CA, so I guess I’m one of the first people getting it, I’m not really impressed by it, it seems that everything is something that I just got in the past couple of months just more expensive. I think that the problem with the box is the clutch, since is the high value item and even though it is very pretty and good quality I don’t have any use for it since it is not practical at all; if instead they included a cross body bag that I can use often of the same price I’d be really happy and thinking everything else is a plus… but since that is not the case I feel like I’m trying to make sense out of spending 250 in a candle, frame, pouch and everyday things that I would probably get at home goods. I’m going to try to sell the clutch and cream etc. at 50% discount to get back some of my money… sigh…

Anyway, I was about to push “purchase” on this box and was looking for a code or spoilers here and saw the whole box. THANK GOD I didn’t buy! I was thinking it would be like the throw and plates etc from last year – this is a box that is worth the money, but filled with things I really don’t want. The clutch is nice but I have like 10 and never use them. The Lancer item would be the one thing I wanted and that alone isn’t 250. PHEW dodged a bullet.

I went to NM to check this box out (I already purchased it through PSMH). All of the items are actually beautiful. The clutch feels like butter. It is probably the only item that isn’t super useful for me…I already have a very similar one. I saw this brand of clutch on eBay for $200. I plan to sell it and I will essentially have only paid $50 for the other items. Well worth it in my opinion.

It pains me to say but I’m so disappointed in the spoilers. I hope that I like it in person or that I can gift most of the items. $250 is a lot of money for disappointment. I’m going to really take a hard look at my subscriptions, PS may be getting the axe soon.

OK, I know people are upset about the POPSugar NM Box but I totally love it! The one from last year with the blanket was a total home run but this box is far from horrible! I went to Europe this year and visited a Missoni boutique so I am thrilled to have that candle at a heavily discounted price. Remember when Missoni and Target partnered? Everything was sold out in seconds! The Glass storage box is adorable and will be an awesome addition to my home. The frame is a bit of a dud for me but I am so sure it will look very beautiful in person, and having just gotten married, I’d love to have a high end frame. The gourmet hot chocolate is from a chef in NY with an amazing story. Lancer is an amazing brand and the cream can be used on any skin type without causing blemishes! The clutch is absolutely adorable and a cult brand! The Chantecaille brand is super high end and they use the most amazing pure/natural ingredients, they even use skin care labs in Switzerland! Do I like the last NM box better? Yes! But this box is still an amazing deal! They should have thrown in something cozy and a jewelry item!

I think a lot of us bought this box sight unseen for the simple reason that last years box was so awesome. (I didn’t discover the joy of subscription boxes until last Spring, so I missed out on the 2013 PS NM box. However, I did read the review and SOOOO want that darn throw!) What we didn’t take into account is the possibility that the box would be completely different- not home themed at all. This year, they went with a box of high end , well, stuff. I’ll agree that the curation is off since we just got a candle and frame in the regular October PS box, BUT there is a TON of gift potential in this box. I will definitely gift the candle and hot cocoa. The mascara and face cream will go into my Mom’s gift. I am definitely keeping the mirror box and gloss for me- maybe the frame too! And as for the clutch, well, that will be up for swap for any ladies interested!

So, I actually went to the NM store tonight, because I’m too excited and cannot wait till next week to receive it. The boxes are there, about 4. Do not have the items display, but the info card is there. The black box is a little smaller than last year box, and the sticker seal is not torn. I can’t even sneak in a peek, 🙁 I am pretty sad that I can only see the box but not the content (my husband is with me at that time, and he finds the whole thing amusing!! He said we drove all the way down here, and all you get to see is the box. Ha! ) I did go through the card, and the pictures looks better on paper than online (if that make sense). I am still excited, and can’t wait to receive it.

Browsing the rest of NM store, I saw the GWP set, and the rest of the holiday items, including last year chocolate snack. All I can say is that NM items are exquisite. It is simple indulgence even for the most basic items.

On another note, saw a DG owl dress retails for $4995. I will not buy it, but would sure love to try it!

And oh, if you’re going retail shopping, Nordstrom has ladies shoes sales begins today. Bought a pair of TOMS for half price.

As a heavy Neiman marcus shopper I am almost sure if you took the box to the store with no receipt they will take it from you. Give you a store credit. I have never had a problem giving them anything back even without a receipt.

I agree that this box is poorly curated and disappointing. But I am shocked but all the comments from people who feel entitled to a refund! Their policy states pretty clearly that it’s a final sale. The value they promised is there. Of course MOST people wouldn’t pay $88 for a candle, but people who shop at NM *do* and that’s kind of NM’s thing…!? NM sells luxury (read: $$) stuff. So I guess I don’t understand why people are demanding a refund. PS/NM didn’t lie or mislead anyone. If you bought the box before the spoilers were released, that’s a risk you chose to take. The items aren’t defective (and if they turn out to be when you actually receive them, well… that’s a different story). So yeah. I get disappointed. But where is this rage and entitlement coming from?

Also, maybe when you see the items in person… they’ll be nicer than you thought? Or at least gift-worthy? 🙂

I don’t believe I’m entitled to a refund and it does clearly state on the FAQ – buyer beware. It’s ok to be disappointed, when I suggested Liz contact them, it wasn’t for a refund. I thought maybe, sending a link to the comments on her blog would be a way to communicate the sentiment of the majority to someone one other than front-line customer service. Looks like across many blogs there are several disappointed buyers. The standard response to all being (we know you’ll love it). I think those must be auto generated.

Neiman Marcus is brand people trust and there are very few sites that do not allow for an order to be canceled. Pop Sugar does allow subscriptions to be canceled so its not out of the question to request it.
But we were kind of dumb and now that’s been vented so we can look forward to swapping with each other, I guess. Is anyone interested in the blemish cream? Not sure what the heck I’d do with it anyway.
