Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – October 2014 Box

Birchbox Man is a monthly grooming and lifestyle subscription box for men. Their lifestyle items tend to be formal (think ties, cufflinks, etc), so keep that in mind when subscribing!

This month Birchbox Man collaborated with the FXX show The League.

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – October 2014 Info

Each box comes with a card that details each item included in your box for that month.

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – October 2014 Tool

True Utility Framework Mini – Value $17.99

My husband was happy with this being his lifestyle item of the box this month. It’s pretty well designed too: “This open-framed multitool includes a bottle opener, a can opener, a knife, a saw, an awl, a file, three screwdrivers (Phillips and two sizes of flat-head), and spring-assisted needle-nosed pliers, which double as wire cutters.”

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – October 2014 Ursa

Ursa Major Face Balm – Bonus Samples Value $2

Vasanti Detox Nutrient-Rich Purifying Facial Cleanser – 20 ml Value $3.20

Ursa Major is one of my favorite men’s natural skincare brands, so I’m always happy to see it in a box even if the samples are tiny. (The card lists these samples as bonus).

And I’ve tried the Vasanti exfoliator before and really liked it, so I’m guessing this facial cleanser will be great too.

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – October 2014 Basics

das boom industries Everything Wash – 1 oz Value $3

Basics For Men by Beckman Ultimate Tough Skin Relief – .25 oz Value $.50

Both of these samples smell good and I know they will get used. The Ultimate Tough Skin Relief is sort of a mix between a lotion and a balm – and it absorbs quickly into the skin with a matte finish.

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – October 2014 Cologne

Atelier Cologne – Sample Value $2

Cologne/Perfume samples are never popular in subscription boxes for us, but at least with Birchbox you can request to minimize how many you receive each year in your profile.

Verdict: This month’s box has a value of about $29. It’s on the lower end of values for Birchbox Man, but the True Utility tool is a win for us, and the other samples will be used, so we definitely got our money’s worth. (Plus I’ll review all these items on Birchbox to earn 60 points ($6 to use in the Birchbox shop).

What did you get from Birchbox Man this month?

  1. I subscribed in hopes to get the utilities tool.. alas… got a cotton boxers in light blue! (it’s reviewed on my blog). My boyfriend would not know what to do with this… I also got shave cream, which wouldn’t be used either. Definitely disappointing this month. Anyone wants those?

    • I looked at your blog. I miss the New England area and Franconia Notch. I signed up for New England Sack which is having their first box ship in time for Thanksgiving because I miss it that much.

      • Thank you Anna, this was my first time in that part of the country – and I have never seen such beauty! White Mountains were a bit past its peak this week, but the lower elevation (around Franconia Notch) was perfect and Green Mountains further west was just brilliant. I may post more photos when I have more time.

As to the boxers out of BB Man, I found a swap partner who adapted them off Liz’s swap list, thank goodness! I am taking a break from Birchbox Man for a bit. I am curious what you will get in NE box – let us know if you get a chance 🙂

        • It will be a while, but I will let you know. I’m glad that it worked out on swap.

My 15 year old son has enjoyed his lifestyle items from Birchbox. He received a handkerchief and tie clip in his first (September) box which he is giving to daddy as a present. He loves the utility tool (October) and uses it often. BB offered PYS for the Lifestyle item for November which he selected the socks. He received them in the BE mens limited edition and loved them.

  2. My box this month (which I reviewed on my blog as well) was almost completely different from this one! The utility tool would have been a better lifestyle item than the whiskey stones I got. I was a fan of the Das Boom gel, but the best thing I got was a completely unexpected tube of Chipotle paste!

  3. Birchbox man just never seems like its worth it. The samples are so tiny and the lifestyle item makes up 80% of the cost and its usually hit or miss.

  4. Is the box that the tool came in a dry box? It looks like one but it wasn’t mentioned so I wasn’t sure :o)

  5. This box is for my 15 year old son. He loves the True Utility Framework Mini and has been using it on various things. The other items that he received are Baxter of California Super Close Shave Formula, das boom industries body wash, Jack Black industrial strength hand healer, and Lab Series Age Rescue & Water Charged Gel Cream which he will be giving to Dad. He felt it was a great box.

  6. My boyfriend and I are both gigantic fans of The League, and I was going to buy this box for him. I’m happy I didn’t, there’s nothing in here related to the show!

    • That’s what I was going to write! I have seen every episode probably twice & nothing in here is remotely related to the show. How weird they would call this a collaboration.

  7. My husband also got the tool but he doesn’t know it yet! He wanted me to stop getting him boxes because of the samples and such, which I say he use to use all the time so I don’t know where his thinking is! So I decided to pretend when the boxes come that they are for me and I don’t open in front of him. I am saving all samples and things like tools and lifestyle stuff for his birthday and Christmas stocking stuffers! He loved the items most months, but it was the few months when the items weren’t great that he decided he didn’t want the boxes, so I decided the stuff I know he won’t like will be small gifts for others or just give them away!

  8. Wow, we got a great BB Man box this month. Got a HUGE chili paste bottle, whiskey stones, the cologne sample, the das boom (which my bf is obsessed with! sadly, they don’t have the full size in that scent on the site :(), a hand lotion, and shave cream. Successful past two months over here.

    • We got the same box as you. The chili paste will be used, but it was a weird thing to receive.
