Kiwi Crate Review & Coupon Code – September 2014 Box

Kiwi Crate is a monthly craft, activity and learning subscription box for kids. I've tried a few kid craft subscription boxes (there are a lot of great ones), and I think Kiwi Crate is one of the best, if not the best.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

And this month they included a fold out family crest mini-project.

The first project this month is My Medieval Castle. The key on the bottom of this sheet lets you know how much grown up involvement is needed, and how messy the project may be!

Here are all the supplies to build the castle.

And inside the project guide there is a picture of what the finished project will look like, and steps to complete the project:

I'm pretty impressed by the materials included with this castle activity. The castle pieces have some weight to them, and I think should last a while.

Kiwi Crate Review & Coupon Code – September 2014 Catapult

The second project this month is My Launching Catapult.

Verdict: I am so impressed with every aspect of this box. The materials for the crafts are good quality, the instructions are detailed and helpful, and the activity Explore book is another great tool all in itself. I think this box would make a great gift for any kid. (I love giving it to my cousin each month!).

Now I need to try out the other new subscriptions in the Kiwi Crate family: Koala Crate, Tinker Crate and Doodle Crate!

Do you subscribe to Kiwi Crate? What do you think of this subscription?

Geez, looking at my comment just now it seems like it’s a big run-on sentence or a grammar mess. I don’t know. It’s been a long day. Long comment short, I had just wondered if you and Anna were one in the same & then I saw your comment. Lol

KreationKrate is shipping their first children’s box this month. It is called Kreation Krate Kind Kids and the idea is that there is one project with another materials to duplicate it 3-6 times to gift to others. There is a special for the first month $5.00 with the coupon KINDKIDS which expires October 28.

I enjoy my KreationKrate boxes. There is a craft for me to do to keep for myself and then there is also a kind craft that I gift to others. My 6 year old enjoys helping me with the kind crafts and gifting them so I decided to give the children’s box a try.

Actually…we love Kiwi Crate, but this was not our favorite. The activities LOOK great, but we found the materials substandard to their usual awesomeness. The castle pieces wouldn’t stay up (I bet they’re glued in the photo) and they kept drooping and falling down. The cardboard they used was too thin in some places and so it didn’t “fit” together. The catapult glue wasn’t strong enough to hold it and so only worked maybe once and never again. We tried to glue it together ourselves, but the kids were bummed. However, this month’s stuffed animal horse was a BIG hit.

I would suggest that Kiwi Crate switch from those foam “glue” pieces which do not work to glue dots, which are very effective.

Did you contact Kiwi Crate? I checked our castle which is solid. The reason I am asking is because they sent an email saying that the box was delayed because something was not up to their standards. Maybe it slipped pass them??? We used craft glue for the catapult.

I also received the Thanksgiving turkey name card kit today. I should had also ordered the turkey game which is now sold out.

I received two of each in my box for both of my daughters and both of our castles were solid too. Additionally, we’ve already received the box after this one (it’s cowboy themed – stick horses and cow bean bags) and the Castles & Catapults feels higher quality. The stick horses were fun for about 15 minutes until they were destroyed, mostly that the heads fell off and then wouldn’t stay attached. I love Kiwi crate though and my daughters love the crafts and the different things to color on from the magazine that they include to the box itself.

The pictures are killing me although I understand why there are no pictures. My son said this is the best one ever!!! From the eyes of a 6 year old – This is an amazing castle that when is fully built with towers and flags stands about a foot or more high. It is sturdy enough to survive dragon (kitten) attacks. The catapult is a lot of fun to put together and actually can knock stuff down. It really works especially on the people that come with the crate. It’s also fun to use on other things when mom is not looking. It’s the best catapult ever!

Maybe you can have fun with your subscribers by having a photo contest and select the best completed project to include in the blog post for the October review. Subscribers have received the next box last week which is a wild west theme so if you wanted to do it for that box there is time. I have to say as a mom it is hard for me to determine the final product from the review despite the pictures from the card.

I totally understand – I think we need a mom reviewer to help on the site. (If anyone is interested send me an email!). I also like the idea of the photo contest too!
