Remote Control Subscription Box Review – September

RC Subscription Box is a new monthly subscription box from HobbyTron that sends you a new Remote Controlled Helicopter, Car, Truck etc. each month.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: Remote Control Subscription Box

The Cost: $29.95 (less with 6 or 12 month plans)

BONUS: If you sign up for the monthly plan you’ll get a bonus Phantom RC Helicopter with your first shipment

(FYI – regular HobbyTron coupons don’t work on subscriptions).

The Products: $60 worth of remote control items each month. (Helicopters, trucks, cars etc).

Remote Control Subscription Box Review – September 2014 Copter

World Tech Toys Sky Messenger - MSRP $89.95,  On Amazon for $34.95

Looking at reviews, it seems like this helicopter can have issues holding charge. We haven't tried it yet, but now I'm a little skeptical. (It is pretty cool that you can customize the text it displays though).

Verdict: This month's value is not as good as last month's. (I definitely recommend at least trying this service for at least a month since you get a bonus copter with your first box). We'll probably try one more month and see if we get a higher value item. (And hopefully a non-copter. A little variety please!)

Have you tried the Remote Control Subscription Box? What do you think of it?

It does say there is a 3 cycle minimum. It is at the bottom of the page where you pick which subscription you want.

If you cancel before 3 months you have to pay back the cost of the “free” helicopter, so it’s not really cancel anytime. More like you can cancel anytime after 3 months is up. I don’t remember seeing this disclaimer when I signed up in August but it’s definitely part of the deal now 🙂

If they didn’t have this term in the contract when you entered into it, they can’t add it later. This is a basic principle of contract law.

If they try to say it applies retroactively to you, I would really like to see how they justify this.

This lawyer 100% agrees. There’s no such thing as a retroactively applicable contract term. It’s either in the terms of sale or it’s not. If it wasn’t there when the contract was executed (i.e., sale made), it isn’t legally enforceable. That said, I’ve seen several subs try this in the last few years. When I see complaints like that, I don’t do business with the company. Period.

Thanks for letting me know – I didn’t see that when I signed up in August either!
