New Quarterly Curators!

Quarterly has added 3 new curators to their lineup: Eva Scrivo, digg, and Arianna Huffington! Are you going to try out any of the newest boxes? (I signed up for Arianna Huffington, and I'm curious about Eva Scrivo's beauty box, though the $100 price tag is making me hesitate!) If there's a Quarterly box you'd like to see reviewed let me know!

Also use coupon code JUL5OFF to save $5 off any subscription! (Also try UJGQ10OFF FIRSTBOX10 and PIG5OFF)

Arianna Huffington invoiced today. Big question is which box will be the first to arrive? MSA or Arianna Huffington?

I checked with Quarterly on the Arianna Huffington box. It will be shipping on the 12th. I saw the teaser on Facebook and am not sure what to make of it. I hope it is a good box. As of now I kept 2 Quarterly boxes and returned 2 Quarterly boxes.

Was everyone who signed up right away able to keep the Arianna Huffington sub for $50.00? I signed up for the box when it was $50.00, cancelled, signed back up with a $10.00 code making it $90.00, cancelled, and now am paying the full $100.00. I keep going back and forth on whether to cancel. It should be good. I’m hoping she’ll include one of her books. I haven’t read any, but I think it will fit in with her theme.

Also Kathy Younger is no longer listed as a curator:( It would be nice if Quarterly did spoilers because I love your review on her first box (which I would had purchased if I knew it would be like that) and wanting to sign up for her second box. I check their Facebook and Twitter a couple times of week to see if there are teaser/spoilers. It takes less than a minute to check those pages, but I do wish they were more proactive in it. I think it would also cut down on returns.

I got emails from Quarterly yesterday that both my Patti Stanger and Kath Younger subscriptions are ending. I think they are trying to streamline their process and concentrate more on their most popular (highest number of subscribers) boxes.

I subscribed to Arianna Huffington too – I wish they did a full spoiler instead of just a teaser!

The only code of the above three that seems to be working is FIRSTBOX10. Does anyone have another one? Thx.

I’m sending back the 1000 Places box. It’s not what I expected at all. I received the following:

1. “Meet Me in Paris” print from Katie Daisy. It is unsigned although the print on her website shows it signed. It’s an 8″ X 10″ inkjet print of her watercolor on white cardstock. The website shows it being $18 with a discount available for purchasing in bulk which brings it down to $15 per print.

2. Pre de Provence honey almond soap – $7.99 on Amazon

3. Make A City: Paris Edition – Postcards that you cut apart and build the 5 most recognized icons of Paris – $12.00.

4. Stainless Steel Cheese Knife – I tried to like it, but it is really ugly. $3-4.

5. The Food Lover Guide to Paris with sticky notes. It’s unclear if it’s the author’s notes or Patrica Schultz. $10.72 on Amazon. I’m sure there is value in the sticky notes.

Plus the 20% off at SCOTTEVEST and a Travel & Leisure Magazine which covers London Hotels, China, Spain, and British Colombia.

I noticed Quarterly has posted more spoilers on Facebook from the curators. I think this will be helpful in the future.

I didn’t want to post immediately after receiving the box, but give it a few days, to see if I feel differently after. What I did is found a nice white cardboard picture frame, and frame the print. It’s sitting nicely in the bedroom.
I flipped the book over the weekend, and found that there are sections to cheese, chocolate, and farmers market, and I was flipping pages. I would have not pick up the book at the bookstore, or not even sure when I go to Paris, but I like to have this around for just in case, or I can send this to my sister in London..
The post cards, print and cheese knife, they’re ok, but not wow. I’m a bar soap person, so that will go into my soap stash.
Overall, I’m not super disappointed, but not wow either. I think we have different expectation when it comes to destination curation. I cancel my next box, but will keep an eye out for future, see if it stays the same or change.

I’m glad that you like it:) I’m keeping an eye on it too for the future.

I was invoiced today for Quarterly Toys and Collectibles. I saw CreativeBug shipped too. I hope someone posts about the contents in CreativeBug and the Hiltha box.

Jenn D

I’m sending mine back too. They were very responsive as you said with sending the UPS return label.

It was a cute box except for the cheapie looking cheese knife, but Paris is so much more than this. Aside from the soap, it didn’t feel like the essence of Paris was captured.

I got the same thing and I am upset. I can’t believe this is what I got for a Paris box. Waiting on Hitla’s box now. At this point I am for sure getting Nina’s box and MSA. The others don’t seem to be worth it and its very upsetting.

Quarterly sent me the prepaid UPS label to send the package back. Very easy. I know some people liked this box, but it’s not for me.

PA Anna

I was invoiced for 1000 Places this afternoon. I’m guessing the package will be arriving around August 14th for me since I am on the other side of the country. Looking forward to the Paris theme box and how that compares to the Escape Monthly Paris theme box that will be arriving around the same time.

UJG coupon is no longer active. Looks like Quarterly caught on to what everyone’s doing. Any other coupon codes out there? I have been trying to find some.

I’m so excited to get your box, Liz! Will there be any spoilers?

After TravelBox’s horrible July box (pretty much tossed in old stuff from the past five boxes), I cancelled it, although in the bigger picture, I think it’s going out of business anyway; besides dumping old stock, their facebook page is gone now…

ANYWAY, since cancelling that, the week before last, when I was able to stack four codes for $30 off, I decided to try subscribing to Hitha on the Go’s quarterly box since it was going to be only $20. She’s promised three items in her 2nd box with a retail value of $100. The theme of this box will be surviving long flights so I am looking forward to it!

How do you get free shipping? It’s charging me $8 for shipping. I was able to stack the 3 codes for $25 off but would love to get free shipping too 🙂

Ashley Wasnick

I haven’t seen a code for shipping 🙁

You have to subscribe instead of just purchasing one box.

Thx! I just figured that one out & was coming back to post that! 🙂

Hi Liz,
Will you be releasing any spoilers for your box? Any idea how many items you’ll include?

I’m currently signed up for yours, Nina’s and Eva Scrivos. I was browsing the quarterly site and it seems like you get better bang for your buck on the most expensive boxes. Nina’s recent box was my first box and even though skit of people hated it, their were enough items I liked that made it worth my 100. But it seems with the 50 dollar boxes there’s only a few items so if you hate it, you feel ripped off. I know that won’t be the case with your box.. I can’t wait for it 🙂

A lot…. Not skit… Gurr auto correct lol

How do you add more than one coupon code.
I’m trying to sign up and I’ve only been able to apply one code. Can someone tell me how to stack them?

Thanks

Liz- I got your box and I’m super excited. I was able to stack the codes. Can’ wait for fall now. I love surprises so It will be nice to have this to look forward to.

Chris

I was able to stack codes and signed up as well. So excited! Thank you! 🙂

how do you stack coupon codes ? TY.

Tara

It worked! I was able to stack three codes (wouldn’t let me use the pig one) and I got your first box for $25! So excited to see what you send out.

Angelica

How did you do it? I can’t seem to figure it out! I am getting frustrated with it.

…just click “back” under “submit” after you enter each promo code… then finally “submit”

Angelica

Liz, I am very interested in your box. I believe you know more than anyone what works and what doesn’t. Can you tell us more about what your box may have in it and who would benefit the most from it?

If you unsubscribe and then try to use the JUL5OFF code later instead for another box, it will not work. be careful 🙂

I was able to use one of the $10.00 codes for Creative Bug. It was hard to chose between that and No More Dirty Looks. I have an idea what may be coming for Creative Bug and haven’t worked in that medium in a long time. Now if they delay it and it ends up being too close to when 1000 Places will be charged, I will have to cancel it. I don’t have a lot of faith that 1000 Places will ship in August, but maybe this will be the month.

PA Anna

No CreativeBug for me. Escape Monthly has a Best of Box which interests me more. I hope someone posts what comes in the Creative Bug box. I’m curious to see if it is worth the $50.00. No more $10.00 code on my account 🙁

Deareux

I was the one on MakeupTalk who was able to use all of those coupon codes to stack up and save $30 off of my NG box. They are all one time use only, except for the firstbox10 code. So I recommend stacking on a higher cost box if there’s one you’re interested in.

PA Anna

That is impressive.

All three boxes look pretty cool, and I might have to try all three.

I’d like to get a feel for the Arianna Huffington box before subscribing. While I was on Quarterly’s site I treated myself to a Creative Bug box and managed to stack codes for $20 off. Thanks for the tip!!
