Tyler Florence Fancy Box Subscription Review - May 2014 Info

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included.

Tyler Florence Fancy Box Subscription Review - May 2014 Cheese

Fish & Omelet Turner - Value $12

Cheese Paper - Value $9

As the no-dairy person in our house I had no idea cheese paper existed, but my husband will use it!

Tyler Florence Fancy Box Subscription Review - May 2014 Grinder

Cherry/Olive Pitter - Value $15

Fresh Herb Mill - Value $20

This cherry pitter is one of those items I would put away in a kitchen drawer and probably never use - I think I'll swap it instead!

Tyler Florence Fancy Box Subscription Review - May 2014 Spoon

Cultures for Health San Francisco Sourdough Starter - Value $13

Avocado Spoon - Value $10

I think I may have received a different avocado tool from an earlier Tyler Florence box? EIther way I'll use this spoon too!

Verdict: This box has a retail value of about $79. I know a lot of these items are great for summer, but I hope the June box really has a great summer theme. I'll use most of these items and swap/gift the rest, so I'm pleased with the box, it just isn't my favorite.

What do you think of the May Tyler Florence Fancy Box?

A note in the July 2014 Tyler Florence box says this will be the end of his Fancy boxes. It”s a drink box and I am not too thrilled. The note suggests trying other boxes from Fancy.

I love this box! I didn’t believe that using that spoon would be better then my method, but that spoon ROCKS! I have been wanting a cherry pitter because I LOVE cherries, so that is going to be used. The sourdough was ok, I doubt I will use it. I do wish that we got one item from his food line, but I’m ok with kitchen items that makes my life easier. They’re not exciting, but this is why I subscribed, to find gadgets that I would know had not existed or needed.

I signed up for Coco Rocha instead, which was a mistake. I have yet to receive a box although I paid two months ago. Plus I would use ALMOST all these things ago. Two days I was wishing for a cherry pitter, I love spatulas, avocado and cheese so this would have been a big win for me! Guess I will keep my eyes peeled on the swap boards 🙂

The Coco Fancy box was one of the worst subs I have ever tried in terms of shipping delays, bad value, and bad customer service. It’s the reason I don’t sub to ANY of the Fancy subs any more.

It seems like Tyler Florence would do something jazzier than just a bunch of utensils.

I agree that I love looking at reviews for this box! But sometimes I think it rocks and want everything, and then other times its kinda ugh. I just put the items I love on my Amazon wish list lol

I didn’t love this box. The individual items were cool on the surface, but I’ll just never use them. I don’t buy enough fancy cheeses to use cheese paper, and I already have a million spatulas, so one just for fish doesn’t thrill me. And the sourdough starter, after reading the instructions, sounds like so much work! I’d rather just bake normal bread with normal yeast and be done with it. 🙂 I guess I’ve learned I’m not adventurous enough a cook for this box! I cancelled after receiving mine. Oh well.

I also cancelled after receiving this box. It was my second box, and last months box was so-so. I really thought this sub would be more exciting. I joined after seeing the Italian night box a few months back. I might again if they offered a better price but it’s not worth the regular price for me.

Sneaky Burrito

You don’t even need a special starter to make sourdough. Just take equal amounts of flour and water and mix them together. Leave them in a covered container on the counter. Add equal amounts of flour and water each day and stir. If the container gets too full, remove some of the contents. Works especially well with rye but has worked with pretty much any flour type I’ve tried. Takes a couple of days to a week. Then just substitute the starter for part of your flour and liquid in your bread recipe.

Doesn’t rise so well but I cheat and use a packet of regular yeast to make it rise (just do the sourdough culture for the sourdough flavor).

Sneaky Burrito

I love my cherry pitter and use it all the time. (Because I think spitting pits out is gross. Mine kind of violently ejects the pits from olives, though, although it’s a different brand than the one above.) I’m excited, it’s almost that time of year when there will be fresh cherries in the supermarket.

Sometimes I’m excited by this box and then sometimes I see meat stuff and become less enthusiastic. Guess I could swap it. But I promised no new boxes for awhile.
