Nerd Block Subscription Box Review – September

Nerd Block is a monthly subscription box for geeks and gamers. This box typically includes at least a figurine or two, and always a new exclusive shirt. Nerd Block recently introduced Arcade Block, (I'll have the review up of the first box hopefully soon!), so this box is now known as Nerd Block Classic. Each month will have a different theme. (October's box is curated by Kevin Smith and the theme is Marvel vs. DC!)

Each box comes with a card detailing each of the items included.

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review – September 2014 Tee

Sounds of the Galaxy T-Shirt - Value $18?

This is the custom t-shirt made for subscribers this month. My husband loved Guardians of the Galaxy, so this was a hit!

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review – September 2014 Figures

Scribblenauts Unmasked - Value $10

Mega Bloks Marvel Series 3 - Value $7

Blind box items are pretty common in Nerd Blocks - great if you want to swap and try to get the whole set! (I think we'll be swapping these.

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review – September 2014 Turtles

Boxos Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Papercraft Playset - Value $20

My husband loves TMNT, but I don't think he wants to put this set together. It will make for a great gift or swap item though!

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review – September 2014 Toys

Giant Microbes STD Plush - Value $12

Nerd Block Stress Relief Brain Toy - Value $2?

Well, I was a little surprised that they sent plush STD toys in this box because I'm pretty sure these boxes are enjoyed by both adults and kids? Oh well - another dog toy!

Verdict: This box has a great value - about $70 - but besides the t-shirt, it wasn't a huge hit with us. That's usually the case with both Nerd Block and Loot Crate - depending on what brands/characters they feature really depends on how much you like the box. It's definitely worth the gamble for us though - and we just swap the rest for FUNKO items!

What did you think of the September Nerd Block?

My friend gets this box and her (nearly two) year old son loves the STD plush…

The shirt was great, and I liked the Scribblenaut figure… until I touched it and it broke into 10 pieces. While I get it, I was really let down by the paper craft set. The promise of an awesome old-school turtles item is what hooked me on finally singing up and now… just dam. That was pretty much a total bummer dude 🙁

I got this for my 16 year old brother this month after enjoying the Horror Block for myself and the Junior Girls Block for my 8 year old niece in July and August. I was not impressed with this one compared to the other two blocks but with October’s box including Kevin Smith’s picks and the Marvel vs. DC theme I’m confident I’ll like it much more. All in all, it’s still a great value and so much fun to open. I don’t think I’ll be cancelling the Nerd Block this year, despite being underwhelmed by my first one.

I thought the plushie was a Groot head at first. Nope, just chlamydia…

It definitely created interesting situations. Our English Shepherd was waiting for the plush so I said to my teen, “Give the Gonorrhea to the dog.” It sounds wrong. We knew it was coming because of the emails, but still don’t quite get it. We gave the brain cell to the other dog. See, it sounds strange although we had a few silly moments over it with the doggies.

The only thing my 15 year old son liked was the shirt. The dogs enjoyed receiving their new toys (STD & brain cell from NB Jr) which they felt should be theirs anyways. I was going to cancel, but how can I cancel a Marvel vs DC box?

The STD had a label that read something along the lines intended for over 12 or something like that.

Now there is no way I can cancel NerdBlock in October. It will have a DeadPool figurine.

Is it weird that I really want that STD (so to speak)? The public health nerd in me is coming out….

Me too. I got syphilis and want them all. So funny. Yeah they’ll probably end up as pet toys but want to get more. The site has alot. Chicken pox is pretty funny. Truly nerdy.
