Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – October 2014 Box

Julep Maven is a monthly nail polish and beauty subscription box. They make all their own products, so subscribers get a good value each month – over $40 retail worth of product for $24.99 a month. (Julep recently raised their prices, but apparently there will be more customization too. Current subscribers will keep the $19.99 rate).

And, if you sign up for 3-months up front, you also get the $19.99 rate!

Each month Julep releases a new collection on the 20th, and you can decide which box you want, you can upgrade to the entire collection, or you can skip that month. (They recently changed their skip policy – If you’re a new subscriber, you earn a skip every 6 months).

This month I decided to go with the Bombshell box.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – October 2014 First Look

This month's theme is Black Magic - I may just love fall the most, but I think Julep's collections are the best in October, November and December!

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – October 2014 Mask

Julep Night Shift Sleeping Mask - Value $24? (I couldn't find this mask on the site yet, so I'm estimating value).

I've tried a lot of masks thanks to subscription boxes, but I think this is my first overnight mask! You put it on clean skin (serum and moisturizer before are OK - just no makeup), then you leave it on overnight and rinse it off in the morning. It tried it out on my hand, and it goes on like a thick cream. It doesn't really dry like a typical 10-30 minute mask, so you have to put on a pretty thin layer and massage it in. (Which kind of makes it seem like a moisture cream). The finish is a little sticky too, but it turned to a smoother matte finish after about 10-15 minutes.

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – October 2014 Nail Polish

Julep Nail Color in Nancy - Retail Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Margarita - Retail Value $14

It was hard to pick a box this month - I loved all the colors! I'm really happy with both of these colors though - they work for Halloween and fall in general.

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – October 2014 Candy

The bonus item this month was candy corn (I always appreciate that Julep includes an ingredient list). There was also a coupon code for 30% off your next Julep order: DROP30.

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – October 2014 Mascara

And this month they included a spoiler for November in the box - the beauty item will be a new mascara. They're launching two new formulas. I wasn't too crazy about their mascara formula from about 2 years ago, but I'll definitely give these a go!

Verdict: I'm very happy with my Julep Maven nail polish colors this month, and somewhat skeptical of the overnight mask. What nail colors did you get this month? Have you tried the overnight mask yet?

Hi, could you tell me what are the dimensions of the box and the usual weight, if possible? Thank you! xx

I polished my nails with Marla from my maven box yesterday. I used a base coat and a top coat and they are already chipping today. Grr. I think it’s time to cancel julep. On another note, I subscribed to the MSA box and I would like to see a good top/base coat in the box.

Would be interested in hearing opinions on top coats. Right now I am using Seche Vite, which dries quickly and is very strong, but is also full of toluene. It has made my Julep Leah last for 3 days with only two small chips. May not be able to subscribe to the MSA box for financial reasons, but could always pick up a top coat with an Ulta coupon.

Oh man, I tried their previous mascara as well. I loved the length and volume it gave, but the “volumizing fibers” in it flaked into my eyes EVERY.DAY. not a fan. If those are gone, I will definitely give next month’s box a shot 🙂

Thank you for all the reviews! You’ve helped me decide on many subscriptions 🙂

I tried to cancel well before the cutoff date and they charged me and sent another box anyway. I have tried to cancel again, so hopefully this time it will ‘take’. I was on the 2 polish 1 beauty product box. This month I only got 2 polish and the candy corn. No beauty product.

I cancelled because I find their polish chips quickly, it seems to me, compared to the other polishes I like (China Glaze, Opi, etc.).

I too tried canceling before the deadline without success (every time I called, I got voice mail and no one called me back). I finally e-mailed them. Hopefully it takes and I won’t be charged next month. I don’t think they listen very well to my preferences. I haven’t been happy with the colors they give me.

Don’t e-mail. Call. I have called twice in the last week. First time I got through after only 5 minutes on hold. Today, I was only on hold for 15 seconds. (Both times, it was 6-6:30 Eastern time and I pressed “3” for billing.)

Since I am not sure which is which, I like the purple nail polish.

How long can I use the coupon code?

I customized my box and received it in the normal timeframe for me. I’ve been having a horrible time with extra dry skin, so I didn’t want to add anything new to my routine till I figure out the problem.

I got Nancy, a silvery gray micro glitter, Margarita, a dark purple creme, and Dana, a blacklight reactive opal white. I really like them all.

Apparently I canceled too late and they sent me my selected box anyway (Dark Arts, a black latex and two glitters plus some chevron nail decals and the oxygen performance top coat). I have to hound them to refund me the remainder of the charge next week (they charged me for three months but canceled me after sending one month). But I didn’t have any trouble getting through on the phone last week so I have hopes this will get straightened out. Now I need to focus on USING all the polish I’ve accumulated in the past year!

I didn’t even get shipping info for my box yet!. But I did customize it, maybe that takes longer?

Tried the mask last night and I love it?

I got the Classic with a Twist box; Logan, a very deep purple and DeAnn, a burgundy shade. I was really hoping for a maroon shade and DeAnn looked like that on the screen but in person its a bit more magenta toned than I hoped. Putting it next to Lupita and Eva they all almost look the same. I saw a new Essie shade at Target that looked exactly like the shade of maroon I wanted. Logan almost looks black at first but when you move it around you can see the purplish tone.

I tried the mask on last night, in some spots I don’t feel anything and in others I feel just a tiny bit but I think it can wait to wash off when I get in the shower.
